  1. Carnity 2: Lisali 1 Conquering the technical dunes quickly this morning meant we were able to enjoy a number of the long dune ranges in Lisali before returning in the direction of Solar Park/Qudra and in between we covered quite some ground, some more challenging than other. For me, the biggest problem in teh second half of the drive was that we faced very bright, white sand which at times made finding the way quite a challenge. I was pleased we got the chance to try out a little ridge riding and some criss crossing exercises. The more you do that, the more natural it becomes and the more you enjoy the drive. This sort of play time in a safe environment is really essential and everyone really handled it well. Pretty much everyone got stuck at one point or other today - which I reckon puts the level of the drive at just about right. Not too easy, not too hard. Yes, we did not spend the whole drive moving, but that's what fewbie is there to do: challenge you. If it was all plain sailing over nice high dunes anyone could do it. this type of drive sets you up for safe drives as you gain more and more confidence and experience. And there was the additional lesson on pop outs! We were being chased by @Rahimdad the whole of our route, and ironically, he found us while we exited having enjoyed a lot of the same terrain we enjoyed, because he was following the breadcrumbs we left for him. @Lisa Pemberton - I was on your first ever drive with Carnity and to see the development and way you handle the car: chapeau! @Vineeth John Joseph - well done in the Xterra. A little less power on the pedal. That finesse will help in the future. @Kailas - A SWB Jeep is a treasure on drives like this with technical stuff. Well handled today. @Jeandre Bezuidenhout - First time as CF and a great job, calm, collected and in most cases handling the recoveries correctly. @Jun Zamora - it's clear this is becoming a way of life for you as you said. I see improvements every time. @Tamas Hoffmann - more mometum. I know you only have a 3L but you can give it a bit more to stop the cresting. @Mehmet Volga - your previous tecnical lesson really paid off, because that was no challenge for you today. I see the growth and development each time you drive. @Islam Soliman - the leader of the Tank brigade today. You handled being at the back of the convoy really well. Of course it's more challenging, but you never let it frustrate you and that's essential for better driving. @luwaimn - well done keeping up with the pace today. As I see it, most of the stucks came from not using enough of the power in that beast you drive. Second in the tank brigade you did a great job. @Lorenzo Candelpergher - double dipping today: new tires and 1st time as sweep. You probably did more recoveries than anyone today and kept us all in order from the back of the convoy perfectly. Yes, the feel of the new rubber is quite different, but a coule of drives and that will be over. And of course, last but by no means least @Jeepie brillaint support and 2nd lead (we really need an experienced lead for Lisali). Got me out of more than one sticky situation and handled everything with calm authority as usual. My apologies for being the cause for so much sand in your shoes. What else? Well, a first for me, being buzzed by a paraglider. I think I found my next hobby. Also a last for me: that was the last time for the extended pre drive briefing - sorry if you did not pay attention, I did warn you. A great way to start the weekend. See you soon in the sand.
  2. Hi @Mohamed Seidam all the seniors understand the challenge of the 7pm rush for spaces which is why we have a wait list for drives. You are not, and did not request to be on the wait list. Even if we could extend drive numbers there are three people in the list ahead of you. On this specific drive I will not take responsibility as drive lead to add numbers to the convoy. There is a highly technical element at the start of this drive. @Gaurav @Srikumar and @Rahimdad the Carnity crew do everything possible to list as many drives as possible each week. Please do keep in mind, we are volunteers and each week we plan one or two drives so that the club members can enjoy the same passion we all have. We do everything we can to accommodate as many people as possible. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
  3. Congrats @Mohamed Seidam. Look forward to the chance to drive with you soon.
  4. Congrats @AviG looking forward to a chance to drive with you soon.
  5. Hi @Frederic this is as ever a useful addition to the available info for drivers. Yes, I have a premuim edition of Gaia and 'invested' in this because there is a small element of added functionality - there's the ability to edit routes, overlay routes and if you're in North America it looks like it wil actually do the walking for you on the hikes.
