  3. M&M Fewbie Plus - Drive Report There is a voice that doesn't use words. Listen. Rumi Great afternoon drive, in a variety of terrains and landscapes: red sand bowls, golden technical areas, yellow sand cordons, white tall ridges, lit first in bight sunlight, then bathed in soft orange sunset glow. The red sand bowls of Margham (our first "M") are an almost secret jewel, forming a low pyramid overlooking Nazwa and Badayer's expanses. Great side sloping and flowing criss-crossing make for a perfect start of a drive. From there, turning back toward E66, requires crossing an area of tighter dunes, quite full of wild life, which finally open up close to the highway. An underpass connects the track with Lisaili's camel breeding grounds, from which the pylons lead in the direction of Solar Park. This time we entered the technical dunes, separating the pylons from the long range dunes, earlier than usual: nonetheless, we managed to reach the open dunes in no time, and from there we set our sight to the second "M", of Murqab. This segment is divided into three type of terrains: long open cordons, tighter and bushier technical dunes, and finally tall, open (yet, still bushy) long range dunes and deep bowls, close to Margham. No type of terrain proved too difficult for the convoy, and once in Murqab, with 40 minutes until sunset, we decided to extend the drive, through the "Highway to Solar Park" (the marked sand track crossing this area), back into the center of Lisaili, and from there to Solar Park. A perfect exit in front of the "Three Trees" and facing the sunset, marked the end of the drive. A perfect drive, with NO, zero, none, zilch, stucks, and just a handful of self-recovered refusals, came to an end after 83.8 Kms, covered in 3:00 hours of moving time, at an average moving speed of 28 Km/h. Thanks to @Alain Canivet-Abikhalil (perfect Second Lead), @Senthil Kumar, @PaoloMaraziti, @Hisham Masaad(spotless Center Forward), @Sunil Mathew, @darren thompson and @Alex Raptor (clean Sweep). Have a great week, and see you soon out there.
  4. Solar Park: Left or Right? - Drive Report I know you are tired, but come, this is the way - Rumi Spectacular drive, a notch up from Newbie Level, both in terms of skills as well as duration. As planned, given the quality of the convoy, we turned left from Solar Park, and moved into Lisaili's cordons. Unplanned were both the first change of direction toward Murqab, as well as the second and most unexpected dash from Murqab back to Lisaili, where we exited. The convoy, arranged in a "Senior-Junior" fashion, with each Newbie being led (and tutored, in terms of lines of approach, momentum, and exit trajectories) by a Fewbie or above, warmed up from the easier maneuvers to the more advanced techniques, until managing to progress smoothly and continuously throughout the last segment of the drive, criss-crossing and side-sloping any dune we came across. The most difficult part of the drive proved to be the technical area in the middle of Lisaili's cordons, where soft sand pockets, sharp straight crossings and little room to move, caused almost unavoidable stucks and lengthy recoveries. Overall convoy discipline was good, including the few times that premature exits from ridges split the convoy. Upon reaching Lisaili's sabkhas after 2:10 hrs of driving, we diverted toward Murqab, for our first extension of the drive. After only another 1:10 hr of driving, just outside of Murqab's village, the convoy chose to make a last dash, back toward Lisaili. This is when all the work done so far during the drive paid off, and all drivers came together to perform a blitz to Lisaili worthy of the often cited (by me) Long Range Desert Group. Only 50 minutes of impeccable driving, on very bright white sand and technical terrain, were needed to reach the long range dunes next to the pylon track, where the last acrobatics were performed, before a well earned exit. All members are worthy of the same praise: great driving by @I.M.Shousha إسلام أبوشوشة (thanks for the safe Second Lead), @Alexanderrr, @Bernard Kalaani, @Pieter Potgieter, @Santoso Marjuki, @Anoop Nair and @munkybizness. Special thanks to @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ for supporting from the center, and to @Dodi Syahdar for sweeping all to safety. The drive covered 77 Km, in 3:02 hours of driving, at an average moving speed of 25 Km/h. Thanks to all for the great participation, and see you soon in the sand.
  5. Tawi Nazwa to Big Red - Drive Report Take time like the river. Keep going and steady. No hurry, no rush. - Rumi On a terrain scarred by an infinite number of previous drives, through a multitude of convoys, the drive progressed like a river: steady, with no hurry or rush, from Tawi Nazwa to Pink Rock and beyond all the way to Big Red. Great display of patience and resilience by all Newbie drivers, with the most critical time coming in and around Pink Rock, mostly due to soft sand pockets, and the presence of too many convoys, which forced us to redirect a few times, and to choose some more challenging tracks to get around our obstacles. In terms of the more difficult maneuvers, the ascent and crossing of the mighty fossil formation was accomplished with minimum fuss and delay, and the navigation of the lower reaches of the tall dune formations toward the exit ("The Big Dune Near Big Red". and Big Red itself) went remarkably smoothly, in spite of these being the most trafficked, and marked, parts of the drive. Convoy discipline, on which we insisted during the briefing was excellent, as was the application of all technical skills throughout the drive. Everybody drove progressively better, improving their feeling with their vehicles, and learning from their previous mistakes, if any were made. A very commendable performance by all members: @Felix Obst, @Daniel Fernandez, @Simon Hope, @Ramandbx, @Mohamad Anwer, @Daniel Rodas and @Mikhail Lukichev with a virtually clean score, followed by @Gerrit Bus, @Ferl Brown and @Jins John, who managed to overcome the challenges they encountered throughout the drive. Very well done by everybody. Special thanks to @Alfred Alinazar for his well executed Second Lead, and especially to @Alexander Alcalafor his tireless efforts at supporting the front part of the convoy, as well as to @Jeepie Marijan, returning to the sand with an excellent Sweep. Congrats to all for completing 35 km, driven in 1:33 of moving time, at an average moving speed of 22 Km/h. Thanks to all for coming. I share all your best wishes with @Vanessa8580, for her prompt recovery and return to the sand. See you soon out there.

