Good idea, might wake the guy behind up a bit and make him think. Cheap too at around 20 dhs. But at the end of the day, there’s still going to be that one AH on your bumper flashing his lights thinking the right lane will open up and the 6 cars in front will magically disappear. https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Tail-Laser-Fog-Light-Rear-Anti-Collision-Driving-Safety-Signal-Warning-Lamp/302179545792?ul_ref=http%3A%2F%2Frover.ebay.com%2Frover%2F1%2F710-53481-19255-0%2F1%3Ftype%3D4%26campid%3D5336491544%26toolid%3D10001%26afsrc%3D1%26customid%3D1044X509854X75f2a0778b5fff5d2de16ed746be494f%26mpre%3Dhttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fitm%2FCar-Tail-Laser-Fog-Light-Rear-Anti-Collision-Driving-Safety-Signal-Warning-Lamp%2F302179545792%3FssPageName%3DSTRK%253AMEBIDX%253AIT%26_trksid%3Dp2057872.m2749.l2649%26srcrot%3D710-53481-19255-0%26rvr_id%3D1858942489570%26rvr_ts%3Df0f437901680ab6475e64116ffe944a0&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&_mwBanner=1&_rdt=1&ul_noapp=true

I don’t know how it is for Middle East people but growing up in the western world, John Haynes was something of a guru. Pre internet, the Haynes manuals were one of the most useful sources of information anyone could own. It was the workshop manual before the factory manual was ever available. When you bought a new car, you also bought the Haynes manual. It showed you how to strip down and rebuild your car. Had fault finding diagrams. The Haynes manual saved my ass so many times. Wherever you are now John Haynes, May your God rest your soul and thank you for saving my ass many times. If you don’t know about John Haynes, just google Haynes manual for your car. It will make your life so much easier.

Congratulations to @Gaurav bhai. First Carnity member to pass 2,000 likes! Its nice to be here and watch Carnity grow from strength to strength. I hope @Carnity buys you as nice a cake as I received for being first to 1,000. Well done bro. You deserve if for all the hard work you put in, especially all the hard work you do behind the scenes that isn’t seen.

Better just to buy some POS off Dubizzle for 5k dhs and drive it until it dies? Renting is dead money.

Should have offered to drop a new set of pistons in while he was waiting

If you’re just driving from Abu Dhabi to Dubai and back do you really need a SUV? An old Mercedes E class would be a much nicer place to sit. I’m still watching Chinese cars with interest. In the 70s and 80s everyone laughed at Japanese cars. In the 90s and 2000s everyone laughed at Korean cars. Look where they are now. Give it another 5-10 years and having a Chinese car will make you a sc3n3 king.

Ticking/clicking noise - Mitsubishi common issue?
Barry replied to Keithryan's topic in Mitsubishi Pajero Forum in UAE
Would be nice if we could see a picture of the actual part showing the hole on the end instead of a part number. Maybe is is a genuine part, but maybe it’s a NOS (new old stock) old type tappet. It’s easy to tell the difference. The old type tappets have a tiny hole that you can barely poke a piece of wire into, the newer ones have a much bigger hole that you could stick the end of a pen into. -
Does anyone else watch the stadium trucks? In the off season, some of the guys race them round tracks. Think the autodrome with skateboard ramps. Fun motorsport to watch.

If you can’t impress people with your knowledge, confuse them with your bullshit 😊

You can’t just swap parts on the throttle system. A relearn procedure needs to be completed after any work. Sometimes it’s a manual procedure, sometimes it’s done through the diagnostic tool. I would ask the mechanic if he did this. Any number of things could cause poor gas mileage. It could be spark plugs, coils, dirty air filter, anything really. Best thing to do is do a full engine scan for fault codes and repair as necessary. Check condition and functionality of all mechanical parts not included in the scan. Then you can start looking at live engine data while driving to see if/what the problem is. Another issue, if a TPS has been incorrectly fitted, ie at the wrong angle, it can cause shifting issues. The ECU isn’t getting the correct information so can’t produce the correct output. It thinks you’re on half throttle when you’re on full throttle so shifts gears early. I recommend looking for a good technician who has experience outside of doing oil changes and changing brake pads.

I tried using carnity on tapatalk for a while but I found it too clunky. It’s easier just to use the full featured website. I know where all the buttons are and everything works how it’s supposed to.

That’s one of my favourite questions. Standard answer - There’s a problem with the capacitor bank in the flip flop diode relay. I better take a look at it so I can recalibrate the resistors because, you know, the ohms are affecting the output voltage.

I was in the shower earlier, just before 15:00. Mrs Barry was screaming for me to come out and see the earthquake. Didn’t feel it at all but the lights were swinging a little bit from the roof. Did anyone else notice anything? The earthquake last year was worse. I was in al quoz. It was all over in 10 seconds. The worst thing I ever dealt with was a bit of snow but I felt like I was standing on a pancake being cooked. Why people want to move to places like New Zealand I’ll never know.

