Asif Hussain has been promoted to Marshal level
Wrangeld replied to Gaurav's topic in Off-Road Club's Announcements
@Asif Hussain congrats for probably the most deserved promotion in Carnity. I hope to join one of your drives soon. -
Big convoy, great drive, excellent learning. @RaYan E @Kailas @Gok Krish @Syed Raza Hussain @Karthik Krishnakumar @Shyam Karat @Mahmoud Asar @Piotr Kolodziej @Nitin Mohan @Yusuf Esaf @Mohamed Abo ElKomsan @Rizwan Waheed Every drive is a learning experience whether you have driven 2 or 200 drives. Today proved that true in spades. A pop out where the whole valve gave way, a deadly pocket needing all our ingenuity and teamwork to get the recovery and proof that the sand is as difficult on the flat as it is on a slope. With 16 cars in the convoy, realisitcally, this was never going to be the drive that covered the most distance, or the fastest. Even within a group of newbies, the level of experience within 2 to 6 drives is quite significant. In the circumstances I think that the whole convoy performed extremely well. Specifically, why? Teamwork was outstanding. I am a big believer in Carnity's view that the better we are as a team, the more effectively we learn. For the pop out, the pocket and all recoveries, teamwork was exceptional. Lessons have been learned and put into practice. We promised practice today, and we did. Crossing from dune to dune, taking slopes confidently, descending without fishtailing, driving through sticky soft sand. Congratulate yourselves. Your confidence was on show for all to see. Watching how dunes were crossed, crests navigated and slopes covered so confidently was a pleasure. Yes, we had some recoveries (including both seniors supporting at one point) and some waiting, but we also saw some beautiful dunes, drove very well, challenged ourselves in technical dunes and started and finished more or less on time. Thanks also for EVERYONE for arriving on time. Also, a special call out to @Foxtrot Oscar @Lorenzo Candelpergher and @Franco Swart for your amazing support. Perhaps it was not totally the relaxed newbie drive you expected, but you did fantastic work with everyone. From my side, this drive will go down in my memory as it was my first independently managed drive as a MARSHAL. So thanks to everyone for allowing me to mark that up as a success. We you soon in the sand.

I think @Barry covered the essentials. Motoring is much more expensive than here, so petrol consumption should be in your thoughts as well as your insurance costs. I used to green lane a lot in the UK. You have to have a proper 4x4 for that. An AWD vehicle will not cut it. That's why I had a dedicated car for off road. The roads in the UK are terrible compared to here. Think carefully about the choice of whether road comfort is your priority. Second consideration is all about maintenance costs. Japanese parts are expensive. German less so. If I went back to the UK I would buy a Suzuki SJ413 (not the Vitara) and a road car. The Suzuki is small but great fun for greenlaning and can be modified.