  8. Dear Desertnauts. A couple of very short notes, prior to this Saturday's Left or Right drive. First, there is still 2 open spots in the drive roster: anyone who feels like joining (@Naim Aoun ??) is welcome. Secondly, and more importantly, given the list of members joining the drive, I feel I should turn LEFT, and head from Solar Park to Lisaili, on a the slightly more challenging terrain. Having said this, I welcome @I.M.Shousha إسلام أبوشوشة, @Alexanderrr, @Bernard Kalaani, @Pieter Potgieter, @Br. San, @Santoso Marjuki, @Fabien Monleau, @munkybizness, @Roy Armale, @Dodi Syahdar and @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ, welcome to the drive. I'll be back tomorrow with the final convoy order. In the meantime, enjoy your end of the week.

  11. @Roy ArmaleI added to the drive. Thanks No worries @varunmehndiratta. We have room. Thanks Hi @Naim Aoun. There is still 1 spot in the drive, if you feel like taking it. Thanks.
  12. Dear Desertnauts. Just a few info from my side, after taking Vanessa's place at the lead, due to her suffering from a bad back which has forced her to stay at home ( @Vanessa8580, best wishes to get well soon!!). Tawi Nazwa to Pink Rock has been the scene of one of my first Newbie drives with Carnity. Since then, as a leader, I have not driven often in this area, so this will be a welcome return for me on the beautiful red sands of this part of UAE desert. The drive will also provide me, and the convoy, with the opportunity to do a bit of exploring, on the way to Pink Rock and beyond, in search of the exit point, which may either be 2 December Cafeteria, or even Big Red, depending on the convoy's behavior. We will proceed on likely soft sand patches, in rather technical terrain, where finesse driving will prevail (soft touches of the gas pedal, alternated to stronger bursts to exit soft bowls). Convoy discipline, in this technical terrain, will be paramount, as members will have to maintain the right distance between each other, to make sure obstacles are cleared before tackling them, and any refusal or stuck does not lead to another one, by the drivers just behind. @Alfred Alinazar, @Felix Obst, @Gerrit Bus, @Daniel Fernandez, @Ferl Brown, @Jins John, @Simon Hope, @Ramandbx, @Mohamad Anwer, @Super Safari Girl, @Daniel Rodas, @Mikhail Lukichev, welcome to the drive. Convoy order will be given out tomorrow. @Jeepie and @Alexander Alcala, thanks for joining in support. Looking forward to seeing you all on Friday morning.
  13. Dear Desertnauts. Nice to get back to our Midweek drives. In line with such past drives, we'll look into a route which mixes parts of other tracks, connecting dots to draw a new itinerary, carved especially for our afternoons' explorations. The meeting point will be off the road connecting E66 and E44, just past Margham's village (our first "M"), through an open fence, on the left side of the road. From there we'll launch into the red sand bowls overlooking Nazwa (to the eastern side), then we'll turn back to cross the technical dunes in the direction of Lisaili. Once completed this first half of the drive, we'll cross underneath E66, to reach Lisaili's long range dunes and eastern sabkhas, and from there we'll search for the gap through more tight cordons that will allow us to arrive in Murqab (our other "M"). The convoy is quite experienced, and will line up as follows: @Alain Canivet-Abikhalil in Second Lead @Aus Alzubaidi in #3 place @Senthil Kumar will be #4 @PaoloMaraziti at #5 @Hisham Masaad in Center Forward @Sunil Mathew will be #7 @Rawad at #8 @darren thompson will drive at #9, while @Alex Raptor will Sweep. The meeting time has been set at 2:30 PM, in light of slightly lower temperatures and shorter days. Please reach the meeting point a bit earlier, so we can move speedily. The radio channel will be chosen on the spot. Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow. Have a nice evening.

Drive Details Level: Newbie and above (all levels) Meeting time: 6:00 AM (SHARP - Without any exceptions) Meeting Point: https://maps.app.goo.gl/5nVsM5gJRN6EYMWP8 Action Plan: We know we plan to start from Solar Park. This time, however, whether we'll take a right direction toward Qudra, on an "easier" track, or left toward Lisaili, on a more challenging track, will depend on the composition of the convoy. It will be you, who sign up, to determine the composition, and experience, of the convoy. A more experienced convoy will be led toward Lisaili, a more junior one will head toward Qudra. In both cases, the drive will provide the proper challenge for all. Type of Car: Any proper 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 8-10 inches of ground clearance. What to bring along: Loads of water, snacks (for yourself), smiles, face mask, rubber gloves, enthusiasm and willingness to learn. Approximate finish time: 10:00 AM P.S.
