Xterra has a air filter at the same location behind the glove box. Sand accumulates there and u get "sand storms" after every drive with switching the AC on. One needs to clean that filter regularly like we clean the air filter for engine

While we have been enjoying night drives in this hot summer, it is important we are well aware as to what needs to be done in case of a creeper bite in the dark. Desert is their home and we are the "invaders" , and hence instinctively they can bite us in self defense. Scorpions and snakes are more active at night and hence it is required you know what needs to be done when this can occur SNAKES: a quick pictorial review of snakes which can be found in UAE. Snakes can be venomous (Poisonous) and non venomous(Non poisonous) Non venomous 1. Blind Snake Non venomous 2. Thread Snake Non venomous 3. Sand Boa Non venomous 4. Wadi Racer Non venomous 5. False Cobra Non venomous 6. Sand racer - Hissing snake Non venomous Venomous Snakes - Poisonous - the Triangular faced Vipers are dangerous which are the only poisonous snakes found in UAE 1. Saw Scaled Viper - Poisonous 2. Sand Viper - Poisonous 3. False Horned Viper -Poisonous Vipers are the only venomous snakes in the UAE, and are found mostly in desert and rocky mountain areas. Snake bites are extremely rare, and most occur when a snake is picked up/ felt it is in danger. The Venom from UAE Vipers is Haemotoxic (destroys blood cells) Sometimes puncture wounds can be seen at site of the bite. Bite is generally not very painful but within one hour copious bleeding is likely from the bite wound and any other wounds cuts or scratches the victim may have. Symptoms include a severe headache, nausea and vomiting. It’s helpful to restrict the blood and lymphatic flow, but it’s important not to cause bruising which can lead to bleeding under the skin. If Venom is spat in to a person’s eyes use any liquid available, preferably a neutral one such as water or milk – but anything at all will do, to flush out the eye. Do's and Don'ts of Treating Snake Bite Symptoms usually manifest soon after a snake bite, so observing the victim is extremely important. If no symptoms have occurred within half an hour of the bite then indications would be that it was not a venomous snake, it failed to inject any venom or the snake was very old and had little or no venom left. Do Try to identify the snake; color, size, shape of head, attacking method are useful. Take a picture with mobile if feasible but don't chase the snake. Loosen the Victim’s clothing and move them in to comfort. Keep the victim calm and still; movement will increase blood flow and transport the venom to the heart much faster. Immobilize the limb but do NOT restrict blood flow unless you are certain the bite was from a snake that delivers neurotoxic venom. Clean and dress the wound being careful not to apply pressure and cause bruising. Inform the trip lead/support IMMEDIATELY so that he/she can manage a exit quickly to the tarmac. Do Not While there can be differences of opinion as to what we should do for snake bites the consensus of opinion as to what not to do is reasonably consistent: Allow the victim to exercise or stress themselves. Cut the bite or attempt to suck the venom out. Give the victim anything to eat or drink especially alcohol. Use potassium permanganate crystals or solution near or on the bite wound. Use soapy water round the bite wound. Leave pressure bandages on too long. Leave the victim alone. Apply ice to the wound. Soak the affected limb in any solutions. How to avoid this extremely rare occurrence in the desert on Night drives 1. Compulsorily wear thicker full pants and ankle boots. Least being a full covered shoes. Coming in shorts and flip flops/slippers means you are voluntarily increasing the risk 2. Refrain from walking in bushy areas . 3. In a unusual scenario of shovelling near bushes make sure you have a clearly lit area to make sure there aren't any . 4. Please use a bright torch and look where you step while taking biobreaks! Do not take biobreaks near bushes. Safer you stay inside your vehicle at all times , unless needed. SCORPIONS: Scorpion stings are painful but rarely life-threatening. There are about 25 species of scorpion in the UAE, two of which are known to release venom that can lead to nausea, shock and irregular heartbeat. 1. Fat Tailed Scorpion - large and Black 2. Deathstalker - Smaller (about 5 cm) and Yellow in color - More Dangerous Signs and symptoms at the site of a scorpion sting may include: Pain, which can be intense Numbness and tingling Slight swelling Warmth What to Do in case of a bite Identify if possible , or take a picture Announce immediately for quicker exit How to avoid this occurrence in the desert on Night drives 1. Before the drive, you will need to have viewed the introductory video (link above) and to have gone through the COVID19 precautions and agreed by clicking on the "totally agree" emoji at the bottom of the text in the following link : Please also make sure you are equipped with a tire deflator and a tire pressure gauge (sometimes they are all in one tool). You will need these. If you have an off-road flag as well that would be great. In case you do not have a flag mount on your car, you may look for a flag with suction cups, which can be easily placed on one of the rear windows. If you have your own air compressor, please bring it along. All these items should be available at any ACE or Speedex store, as well as at Dragon Mart. More information on programming the channels below Carnity Two-Way Radio Frequencies - Off-road - Carnity.com Regarding the area of the drive, we will access the desert from a less used entry point, along the road going from Qudra Parking (where you can use the ADNOC gas station to fill up your tank), toward the Bab al Shams Resort. Follow carefully the Google Maps directions: once you turn off the tarmac road (after circling a roundabout next to a mosque), you will cross an opening through roadworks being done along the bike track. Once arrived at the meeting point, we'll conduct a final inspection of your cars (sufficient clearance and accessible tow points are a must). Following a technical briefing, we'll be ready to enter the dunes, and start your off-roading adventure. This area is rarely used by other clubs, and the sand is much cleaner and smoother, so this is an ideal ground to move your first steps in the desert. My experience with X heating 1. Check if your mechanic has installed the stock original Nissan radiator and caps. All others - for whatever reasons cool less effectively. 2. Play with gears rather than just D 3. Ride on Sabkhas/Flat dunes as soon as it touches 100 - cools quickly with switching off AC 4. Yes No AC, preferably. I don't use AC at all, feels terrible at start but somehow body adjusts in few min ( but its me) 5. Take off the Oil changing window cover in your bash plate, lets in more air for better cooling even though very minor. 6. Plan exits on the drive exactly on time during the day