Dear Qudra Conquerers, Please see the convoy numbering for the drive tomorrow morning. It's a big convoy so please make sure you arrive on time (or even a bit before, so that we can deflate quickly and get on our way. @RaYan E @Kailas @Gok Krish @Syed Raza Hussain @Karthik Krishnakumar @Shyam Karat @Mahmoud Asar @Piotr Kolodziej @Nitin Mohan @Yusuf Esaf @Mohamed Abo ElKomsan @Rizwan Waheed Morning Newbie Desert Drive South Qudra 9 Oct 2020 Attendees Level Car Radio Pos # Wrangeld Marshal Mitsubishi Pajero SWB Y 1 Lead Franco Swart Fewbie Mitsubishi Pajero SWB Y 2 2nd lead Nitin Mohan Newbie Toyota Landcruiser Prado Y 3 Gok Krish Newbie Jeep Wrangler SWB Y 4 Kailas Fewbie Jeep Wrangler SWB Y 5 Karthik Krishnakumar Newbie Jeep Wrangler SWB Y 6 Piotr Kolodziej Newbie Toyota FJ Cruiser Y 7 Lorenzo Candelpergher Intermediate Nissan Patrol Y62 Y 8 CF Syed Raza Hussain Newbie Mitsubishi Pajero LWB Y 9 Mohamed Abo El Komsan Newbie Mitsubishi Pajero LWB Y 10 Rizwan Waheed Newbie Mitsubishi Pajero LWB Y 11 RayanE Newbie Mitsubishi Pajero LWB 12 Yusuf Esaf Newbie Nissan Patrol Y62 Y 13 Mahmoud Asar Newbie Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Y 14 Shyam Karat Newbie Jeep Wrangler LWB Y 15 Foxtrot Oscar Advance Nissan Xterra Y 16 SW As you are all newbies, you should have your own radio - there will be no spare radios available tomorrow - which should be tuned to Carnity Channel 4. There will not be time to program radios at the departure point. Please make sure that your radio is preprogrammed. It goes without saying (but I will say it anyhow ) that if you don't have a radio, you don't drive. What to expect tomorrow morning: You will be challenged: For some of you this will be only the second time in the sand, so bring your A game - better to be without distractions if possible, because the terrain will be more challenging than you had before. We will move faster: At Absolute Newbie level for your first drive we take things slow and easy. Now the fun starts. expect to be moving a little faster than before. You'll need to keep up with the convoy and watch out for the person behind. You'll practice, practice, practice: Newbie level is about getting the skills needed to move further in your desert aventure, so expect to be crossing a lot of dunes, probably up and over so that you get used to what your car can do. You'll get stuck: It's going to happen, and if it does not you are possibly not trying hard enough. It's also really important to get stuck from time to time. How else do you learn how to get out of those situations. The seniors on the drive will be there to help you when it happens. The landscape we will be crossing tomorrow has nice wide dunes and some technical dunes as well. The wide dunes are great for gaining confidence in driving on sand, the technical are there to help you learn how to cross terrain, how to control your car and how to control yourself. The aim of tomrrows drive is to have fun, learn and if we can make it, drive all the way from South Qudra back into the Qudra lakes. This will depend totally on the convoy performance. That's not a challenge to anyone. What we do at Carnity is a team game, so we make sure first and foremost that what we do is safe, that everyone gets out of the desert (as well as into it) and where we can that we make the event exciting. Looking forward to the drive tomorrow with anticiapation of a great morning's fun. Just to confirm, our seniors tomorrow morning: @Foxtrot Oscar who will be sweep. The job of sweep is to make sure that the convoy is moving and no-one is left behind. The sweep also handles the recoveries through the drive that cannot be managed by the Centre Froward. @Lorenzo Candelpergher will be our Centre Froward. His responsibility is to be the first line when there are refusals and stucks. @Franco Swart will be second lead. The second lead's job is to follow the drive lead (at a distance) and reroute in case there is a need to go a different way. Please post any questions you might have here in the forum. See you soon in the sand.

Dear Waitlisted Dersert Drivers @Ranjan Das @[email protected] @Sandeep Padhi @Hardik Mody You probably read thr above post on this drive with dismay - because currently it looks like there are not going to be spaces on the drive for you. We are doing our best and hopeful we will find spaces for some (if not all) of you on Friday. Normally, after the drive reminder is sent we find that a few people remember they have another commitment, or soem people simply cannot make it. Please continue to stay on standby as things change at the last minute. You might get a message late Thursday that a place has come up, or a message that we can take you - so please don't give up hope yet. Have a great day.

Good morning Desert Drivers Friday morning will see us scale the wonderful wide, white dunes or South Qudra. This is a playgound of wide open dunes where desert driving skills can be honed and learned in challenging, but not too challenging landscapes. Confirmed drivers on this drive are @RaYan E @Kailas @Gok Krish @Syed Raza Hussain @Karthik Krishnakumar @Shyam Karat @Mahmoud Asar @Piotr Kolodziej @Nitin Mohan @Yusuf Esaf @Mohamed Abo ElKomsan @Rizwan Waheed Please make sure you have the required equipment with you BEFORE you arrive at the drive. As absolute newbies it was possible to turn up without the right kit - at newbie drives you do need to have as a minumum: Flag, deflation kit, shovel and on THIS DRIVE A WORKING COMPRESSSOR. If you don't have these, you won't be driving, because it puts the other drivers at risk. There is going to be some amazing support on this drive @Foxtrot Oscar @Lorenzo Candelpergher and @Franco Swart will all be on hand to help out and make sure that the convoy runs as smoothly as possible. What to expect from a drive in South Qudra? Lots of wide dunes where there is a chance to traverse and get a great feel for controlling your vehicle in the sand. Excellent assortment of dunes for different feeling as they are crossed - some straight up and over like you arleady learned, some whale back so you start to learn what it is like to cross over the top of a dune. Good descents where you can practice your control on the slip face of a dune and avoid fish taliling. The plan of action is to get into the dunes as quickly as possible (there is a short track we take before getting into the dunes proper) and enjoy the earlier morning cooler weather before the sand becomes much more soft and sticky. If the convoy can make it, we will drive all the way to Last Exit, but if not, we have lots of other options along the way. IF FOR ANY REASON YOU ALREADY KNOW YOU CANNOT MAKE THE DRIVE, PLEASE ADVISE AND LET US KNOW. THERE IS A WAIT LIST FOR THE DRIVE. Any other questions, please post them here.

