Pajero 3.8 SWB buying advice in UAE
Srikumar replied to TheoB's topic in Mitsubishi Pajero Forum in UAE
Has the 30k km been serviced in intervals as per the km reading? Oil change as per the manufacturer under normal driving condition should be done at every 10k km Since the mileage is very low I would give this car a chance if it fits your budget. Pajeros are built tough and run quite a bit. I owned a 2010 Pajeros 3.8 LWB and ran 400k km when I finally sold it. Ran very smooth till I finally sold it and was extremely reliable, esp. considering the fact that in between the 200-300k km the oil change was not done properly on schedule (as the car was temporarily given to a family member who ran the oil dry!!). -

@Thomas Varghese I am surprised with your comment. Its clearly mentioned that Marshal feedback is required. Screen shot of Marshal / Trip Lead feedback is provided below incase you have missed it. Also at the bottom of each offroad rank, its clearly mentioned that it will take 3-7 days for trip lead feedback. I really dont know what more clarity is needed. Source : -
@Marius Veldhuyzen van Zanten if you have min 8 inch of ground clearance at the front bumper you should be fine. Please measure it properly and let me know. @Zed we always try our best to ensure to wrap the drive on time, but as we are offroading there are always chances for delays and hence I cannot guarantee everything goes as per plan.

I would put mileage as the main factor over the year, considering that the model has not changed during that period. -

Congrats @Soumya Saklani drives get more interesting from here on. -
I somehow don't recollect the incident and if I was harsh I do apologize. But you have raised a very important point which is of fishtailing on a long side slope. Fishtailing if not controlled can go wrong very fast especially considering the speed at which this maneuver is done. Also, something that is to be mentioned to all members is that when you are driving in a convoy be mindful that there are cars behind you. So in your excitement donot churn up the track by taking the wrong line and then giving too much gas, this ruins the fun for the cars behind. Try to leave as less a foot print as possible on the sand.

@Thomas Varghese it's surprising that your mechanic had cut the tow point and not informed you. You ought to really blast him for this. -

The biggest maintenance parts would be the timing belt replacement along with few seals at 100k km. Brake pads are also a bit pricey which need to be changed between 40k - 60k km depending on your driving style. Regarding insurance, depending on the age of the vehicle, try to go for a comprehensive cover from RSA, AXA, Oman, Tokyo Marine Insurance. They would have off-road coverage as a standard in their policy. Also ensure that you have free recovery service inter Emirates. This will save you lot of money in the event of a car breakdown which needs to be towed to your garage. -
@DANIEL NOGUEIRA I have never mentioned anything improper about your car, but the fact is that you have had some troubles and this happens to many of us, as our cars which have all their lives been driven on the road are suddenly being pushed on the sand. Also, the whole purpose of the Extreme drives was to have continuous fast paced drives with minimal of stoppages and that's the reason why the drive member selection is based on Marshal and Crew feedback. If the issue in your car has been sorted, its great and you can join the IM drives a couple of times to test your vehicle. If there are no issues, you can then join an Extreme drive as this would be a regular feature moving forward.
-
Hi @DANIEL NOGUEIRA based on feedback from the Marshal and Crew of your previous drives, we understand you have had several car related issues in the recent past. Hence, I suggest you to first test your car a couple of times in Intermediate drives and if it has been a smooth run then you can sign up for selection to an Extreme drive. I will have to ask you to please sign out. Thanks.

Pajero 3.8 SWB buying advice in UAE
Srikumar replied to TheoB's topic in Mitsubishi Pajero Forum in UAE
I believe the upshifting issue was resolved post 2012 Pajero models, however the newer models do tend to have a transmission overheating issue. Pajeros are quite reliable and would last you a while if maintained regularly and you get good deals in the second hand market. Try to stick to a car which has done below 100k km and has a proper maintenance record (either at the agency or from outside). Getting the car checked at the agency is not something on which I have much experience on (as the agencies do tend to be quite expensive). Getting it checked outside with a reputable garage would be a better option. Getting cars with more mileage is fine as long as the car has a proper maintenance record, and is known among car owners for its reliability. Regarding the modifications, I would recommend sticking to what Gaurav mentioned in the above post initially and after going in a few offroad adventures to then decide if anything further is needed. In UAE, the only warranty is provided by the agency or buy Automall (where you can buy a second hand car). But the warranty is valid only if you do all the scheduled maintenance with them. Further, you would get a much better deal by buying the car from an actual car owner rather than from a dealer. Hope I have answered some of your questions. Good luck. -

Extreme Desert Drive Extreme Desert Drive is an extension of an Intermediate drive but at a lot faster pace with a continuous drive-time on big rolling and difficult dunes. The difficulty level of climbs, ridge riding, criss-crossing will be more or less the same as the Intermediate level, but doing that over and over again at high speed requires special attention to be courageous but with extreme caution. If you and your vehicle are perfectly in-sync with the Intermediate level without repetitive stuck, refusals, or losing track, then only you should consider joining this fast-paced extreme drive. This drive offers the maximum adrenaline among all the types of drives and also demands a very experienced and sensible driver with a fully protected 4x4 vehicle. In such extreme fast pace drive, it is highly recommended to drive alone without any passengers to avoid any distractions. Who can join: Selected - Intermediate and above With a minimum of 5 Intermediate drive experience. The final selection will be based on Crew and Marshals feedback. Disclaimer: The chance of damaging your vehicle is quite high in such fast-paced extreme drives, so please join at your own discretion. _________________ This drive is organized in full compliance with the COVID19 guidelines.
