  1. First and the foremost you aren't spamming and don't think that way, the core of Carnity is to share knowledge and help car owners on GCC specific cars. Unless you are selling fake passports, degrees, drugs, watches or self-promotion is considered spam here and get shot every 10 minutes. As per OP, this is the typical scenario of lifter starving of oil. If it only happens when the car is cold and goes away when it reaches idle temperature, its borderline acceptable. After my recent engine change, for the first time I have used Mitsubishi engine oil from Habtoor and after 2-3 weeks I got the worst noise while startup and it got reduced a lot after the warm but it has not stopped completely. So I changed back to my Mobil1 and never heard of noise again. So yes this could be because of the inferior quality of oil that fails to reach to the lifter on top due to varied viscosity at varying temperature and failing to lube the lifters and rockers. 2. As discussed on the drive, it sounds like a vacuum leak from somewhere. New point added now that it stops when you touch the brake points it could be booster dying. I replaced my booster 20-30k kms back and once its dead brake will be very very hard, and you have to literally stamp on the brake pedal with full power to stop the car. The car will stop fine but braking distance increases by 20-30% due to a late reaction. If your brakes are fine yet, you can drive 3K (hopefully) or let some good mechanic test the leak and advice accordingly.
  3. Check the fuse diagram and see if any relay is controlling the DRL (daytime running light) or fog lights and gently tap on those relay to see if that helps. Similar happened to my wife trailblazer when solid state relay failed and resulted in an exact same symptom of one side headlight failed. Those solid state relay doesn't have any clicking noise to identify if they are working fine or not. So my best bet would be to change that. In Chevrolet, it was costing me 350 and 30 days wait for special order, then I sourced same in scrap parts shop by scouting few hours and found one for 50 dhs.
  4. Theoretically and technically yes, but in so many situations I used central diff lock but nothing happens. Only when I engage rear diff lock magic start to happen. I assume here because rear diff lock automatically engages the central too so rear both tires get equal split of power than sending more to freewheel or badly stuck wheel.
  5. Oh great but at least in my Pajero it's actual activation takes time after the blinking gets stable. While blinking its still negotiating to how to engage. To accelerate engaging I keep toggling on D and reverse with small interval and it activates it fast with a clear grrrr, tkk noise from the rear wheel. 99 out of 100 times it really saved me, only 1% when all four wheels are free then I need external assistance.
  6. If you get your rear diff lock to work, this would have been self-recovery in less than a minute.
  7. Autodata might have this information, if you have any friends in insurance they can pull this data because subscription of Autodata is very expensive and its only for commercial businesses.
  8. It was a wonderful drive with a perfect mix of 4 fewbies and 4 senior members to take care and train the fewbie transition as smooth as possible. We started almost on time with little delay and assign the convoy numbering to have all fewbies spreading after each experienced member. Faced a tiny bit of challenge in Pyramids dunes, which is actually an intermediate level so lower the level back to fewbie and all were smiling and develop their confidence in no time. After a bit of playing in dunes with side sloping, ridge cutting and criss-crossing again I pushed the level up everyone performed good and enjoyed throughout. No serious issues happen except a couple of usual refusals and crest stuck closer to the Iftar bowl area. After reaching Iftar bowl we all took turns to try to reach on top from easy - difficult sides, few made it and others enjoy trying it out or watching the show. After playing in Iftar bowl, we found a quiet spot nearby to lay our spread with enough food and drinks on the table to share our drive stories and experience. I love that all fewbies have learned something new and went home with more offroading knowledge. @Javier M learned the reason of asking front or back heavy while doing crest recovery. @Frederic Nuyttens learned the art of leading by taking desert surprise in good faith. @hossein learned the art of crawling (blip-blip) and pop out fixing in jiffy. @Faizan khan learned to keep the pace with the convey and how to tame his heavy beast for such levels. Thanks @NOOR OMAR for second lead and keeping everyone safe. Thanks @EmVarlet and @skumar83 for sweep duties and teaching fewbies with full commitment and dedication. 9. Bidayer has mosque next to it too, try to make it soon as I can't hold all cars for long.
  10. OK, Guys, I think this whole thread turning into the big misunderstanding that I'm after cutting corners on oil, which is not true. I'm a kind of guy who gets 10k oil and replaces at 8-9k in all my cars. For offroad even faster at 5-6k due to extreme use. As per Range Rover manual, it says engine oil change every 12k interval and I am getting at 10k. This thread was not about engine oil at all. It was about the differential and transfer box oil which is almost doubling the cost (not few dirhams) at the dealership and advised to change at 68K km instead of 120K just because it's completed five years. This almost half mileage change request is bothering me. Going back to the original question, if everyone thinks here that diff and transfer oil also have an expiry for 5 years, then I'll get it changed. @shadow79 this Range so far not driven offroad and not started leaking yet as per their leaking DNA. @Barry I know dealership service history is scam sometimes, but even bigger scams I have seen when you just trust the people words of "regularly serviced" and it has been done just engine oil and filter changed at Enoc for last 10 years. I don't mind paying an extra premium if I get dealer service history to rule out that. And the second reason for this Range was really genuine low kms unlike 200+ kms driven I have seen at half the price.
  11. I'm sorry Andreas, this area is a bit more than newbie level so I highly recommend doing few more newbie drives and try your hand on side sloping first to graduate to fewbie level. Tomorrow's fewbie area have a lot of crisscrosses and side sloping area, that you not be comfortable with your two drives experience.
  12. It's not about the Jackpot, it's about continuing the dealer service history for which I paid a fat premium. However, looks like time to move out now and get actual 120K service at a quarter the price.
  13. Perfect toy car with changeable looks from G - defender - Jimny finally like Chameleons
  14. So you were proven spoiled mechanic if you knew all these pranks to the AH level. Good, you haven't started your workshop.
  15. Looks like we have good signup from fewbie members now, so it's gonna be good fun in that area. @Rockhead as this is a fewbie level drive and it seems your first drive with Carnity. Usually, it is mandatory to join at least one newbie drive so that we can gauge your offroad skills to advise further. Please advise your offroad experience and how many previous drives you have done in the past? If it's less than 5 drives, I highly suggest you wait and join newbie or absolute newbie drive first to get proper orientation and compulsory briefing for newbie level.
  16. Thanks, guys for the input, appreciate a bit clear response on the actual question: Is it really required to change rear diff and transfer box oil at 68k kms with 5 years of life.....?
  17. Sorry to hear that, but you are not alone in this tough time as I have been hearing this exact same news everyday among my family and friend circle since last month. No more projects and company start laying off redundant staff. Hope you will find something better soon, wish you good luck buddy
  18. What is more important and relevant in car service: Time vs Kilometer driven? I just schedule my Range Rover service with Al Tayer and they said I need to get the major service of 120k kms, while the car is only driven 68,000 kms. Their logic is time-based vs km - whichever comes first. They gave me this logic last time too when I sent the car for service and they carried out 108k service when the car was 58,000 kms driven. I somehow felt uncomfortable but went with the flow to not to spoil the service history, which has been regularly maintained by the previous owner. This time it's quite over the top with major service estimate, where they say they have to change rear diff oil and transfer box oil every 5 years or 120k kms. Is it really required to change rear diff and transfer box oil at 68k kms with 5 years of life.....? If you say Kilometer driven is prime then why all car manufacturer has this in their maintenance schedule, let alone UAE but everyone uses the same approach globally. Please explain why......?