I’ve always done my own work on my cars. A couple of times I’ve had a bit of extra cash so I thought it would be nice to leave my car into the garage beside my work so I could get someone else to do it and I could just go to work, chill, walk down and collect my car and drive home. First time was a Mk3 Astra (don’t laugh), I fitted new shocks and springs all round, changed every bushing and ball joint, put it in the local garage for a steering alignment. Got the car back with the steering wheel upside down. It took them 3 days to get the steering wheel pointing straight. Second time, I needed a clutch change on a 4wd Subaru Legacy. I didn’t have time to do it myself so I dropped it in the garage on the way to work. I paid my money and picked it up on the way home. They neglected to fit 2 split pins for under 25 fils and the front wheels splayed out and the front of the car slammed on the road at 60mph. After that I swore to never let anyone touch my car again. If I break something, it’s my problem. There are plenty of good mechanics but the bad ones give the good ones a bad name.

@shadow79 @treks any comments?

Thanks for that @Carnity apparently I was Malaysian. My Malay isn’t good 😂

For me it has to be, People arguing about price. Sure, there’s a bit of discount for regular customers but if you want a good job done it costs money. It’s not just my time, it’s the cost of tools, lifts etc. These things don’t pay for themselves. It’s a business. Calling every 30 minutes to see if your car is ready. I can’t finish your car if I’m spending 3 hours a day answering the phone. I’ll call you when it’s done. Giving a diagnosis from another mechanic. I used to waste so much time chasing up stuff that the customer said another mechanic said was wrong. Sometimes it’s better just to listen to the symptoms and do your own leg work. Getting mad over breakages. Sometimes you have to remove a good part to get access to the faulty part and the good part will break. Sure some mechanics are cack handed but nobody ever thinks the parts on their car are old and brittle and will break if you touch them. It’s not always the mechanics fault. Asking to borrow tools. No. That torque wrench cost 750 dhs and just had a 6 month calibration at 300 dhs. Telling me you diagnosed your fault on google. Ok. I’m still going to plug it in and do my own proper diagnosis. If you insist on paying 2 sets of labour, ok. The customer is always right? Staring over my shoulder when I’m working. I really hate this one. If you ask me how to do something I’ll show you. If you’re staring over my shoulder, it makes me feel like you think I don’t know what I’m doing. Like you know any better? Don’t get butthurt because I’m bashing something with a hammer. I’m hitting it with a hammer because it needs to be hit with a hammer. If your car overheated and you kept on driving, just tell me. Don’t hide it. Knowing exactly what happened makes my job a lot easier and saves you money. Same with every fault, just be honest. It’s not for me, it’s for you. If I tell you what the fault is with your car, that’s the fault so believe it. I have better things to do with my time than guess and rebuild an engine 3 times. It’s not a game. If I diagnose your car, I should be the one to repair it. I see too many parts fitters here. Customer gets the fault diagosed with a reputable mechanic then goes to a hack to get parts swapped. Last one. Clean your car before you come in or at least take the trash out of it. Crawling upside down under a dashboard and rubbing my head on a carpet covered in cigarette ash and dog poop from your shoes isn’t a nice experience.

Raised air intake (snorkels) do you really need one?
Barry replied to Javier M's topic in General Discussions
Bit pointless on a petrol engine. If you go in deep enough to get the plug leads wet the car is going to stop anyway. On a diesel with a mechanical pump it makes complete sense. -
Ticking/clicking noise - Mitsubishi common issue?
Barry replied to Keithryan's topic in Mitsubishi Pajero Forum in UAE
Be careful of pattern parts v original parts. Nothing against the aftermarket, there are some amazing parts available if you know what’s going on. The new genuine Mitsubishi lifters have a big hole. Old Mitsubishi parts have a small hole. If you’re buying pattern parts, I’d recommend buying one aftermarket and one genuine and comparing them. Every man loves a big hole 😂 -
I remember way back when, where if you had a car with satnav, it was something special. Even now it is still being sold on new cars as an add on bonus. Then cheap portable satnavs like the garmin came out and made finding your way easy, even if it did direct you into a lake sometimes. In the modern day where everyone has a smartphone with google maps, waze, maps.me etc, is the day of the satnav over? Would you pay extra for a car with satnav? And if so, why?

Indeed. I’ll deport everyone and keep your cars and have all the fun to myself 😝

Worked on loads of pajeros and never seen this problem. Are you sure your wheels are balanced?

It’s a good movie if you like queen but aren’t a die hard fan otherwise you’ll spot the holes. Entertaining though. Rami is a fantastic actor. Ive seen Marc Martel on my recommended feed a few times. He’s got the voice down. His jaw is scarily Freddie looking too.

I don’t like things like this. I’ve seen people save their fines and wait for discounts. It kinda takes away from the fact you’re getting fined for breaking the law. People make mistakes but some just keep pushing and pushing the limits. Offenders should be punished and punished hard. No mercy.
