johntr
I was wondering if i can change the engine oil on my own. I dont know if it is risky. Has anyone of you did that. If yes, then please tell me how and if it is safe to do so!
amitk
Don't ever try that. You will burn your hand. Changing engine oil is a big task and complicated as well. I wont prefer you to change the oil on your own.
Amalik
Well changing oil is not a big task if you have plenty of space and right tool. In every car under the engine there is an oil nut bolt (drain plug) that you open and all engine oil will drain. Better to change engine oil when car is cold and everything is easy and not hot. Once you open the drain plug, put the 4-5 liter empty gallon/can/open tray under that drain stream. Let it drain everything and then on either (left/right) side of the engine (down only) you will see oil filter. Unscrew that and change that in every oil change or in every alternate oil change (max). Replace the crush washer and close the drain plug (bolt). Come out and fill new engine oil from top of the engine bay. Check level with dipstick and start the car. Once car reaches normal operating temperature, switch off the car and check oil level after 5 minutes and top up another half liter as when oil filter is new it needs little extra oil, that reaches oil filter only when you start the car. And check oil level once again after 5 minutes and if it stays in perfect safe range, you are done.
