i could lead a drive this friday in the desert if you can find at least 2 other cars (i never hit the sand with les than 3 cars) its ok in these winter months but its a rule i have so i will not break it.
see how many you can get, i can leand anything from never been to the desert upto absulutly insane i didn't know it was possible for a car to do that!
if you use AXA then you can get both off road and oman insurance but if your tight like me and just use the company at the test center and have 3rd party only then you have to buy it seperate, i'm not 100% sure of price (as i quite oftern use an off road route round the check point but this does mean if i have an accident i am 100% liable for the cost of both cars if my fault) so better to buy it at the petrol station we will stop at to fill up before crossing the other boarder
i'like yourself are thinking about lossing the center section of the exhaust and maybe just leave the rear there, if that doesn't give the right extra power and sound then also change the rear box for a stailess performance box
one problem with the land rover V8 is it just doesn't sound like a V8
Now that sounds like a plan, thinking about getting one in 2012.
now you have a nice 110 why don't you chuck the family and camping gear in it and come out this weekend on the Land Rover only mountain and wadi drive i'm doing. we will be back around lunch time on 24th so in plenty of time for xmas eve partys etc. give me a shout on 056 1703053. Richard
best way round it is to purchase the wheel adapter, this will fit to just about any wheel and lift the car using the wheel as a jack point, however if you need to raise the car to change the wheel then this is usless
@ Gaurav,
yes it should be no problem, we will have to cross a road to get to the camp site and from here you can get home, i expect to get to the road somewhere between 4 and 6pm, so you could be back in Dubai anywhere between 6 and 8pm.
i think we are now upto around 5 cars
i use high lift as the bags are not really safe, mind you nor is the high lift unless you learn to use it first, the high lift can break arms, legs and even heard of it taking someone eye out recently, they are the best but only if you know how and when to use, if you get completely stuck with a flat and you only have a normal jack you can always use it under the suspension (this is far from perfect and a bit dangerous) but could get you by in an ermergancy
VCO, when you're checking them let me know if you come across a disco 2 (new head light model) i need that stupid plastic sheild that goes under the front windshield and becomes brittle and breaks in the sun.
oh yes i know exactly where to go, we will all meet up near Mirdiff on the Hatta road (exact time and place to be sent to those who agree to come) and then i will take you through one of the not so well know wadis just inside Oman, (no passports required just ID card) although you may need Oman insurance but this can be purchased for around 150dhs for a few days, we will cross into Oman pick up a wadi trail which will take around 4-5 hours of off road driving (some of it very exciting) and then onto the campsite, in the morning i will take you back home through the standard hatta mountain route past the pools but with a little difference to the standard route and alot more fun then head home for lunch.
so whos up for it!
Family welcome, i will be taking mine, i'll call it a xmas drive (santa hat optional)
since when has an oil pressure switch been at the back of a car? i think you mean Fuel sender unit but this is inside the fuel tank and the fuel tank would be more likely to break first, you do however have a fuel filter under the back and could also be that! i still say take it to a garage!
mountains are great as thats where the land rover is most at home, i don't think the 1st will be possible as will likely have a hang over but the weekend after may be good, if we can get a few more we can do a overnight stay as well i know just the route for an amazing relaxing drive and a great place to camp overnight. so start regitering here
Sorry guys, yes Jan 20th, wish it was Dec 20th.
and i'm a Marshal so when ever you guys fancy a drive let me know and i'll take you all, a landy only desert drive or if you perfer mountain drive :-0
could be fuel pump or even wires to the fuel pump, could also be a bad earth on the car, failed MAF sensor, Failed Crank position sensor, timing out, bad HT coil lead, in fact it could be a hugh number of things quite oftern a simple thing, take it to AAA or AtoZ garage they will find the problem for you
changing the thermostat is not likely to fix an overheating problem, the most likely causes are water pump failure, cooling fan failure, radiator blooked, head gasket failed.
when you run the engine is the fan on once the engine is warm? cooling fan failed
is there any oil in the water tank? head gasket failed
is there lots of rust and dirty water in the water tank / radiator? poss radiator blockage (can be checked better by checking incoming and outgoing hose temps
water pump failure need to check incoming and out going radiator pipes for temp.