  6. THIS DRIVE HAS NOW CLOSED Please see below the convoy numbering for the drive tomorrow morning in Al Lisali Evening Fewbie Desert Drive Pink Rock 4 Sept 2020 Attendees Level Car Radio Pos # Wrangeld Expert Mitsubishi Pajero SWB Y 1 Lead Jeepie Fewbie Jeep Wrangler Y 2 2nd lead Lisa Pemberton Fewbie Mitsubishi Pajero LWB Y 3 Vineeth John Joseph Fewbie Nissan Xterra Y 4 Kailas Fewbie Jeep Wrangler SWB Y 5 Jeandre Bezuidendhout Fewbie Jeep Wrangler SWB Y 6 CF Jun Zamora Fewbie Jeep Wrangler Y 7 Tamas Hoffmann Fewbie Mitsubishi Pajero LWB Y 8 Mehmet Volga Fewbie Mitsubishi Pajero LWB 9 Islam Soliman Fewbie GMC Yukon Y 10 luwaimn Fewbie Toyota Landcruiser Prado Y 11 Lorenzo Candelpergher Fewbie Nissan Patrol Y62 12 SW The start point of the drive is on tarmac, on the road that runs round the Camel Track. Please be careful when you arrive in the dark, the Camles are out training and (surprise, surprise) don't have lights. Our route takes us up a long track until we find the entry point into the technical part of the drive. Once through that technical area we can enjoy some nice wide and quite high dunes. Depending on convoy response, we will return to Lisali or make our way all the way to last exit at Qudra. Please make sure you are prepared for tomorrow. Gear, mindset and punctuality. WE WILL BE USING CARNITY RADIO CHANNEL 4. If there are any questions, please let me know. If there is a reason you will not be able to come, please let me know. Otherwise, see you soon in the sand.
  7. Vinod @Tbone so pleased for you to get this promo. I know you've been honing your skills helping newbies recently and this is just reward for your abilities, efforts and contribution. We are lucky to have you in the club. Looking forward to your first lead.
  8. Good morning Friday Four by Fourers @Kailas, @Lisa Pemberton, @Tamas Hoffmann, @Islam Soliman, @Jeandre Bezuidenhout, @Mehmet Volga, @luwaimn, @Lorenzo Candelpergher, @Vineeth John Joseph, @Jorge Stepniak Felippe, @Jeepie, (reserve list: @Jun Zamora, @Miguel Ibarbia, @Hennie Schoeman, @Sreejith Sreenivasan) As yet, there are no drop outs from the drive - so reserve list, please keep looking. You will take up places according to your waitlist requests if anyone does drop out at the last minute: it is not unheard of! What to Expect #1: Pace - after we cross the technical dunes in Lisali there are big wide dunes on which to practice al sorts of techniques and the terrain allows for gathering up some speed. If you are at the end of the convoy, prepare for the concertina effect, which means you will need to be travelling even faster to catch up. What to Expect #2: Complexity of dune crossing. As we move into Fewbie territory we want to be moving from straight up and over crossing (still important and required) to more criss crossing. This is where a lot of people get stuck. I will be looking for opportunities to practice this during the drive. What to bring: Clear head, enthusiasm and a thinking head. Fewbie is not just about following someone in front it's about starting to make more of your own decisions about momentum of your vehicle, altering the line by a few centimeters, managing your own performance. Convoy numbering and further details will be published when the drive closes tomorrow morning. See you soon in the sand. Hi @Jorge Stepniak Felippe a shame for you, but we all understand. Step froward Mr @Jun Zamora Jun, please exit from the other drives so that this opens up a space for someone else.
  9. More than happy to come to Ajman - had my windscreen reparied there recently at a great price. Can you share your mobile. Maybe I will come this afternoon.
  10. Hi @Jun Zamora yes, myself, @Emmanuel and @Srikumar all applaud your enthusiasm and it is clear that if a place comes available you will vacate the place in the Newbie drive. Once you get the bug, we all understand that you want to drive as much and as often as possible. The Lisali drive in particular, because of the need to get through the technical range, is not one where I will extend the convoy. It is only Monday and normally there are one or two drop outs during the week, so keep looking in and up to date with the attendee list.
  11. Does anyone know a metal working shop that can fabricate something I designed? @Barry - know anyone with a bit of metal and some welding equipment?
