  3. Trip Report An evening well spent with some wonderful drivers in a route that was challenging, but then that has to be expected in Sweihan, when day time temperatures reach close to 50 deg. C causing patches of super soft sand. After a quick briefing, we entered the dunes and the entire convoy responded brilliantly with a fast paced action packed drive which involved side slopping, crisscrossing and ridge riding. At one point, someone asked on the Radio that this felt like an Intermediate drive and that was a testament of the quality of drivers and the faith they put on each other. The most important thing about doing fast paced Night drives is to trust the cars in front that if they can do it, so can we. And this can be done only by maintaining the right distance from the car in front. And just as we got ourselves into the massive dunes and bowls, Sweihan once again reminded all of us that this is a serious terrain as patches of powder soft sand resulted in few refusals, stucks and a Check Engine Light. But all of this also brings out camaraderie amongst the drive particpants in the form of good humor and stories while enjoying the cool weather of the night. Excellent driving by all the drive members @Hasan Wahlan @Zed @Karthikeyan Govindarajan @Lakshmi Narasimhan @Xavier Treasurer @Mus_hus78 @Ruan van den Heever @Farouq Owdeh. We had very good support from @GauravSoni in the middle helping out with the refusals till he had the CEL. And of course a big shout out to @Lorenzo Candelpergher for holding the entire convoy together at the back, shoveling, tugging and rerouting as needed. Look forward to catching up with you all very soon for another night drive

  5. @GauravSoni @Farouq Owdeh @Ruan van den Heever @Zed @Mus_hus78 @Xavier Treasurer @Hasan Wahlan @Lakshmi Narasimhan Now, this is what I called a Super Strong FB Convoy. So famous are the Sweihan boys, that we have quite a few drivers coming all the way from Dubai and Sharjah to see what the hype is all about. So here's hoping for another rocking drive in Sweihan 🤞 With the able support of the flying Italian @Lorenzo Candelpergher, I will be more than happy to push the pace and increase the challenge during the drive. See you all at the meeting point tomorrow at 9 PM. Convoy numbering would be announced tomorrow morning.
  6. And with the very strong convoy that we have this weekend, if everything goes well, you will most definitely have a preview of a Fast paced FB+ drive.
  7. Let's wait till tomorrow morning, but most likely you would be in as there are still 3 spots open and the status has been the same since Sunday. So keep your fingers crossed
  8. I don't think uneven wearing would happen in the desert for a couple of reasons : 1. You do less km on sand than on road 2. The traction is much higher on the road than on sand. That's why you can get away with driving with central difflock on sand but not on the road. So most likely you have alignment issues, worn out control arms, etc that would be causing the problem. Your tyre of 245 mm is what I would call the skinny tyres and they can cause a little more fishtailing than broader tyres. When the time comes to change you can try used tyres of bigger width say 255 or 265 mm and see if that makes a difference. Till then you will have to take even better lines to avoid fishtailing
  9. @Goutam what is your tire width? Also is it AT? Both these parameter can play a role in providing better grip

  13. Hi Rizwan, good to have you onboard. Will assign the convoy numbers in the morning.
  14. @Ashok chaturvedi I can now add you for the second drive of the week. Please confirm.
  15. Another thought. Why don't you inflate the tyre to approx 45-50 psi. That might avoid flat spots. For older cars I would not recommend not running it for such long periods as they will create problems when you return. I would prefer the option that Fred has given to let someone start the car and run it once a week.
  16. As per the Trip Lead of your last Absolute Newbie drive, you had to be exited out much earlier and thats the reason why you are joining the Absolute Newbie drive this weekend. Once completed, you are free to join Newbie drives.
  17. @hasan hamadeh you can join Newbie drives only after completing the Absolute Newbie. So I will have to remove the RSVP as this drive is on Thursday night. I can see that you have joined the Absolute Newbie drive on Friday morning.

  20. Farewell @Tero Vallas. It was nice meeting you. Take care and good luck to you and your family.
  21. Convoy 1 : Trip Report After our quick morning greetings, at the break of dawn, Convoy 1 and 2 departed towards the huge bowls and dunes that Shuwaib has to offer. As we started scaling the first set of dunes, we heard the message on the radio that Rob's beast had a nose dive in one of the pockets. The impact seemed to have disturbed all the sensors along with a bit of bumper damage. After resetting the computer the sensors seemed to have been working properly as he was driving for next hour or so at a brisk pace through all the bowls and hills. As we reached approx the half way mark to Iftar Bowl, we reached a massive bowl which was begging to be ridden on. With the fantastic set of drivers and cars I took the adventurous route of exiting the bowl by crisscrossing on the top of the dune on to the other side. As all the cars were making it through, it brought a smile to my face till we saw Rob's car getting stuck on the slip face. It took a while for us to realise that his car had stalled and after a few moments of stalling the side airbags were deployed. It was the first time I have seen the side airbags getting deployed in a Japanese car. Probably the fact that it was a US Spec car could explain the cause. It again showed that regardless of the brand or origin of the car, it's best that the side airbags are always deactivated especially on higher level drives. With the seat belt tensioner also gone it was felt best that we exited Rob. It was a day where things didn't go exactly as per plan. As the weather was still bearable, the entire convoy felt that we could spend another hour in the desert. So we reentered at Super Bowl and we spent the next hour of one of the most intense fast paced drives that I have been a part of. As I kept pushing the pace, climbing higher the convoy responded beautifully in perfect sync. Among the chaos of multiple convoys in that area we found an opening that provided a smooth momentum to the top of both Super Bowl and later Iftar Bowl. It felt like all the other convoys had come to a standstill while our convoy was making an attempt. Brilliant driving by everyone @Rizwanm2 @Gok Krish @Goutam @Rob H @Hisham Masaad @Kailas Thank you for participating in this drive which I thoroughly enjoyed. Hope to catch up with you guys soon on another fast paced IM drive. Till then take care.
