what do you mean by long time consuming thing.

1000 after discount 850 i had changed the brakes and even the spark plugs so for just timing belt before he quoted me 1000 and after all this job he came down to 850

mechanic was advising me to just change the timing belt.

if i get the timing belt changed what other parts are changed with it OR what other parts can i get checked to get it changed as the Mechaninc says that the labour cost is high so i thougth its better if i can get other parts changed too
