  1. DRIVE REPORT It was lovely to start the day with AC set at 2 rather than on 3 fan speed. As the weather has changed so fast in the morning that it was amazing to drive and enjoy the cool breeze. Dense fog made it a bit difficult to reach but it all settled down by the time we were ready to move. Absolute Newbie drives are amazing to see so many new faces, different cars, new and unique questions all at one go. Thanks, everyone for being on time to respect everyone's time. As soon as we started we were welcome with a big bunch of gazelles on their morning walk, just before the qudra lake area. We started with a flat track and went pass the under-construction new lake and start to practice small straight up and down the dune. Soon after the first few km we entered the real qudra desert and start to conquer one dune after another. Thankfully we had all great drivers behind great cars and everyone did fantastically well and we manages to do a lot of swings, dunes crossing, and track. Thanks, @Peter Hallez for wonderful second lead and helping in re-routing when needed. You have a very good offroader (Rubicon) with unique color, I'm sure you will enjoy her a lot as you climb up the off-road ladder. Keep up your great learning attitude. I fully understand @Roopesh babu that it was a bit scary experience in the beginning as pushing cars over 2-3K revs is not everyone used to, but towards the end you did fantastic and clearly shows that your confidence and apetitie for offroading is in well sync. @sri ganesh every stuck and refusal teaches you a lot and you have been very fortunate today to learn the real art of offroading by self-recovering yourself with patience and precision. Leaving the throttle (or not pushing) at wrong angles and time mostly result in such weird and difficult refusals. @Luca Palanca Falsini it was nice to meet you and know your previous off-road experience. Your Fortuner with off-road bumper looks totally different and very nice. It was worth investing in this when you broke your stock bumper twice. Also work on finessing your offroad abilities to take difficult angles at slow speed, as off-road skills and vehicles should transform hand in hand. Based on today's drive and self-declaration you may apply for your fewbie level promotion here: https://carnity.com/forums/topic/15289-off-road-club-grading-structure-v20 Finally @Gok Krish you have made it to your first drive after a long wait. To be honest, after the first quick look at your JGC Summit, I was about to send you back due to extremely low ground clearance. But the magic of electronic suspension height control saved your day and the air dam (front spoiler). I highly recommend you to get that air dam to remove for better peace of mind. You can check with @Brette here on what are the best solution to modify or remove. He is driving similar JGC (not summit) for 2 years now and reached at Advance level with the same vehicle. @Krishnakumar haven't heard anything from you during the drive, means you were either too good or Prado pampered you well, lol. Either case you drove very well today as I saw you a few times, keep it up. @Farook Veettil you and your land cruiser need some time to get along while off-roading. Pay close attention to the car in front and try replicating that as much as possible with the same momentum and speed. You can even drive with windows rolled down to have audible feedback of the car in front, so you know at what RPM the front car is driving and you can push precisely when needed. @Shital Somaiya it was nice to see the new shape Patrol Y62 with a much better ground clearance as this was the biggest Achilles heel for the previous generation Y62 Patrol. I hope you enjoyed the drive and check with AOR for the correct flag adapter as it seems some part was missing. @Sandeep Padhi heard your praise from Vanessa means you were really good and ready for the next challenge. Thanks, @Vanessa8580 for the wonderful support, patience, and recovery skills to keep the whole convoy moving and taking care of everyone with a smile and confidence. ________________________ To All Absolute Newbies: Moving forward you all will be joining the Newbie drives and not an Absolute Newbie drive. 5. To put things in perspective, I have driven my stock Pajero with stock bash plate for 8+ years and had occasional bending scenario (once in 2 or 3 years), which can easily be hammered while oil change. Just after I installed the winch, my stock bash plate wasn't fitting so I went for a custom made bash plate. Installed in winter and coming summer my car was overheating on road due to absence of ventilating holes. @Dagdag Sofiane chance of you hitting rock causing an oil leak is next to none in sand, unless you drive like a Dakar rally champions at 100 KM speed in the rocky terrain. If you as a driver is cautious on rocky terrain and drive slowly and sensibly you really don't need such heavy fabricated armour, it's simply an overkill and brainwashed with fabricated sales stories with 0.00001% scenarios. I have even climb Jabal jais (unpaved in olden days) and several other mountains and wadis with stock bash plate and never had any incident. All my incidents were purely based on my high speed stupidities where I supposed to slow down and I didn't. This is the car crushing games, I meant as a metaphor.
  6. Few things to clarify for everyone: Original company bash plates are usually 2 mm thin, so upgrade to 6-8 mm is plenty. Fabrication houses love to bump to 10+ mm to increase price. It's simply an overkill, overpriced and heavy on nose. Installing metal frame behind is another new way of extracting more money, yes it increase the rigidity but if you are playing car crushing games. Even for rocks here in UAE it's of no use if you know how to drive. For sand they will make your car nose heavy and restrict your hill climb, marginally. Unless you intend to drive at extreme level, simple and lighter bash plate is more than enough. Make sure design you pick, have holes for ventilation but not so many that it weaken the strength or holes close to the border of the bash plate. Few equvi-distance hole in center is perfect.

  8. RSA, AXA and Oman all 3 have good offroad insurance cover.
  9. Technical Service Bulletin Check more here recalls for Toyota, updated since 2018. https://carnity.com/recall/toyota
  10. That means it was a TSB as they get to wait for car to come back for service. Recalls done for critical component failure and usually dealer HAVE TO CALL the owner to schedule an earliest appointment.
  11. All recalls and TSB are always or mostly free, and it has no connection with warranty. Car manufacturers are doing recalls even after 10 -15 years. Nice info you shared with everyone to help here. Well done.
  12. Everyone is damn right above. And also driver needs a new eye-test for driving license or learn to drive off-road without any distractions. From 00:13 - 00:15 seconds there was a clear visual in front and still he couldn't brake or alter the path.
  13. Really hope this help, curb COVID spread now and bring figures down.

  22. Welcome to the leaders lead - first session (1 of 3). In this first session you will very first break the fear of leading and what to expect, which is the biggest fear for every new leader and will do that formally and properly with this training. Training will start with briefing on: Leading (what to expect) Sand reading Dune reading Angles of approach How to see what's on the other side Safe entry and safe exits Speed vs techniques Idea is to let you lead in any direction to any destination just to get familiar and confident first with the base concept of leading. No one will judge you if you are too fast or too slow or too bumpy, as that's how everyone learn to lead their first drives. So take it easy and come with an open mind and clean slate so that you can start a fresh new chapter in your offroading journey. Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow.
  23. I'm sure he will spend lot less by deleting that one letter J
