I have a 2002 Ford Mustang Timing Belt Question.

My ride is a 2002 Mustang in pink condition but when getting the car serviced at 85 K the mechanic said that the timing belt needs a change. So i would like to know cant i service the timing belt If not do i have to change it and how can i confirm it