Brette has been promoted to Expert level
Wrangeld replied to Gaurav's topic in Off-Road Club's Announcements
Hi @Brette it's funny, I always have in my mind that you were higher up the Carnity ladder than me! Your calm and assuring nature always fantastic to have on a drive and your friendship, more than anything. We shared Liwa in February and I for one am hoping that as soon as we are allowed out to play again, we can spend more evenings around a campfire. Truly looking forward to being your support on a drive. Congrats -

Wrangeld (Richard) has been promoted to Marshal level
Wrangeld replied to Gaurav's topic in Off-Road Club's Announcements
Not long ago, an exceptionally kind Marshal loaned two newbies a very expensive (but we learned later, not so useful (!) shovel) as they started on their 4x4 journey in the UAE. Hard to say thanks to you enough for the continued friendship and support you have unfailingly given since that day on multiple levels. See you soon , as you say in the sand or back yard. -

@Gaurav @Emmanuel @Rahimdad @Frederic @Srikumar @Ale Vallecchi a deepfelt thanks for this vote of confidence. This has been a year of learning, and growth that has been empowered and anabled by all of you. @Shamil @Brette @Asif Hussain @sertac @Kalahari @Vanessa8580 @Desert Dweller @Foxtrot Oscar @Chaitanya D @Tbone (really hope I did not miss soneone out, yikes!) thanks for supporting, keeping us all honest in this game, showing the way for everyone else that loves being out there in the sand. You've all played a big part in enabling me to get to this promotion - I can happily let you all know where you had the biggest impact if you have any doubt about that. And to the rest of the Carnity family, who have been kind enough to come on drives I led, or allowed me to support them in their efforts, thank you. Without these opportunities to grow and learn, the marshals would never be in a position to work out the solutions we sometimes need to find on our drives. As we keep saying, this is a team game. None of us can get anywhere without the other and we never ever leave anyone behind. See you soon in the sand.- 33 replies

@Gaurav ...honored and humbled that you've put this trust in me. You've been a great and important supporter, mentor and friedn through this process and feel blessed to have been 'attracted' to Carnity. It will be responsibility now not to let this rank or club down. @Yousef Alimadadi many thanks. @sertac you next buddy! @Asif Hussain incredible to think that because of this crazy situation, we never met yet. Thanks for the wishes and hoping we will ge tto meet some day. @Srikumar Thank you for so warmly including us into the Carnity family. You've been there since the beginning and supported every move and mishap with kind and generous words and deeds. It's somethiing you are still doing, and for which I am truly, truly grateful. @Vanessa8580 you're hot on our heels! Thanks for all your support and friendship. Looking forward to supporting you on a drive as soon as possible. @Najeeb Mohammed thanks a lot @Kalahari looking forward to that for sure and to being your support on a drive soon. You're hot on the heels of all of us, and will be even more once the covid thing lets us get together again properly. @Ale Vallecchi could not have done this without you my friend. Your support, friendship, wisdom and everything that you so generously give as a part of being in your slipstream is simply humbling. Looking forward to the next time. @Chaitanya D that passion is not greater than your, nor the dedication. I am so glad you are a part of this story and that you are creating your own in Canity as well. @Jeepie thanks go to you more than anyone else at this point. We found a new hobby together, and were inseperable for months (OK - not a lot of choice,we only had one car). I still love being your passenger, supporting your drives and seeing how incredibly you handle the leadership of drives. There's a whole load more I love about you ... but this might not be the right forum for that.- 33 replies