Hi @Wade Pat2. You have a time tested great car ,no doubt. Yes for smaller tighter technical places you need some minor adjustments in terms of approach and departures , considering the longer wheel base which you will master with practice sooner than later. We have some friends with extra LWB monster trucks like RAM, F150/Raptors and Tundra doing the technical dunes and they in fact drive much better than the SWB cars.

Did you try to remove it with a air gun or the nozzle of the compressor blowing sand and check. Looks quite unusual to see this and indeed the vibration was a bit strange .

Trip report - what a thrilling night drive: Coming back the very next day from a near flawless night NB drive who managed the first technical bit with few refusals only , I wanted to challenge the experienced members going into the baby dunes entering a bit more early to test the skills we have learned. And that's when the desert Gods decided to bring us , and especially me down to earth!! The small 400 to 500 m stretch of tight dunes felt likea million Kms - we had multiple refusals , stucks in super soft sand patches and some stucks in impossible pockets including one of mine as I slipped into a pocket needing the more experienced member @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ to pull me as it was a one try situation and he did it perfectly . We had cars getting stuck on plane dunes, cars getting stuck on baby crests, cars sinking in sand as soon as they stop and some cars making weird noises as if they said "we don't want to drive on these dunes"🤣🤣. The sand was extremely soft and we spent a considerable amount of time recovering all the cars but all did well with good coordination for multiple shoveling, tugging and then we were on to the long dunes. A breath of fresh air as if we were just born babies crying aloud to gasp that oxygen for our cars airboxes to expand!! Once on to the long dunes what happened next was pure thrill. Long climbs , super long side slopes, ridge rides following the leap of faith, super sharp criss crosses at fantastic pace let everyone's hearts racing. You will not believe even though we drove like this for just over 2 hrs , all the hard work we had initially was almost forgotten. Vow it was pure thrill doing those !! Impressive how everyone pushed their cars playing with the tiptronics climbing those ridges and cross crossings. At one place we did non stop criss cross on sharp ridges which was thrilling. Well handled by all. We squeeze the max out of these long dunes and then headed towards the sabkhas separating from Murqab. Sand in these smaller dunes was softer and we had more refusals , again bringing us back to mother earth. Managed quickly with some tugs and then we played quite some time more in the longer dunes and some nice bowls there. Unfortunately I landed in a smallish pocket which was hardly visible coming off the ridge. Pulling needed a double rope and the car tugging got stuck with the rope tight. Thanks @Rob H for the sequential 2nd pull from other tow hook to remove the tension on the rope . We drove back to exit quickly from there taking the dirt tracks , slightly late but all in all a good thrilling drive in the dark. @Pacific did well managing the 2nd lead positions. Thank you. You need to control your gas in soft sands as you will dig in quickly if you don't control that. Sorry to see that bend on your front end after you took a bump , causing your car to lean to right which was more evident on tarmac. I hope it is an easy fix . @Gok Krish glad to see you after a long time. Impressive how you have improved and managed even when I pushed it . Hardly any issues, some refusals which is always part of the learning. Well done. @Lawrence_Chehimi managed his patrol y62 well on this fast paced drive in the dark. I suppose your car doesn't like the technical stuff throwing some weird noises. 