  1. To start off the New Year, I would like to invite all Fewbies and above to explore the beautiful area of Murquab - Lisaili. This area has a nice mix of medium tall dunes and smaller technical areas that will definitely keep you on your toes. We will explore and alternate between side sloping and basic ridge crossing techniques, and enjoy whatever this area has to offer. Depending on the pace and progress we will either head off towards the Maktoum Solar area or Qudra Lakes. This drive is for Fewbie and above level only. Please check if you have all required tools and gear on board as per your assigned drive level. When: 03 January 2020, Friday Meeting time: 07:00 AM, the convoy will move sharply at 07:15 AM Where: First Emarat Petrol Station after outlet mall on Dubai - Al Ain road GPS Coordinate: https://goo.gl/maps/7pRg8Lb1N3s Level of drive: Fewbie and above Type of Car: Any proper 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 10 inches of ground clearance. Plan: Drive and enjoy until about 11:45 AM, with some small breaks in between to have breakfast and snacks. What to bring along: Some snacks, plenty of water - whatever you like with little extra to share, smiles, stories, enthusiasm and willingness to learn. Approximate finish time: 11:45 AM
  2. If you have an old Smartphone lying around the house, you can easily make a dash cam out of it too. I downloaded an app called Smart Dash Cam on IOS which I use to record our drives sometimes. It only starts recording when you are actually moving, and makes videoclips of 2-3 mins each that you can upload to your Google Drive or Dropbox. It can also record on impact. The only negative thing is that I have to remove the phone when the car is parked in the clear sun or high temperature. The problem with the very cheap dash-cams is the so-called 720 or 1080 quality which they like to put on the box, but when using it you will come to see that reading numberplates or more detailed data will be difficult to extract, which then basically makes it almost worthless to use.
  3. Won’t make it guys. But my heart and warmest wishes go out to all of you and hope to see you all in the Arabian Deserts very soon.
  4. Love it ! This definitely fits the direction they are going into.
  5. Thanks for the warm congratulations guys ! Sometimes even I am at a loss of words, so I’ll just say it with a famous theme song to explain what the Carnity family stands for: It's like you're always stuck in second gear When it hasn't been your day, your week, your month, or even your year, but I'll be there for you (When the rain starts to pour) I'll be there for you (Like I've been there before) I'll be there for you ('Cause you're there for me too)
  6. Have a look at all the possible types of Pajeros in China: https://www.chinacarforums.com/forum/showthread.php?p=52112 https://carnewschina.com/2013/11/11/president-xi-jinping-has-a-new-parade-car-in-china/
  7. Now given the fact that every car maker puts slightly different software in their cars to manage the AWD system, I’d love to know which SUV can deal with sand and dunes. I’ve seen some YouTube videos of Subaru Outback and Forester doing good things on beach sand. But probably other brands will have AWD with way too many restrictions that cannot be switched off.
  8. In the case of my 99 Pajero it was the left CV axle that was on its way out and responsible for vibration at around 80kmh.
  9. @Wrangeld Thanks for the nice write-up. Your posts should become our advertisement post for Carnity. You describe the exact feeling i also get when waking up early in the morning and driving to the meetup point. Always looking forward to the next adventure and people to meet. @Srikumar has again treated us with fantastic dunes and when I look at how everyone managed this terrain so well I am fully sure that the guidance, briefings, confidence , and mentorship skills that he applies on every drive is the main reason for this. @Shamil and @Rahimdad did great sweep duties. Thanks for having our backs every time. This will be my last drive for 2019 so I’m currently dusting out and cleaning the little blue one and giving her a bit of rest. I’ll be back in 2020 and I wish all my Carnity friends a warm Christmas and blessed New Year !
  10. Both Steel and Aluminum have their own advantages and disadvantages: No idea what alu rims cost here, and the quality differences they come with. You could have a look at secondhand ones too. Just make sure the bolting pattern fits and go for a rim with a low ET value to achieve that wider stance.
