The 5 Watts or 10 Watts only relate to your broadcasting strength, not receiving strength. For optimal receiving quality, it’s the quality of the antenna and the radio in general that plays the biggest role. For broadcasting far and wide is where the 5 Watts or 10 Watts comes into play. Agree that within a convoy 5 Watts is more than plenty.

Hi @Mahesh_ very good topic you brought up! - When we created the 10 Carnity Frequencies, we wanted to make sure they are in the PMR446 range, which is the so called license-free frequency range. Doing this would avoid getting us in trouble with the authorities. Unfortunately these frequencies are indeed open for farmers and construction workers as well. However the most busy frequencies are usually 1,2,3,4. Perhaps we can start using 5,6,7,8,9,10 a bit more which should definitely help. - CTCSS codes are a nice option to use to avoid chatter on your chosen frequency, but the complexity for us to set it up is big. We regularly have new members joining us who struggle with programming their radios, and although we offer advice and help to program the most used ones, this would another layer of complexity with potential issues during the drive of not hearing each other or other broadcast issues. There used to be a time that most of our briefings were spent programming other people’s radios, and with so many different models being used this is a load that falls onto the shoulders of the marshal or lead. For that reason we decided not to use it. Worst case, Any new member that brings their radio can just type in the frequency we use, without further complications. - proper SQL or Squelch setting really does help, EXCEPT with the Baofeng UV5R which has squelch issues out of the box. For that reason there was a hack created that allows to extend the squelch way further than the original setting. It takes a laptop, CHIRP software, and 20mins of your time to install the hack. Whoever is interested let me know. - to avoid having two Carnity convoys using the same frequency, we have an internal drive planning sheet where we post the planned channel that each will use. This helps to avoid cross comms amongst channels, but sometimes we tend to forget or assume that the other convoy in a different emirate won’t hear us 😛. In reality when you are on elevated ground the signal can reach many miles.

Martin M has been promoted to Fewbie Plus level
Frederic replied to Gaurav's topic in Off-Road Club's Announcements
Congrats @Martin M ! -
Hi @Peterkk That's a serious list of errors, but to me they all point in the same direction: Low or no Voltage being supplied to the various components of the car. My first recommendations: 1. Check the battery voltage and specifically the connection terminals. 2. Do a thorough check of all grounding points. Negative terminal of the battery should be connected to the chassis properly, but there are other grounding wires that will connect to the chassis body. Inspect engine bay and underneath for any loose grounding wires. Some other questions: 1. Did this occur suddenly? Was the car involved in an accident, flooding, or what is the history of the car that brought you to this problem (did you purchase it recently for example?) 2. A typical "mechanical mechanic" won't be able to troubleshoot this. You need to either take it to a Renault dealer or someone who is used to dealing with French cars. A good car diagnostic shop could also do it, but they might not want to touch it because a Renault Safrane is quite rare in this country. If this problem suddenly appeared, then i am inclined to believe there is just an issue of loose grounding or battery terminals. A more worst case scenario is your car ECU/ECM that failed (as this unit controls most of the car's electronics). It does not happen often, but it is possible. If there has been water damage or something of that sort, then it becomes definitely a possibility.

Goodmorning @Ana I hope you are well! Unfortunately, this is a Fewbie level drive and your current level still shows Newbie, so we won't be able to accommodate you. If you like to request your promotion, you can do so by heading over to below link: Request Your Promotion Once registered, the various marshals will review it, and decision will be taken within 5-10 days. Thank you!

Any experiences with GWM Tank 500 off roading any one?
Frederic replied to Hanan's topic in General Discussions
From what i can see: GCC model is a 3.0 Turbocharged V6 and churns out a lot of power. Very impressive. I think other markets like China have a Hybrid model as well with 2.0l (electric motor+combustible engine). I wonder if these can be purchased on the grey market here. -
Any experiences with GWM Tank 500 off roading any one?
Frederic replied to Hanan's topic in General Discussions
Hi @Hanan ! I’d love to see the Tank in action and have heard generally good things about it. When it comes to Chinese made off-road vehicles we have Haval and BAIC off-roading with us on a regular basis in our off-road club and they are doing great. Feel free to join us in the off-road club or book one of our 1-on-1 desert driving masterclass, which would allow you to get personal guidance and the time to test all functionalities under the supervision and guidance of an expert. -

This was really a splendid morning out with wonderful people. Pink Rock was quite busy, but at all times @Emanuelkept us safe by keeping enough distance from the other convoys, and showcasing a smooth flow and pace, which meant hardly any refusals or stucks. Looking forward doing this again! Hats off again to @Zsolt for completing the full drive while in second gear and limited to 3krpm. That's a stunning achievement and we would never have noticed that something was wrong with the car. @Andrei S super sweeping and @essam ibrahim always ready with a smile. What a great team. See you all in the sand again.