🤣🤣. I hope it hasn't come back and all is well. Great driving that monster @Thomas Varghese has some huge experience coming into this drive which was great to see. However you still need to get that control further to manage that fishtailing on faster and steeper climbs. It is a very thin line , which will come with practice and you will improve on that for sure. We will improve with every drive, I improve every drive leading and supporting learning something new and hence I am sure you will learn it too quickly. Thank you for spotting the issue with @Pacific car diligently. @GauravSoni did well in all areas and always good to see you having a very helpful attitude. Minor refusals and stuck in some softer patches on slowing down , but well driven . Thanks for staying back while we waited for the recovery truck along with @Gok Krish . @Rizwanm2 managed the challenge well even though slightly at the back which meant you will be driving on slightly churned tracks. Impressive to see you hardly had any issues, well done. @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ with copilot son Rafay helped immensely in all the time we needed help. Tugging me twice from pockets in tricky areas . Well driven and great to have your company on any drive. Thank you @Rob H sweeped us all with his supercharged Tundra. Impressive as always and why I say this is even in tighter baby dunes where many had issues having refusals and stucks you just eased through in that monster. Of course well driven on the longer dunes which as fantastic to see. Well done and thank you. It was a first for me - a full 4 hr thrilling intermediate fast paced drive at night. We drove close to slightly longer than 2 hrs without any issues and we spent close to 2hrs managing the recoveries. For the 2 hrs we drove we clocked close to 50 Km at a fantastic pace doing all the maneuvers as planned in the dark. The 2 hrs we spent managing recoveries definitely kept us grounded🤣🤣. We will learn from all these and come back soon to have some fun and thrill in the dark albeit with lesser issues hopefully. Enjoy your week at work and see you all some time soon. Cheers

Trip report Well we had signups who were pretty experienced even though it was a newbie drive and the challenges were hence managed with minimal issues. Quite impressive how you all managed the first technical bit in 10 to 20 min landing us in some nice long range dunes in quick time. Why I say this ? If you have time read the thread on the other IM drive on friday night , we spent close to 2 hrs in this initial bit managing the technical dunes. That's why I love this challenge of bringing different levels of drivers thinking we can ease through but it always turns otherwise - sand and dunes of Lisaili are a great leveller. You ease through with apparently less experienced members while you have a eventful drive with more experienced members with multiple stucks and refusals. Vow! @Lakshmi Narasimhan was absolutely perfect, impressive stuff. Very precise in keeping the perfect distance and correctly adjusting my minor mistakes. Well done and thank you. Love that wonderfully prepped Pajero of yours. @Gregory even though a NB in his rank was very well up to the challenges without any issues. I suppose you are there at FB now and please go ahead and apply for your promotion. We will review and get you to the next level, have fun. @Fabien Monleau managed his classic LC well , few refusals and probably a tug. All done quickly, and it was nice to see you quickly correct your approach on the small slip side straight climb we did. Well done. @N@ved thank you for managing he center forward well with clear instructions and perfect tugs where needed. I am so happy you are getting along that cute little TJ to pull monsters just like the story of a little tug boat guiding a huge container ship.