  12. HI Jun, Your request is clear. I note you were successful on getting a place in another drive, but that this is your preferred option. Let's see how the week develops and if all the other drivers remain in the list. In my experience, there are one or two fall out for unexpected reasons.
  13. Congratulations @asifk - now you're really going to have to work out how to use that manual option on the Pajero: but there's no doubt that your performance in the drives and how you are constantly looking for ways to help people out when in trouble demonstrates just how deserving you are of this elevation in level at Carnity. I am looking forward to many more opportunities to drive with you in the coming months.
  14. Mr. @Shiju Manuel from the first drives at Carnity where you were a little tentative to seeing you scale the heights and slopes in recent weeks, the development in your driving has been fantastic to watch. I am delighted for you that you reached this level within Carnity, which is totally deserved. I look forward to watching your continued development and growth in the club and driving with you on many more drives. This is a really pleasing promotion.
  15. Good morning Desert Fewbies, @Kailas, @Lisa Pemberton, @Tamas Hoffmann, @Islam Soliman, @Jeandre Bezuidenhout, @Mehmet Volga, @luwaimn, @Lorenzo Candelpergher, @Vineeth John Joseph, @Jorge Stepniak Felippe, @Jeepie, (reserve list: @Jun Zamora, @Miguel Ibarbia, @Hennie Schoeman, @Sreejith Sreenivasan) For some of you, this will be our first Fewbie drive together, for some, we already ventured out into the sand before. @Lorenzo Candelpergher and @Mehmet Volga had the 'ignominious' pleasure of attending the last Lisali adventure - so have an idea of the potential perils of this area as well as the potential fun, when we get it right. Not many Fewbie drives start in Lisali because there is a treacherous, technical set of dunes that must be crossed before we hit the incredible wide high dunes hidden behind. The rewards, once we pass the technical dunes are the ability to drive all the way from Lisali to the long dunes of Qudra, time and convoy permitting. The landscape is stunning, and unlike so many of the areas we drive at the moment, has little in the way of vegetation, so we can enjoy a fast pace and high sweeping dunes where we can practice slide sloping and criss crossing to our hearts' content all the way to Solar Park and beyond. It is my hope that we can use this drive to practice and hone some dune crossing techniques. We will remind you that straight up and over is still an option as well as looking at ways to practice some criss crossing and ridge riding. Those technical dunes - if we get it right, we are all over them quickly and without too much drama (Lorenzo and Mehmet, I have a new tried and tested route through so do not worry we are going the same way), but I do want to stress that learning how to navigate through technical dunes is an incredibly important skill in 4x4 driving. We will not always have easy tracks and wide dunes in which to play. Which translates to, if we do get stuck, then fine, we will find our way out and you will get valuable lessons on an important skill. As ever, there will be more updates during the week on what to expect and the convoy make up. Finally, a request made on behalf of the 4 people sitting in the waiting list: If you are not coming to the drive, let us know early so that the club members whose fingers or mouse was not as quick as yours, can get a drive. See you soon in the sand.
  16. @Ashok chaturvedi congrats on the promotion. Looking forward to driving with you again soon.
  17. Wonderful news @Kalahari I am delighted for you. This means I can support your drives now 😄 which will be an absolute pleasure. You're an impressive addition to the senior ranks from whom all the drivers in the club can learn and take your example. See you soon in the sand
  18. @Barry, when I create my classic garage collection, the Interceptor FF will be front and centre. This has been for years my dream car and I promise you I can hear the Jensen engine note thrumming away from 200 meters. Can only imagine that this has new plates because of the modifications (I guess that the VIN was not used?) because this one does not look totally original. They have kept that unique back window which is a complete design masterpiece in my view. Thanks for sharing the photo - amazing how small it looks next to that Q7. As a kid I thought that the Jensen was absolutely massive!
  19. Well deserved @Chaitanya D as we have seen how since you got that Xterra everythign has just fallen into place and your driving has taken off. The interest in how to do the recoveries, the commitment to assist: it's all there and completely appropriate that you should be recognized in this way. Looking forward to supporting one of your drives soon.
  20. Massive congratulations @Vanessa8580 and one of the most deserved promotions because of your commitment and incredible capability behind the wheel. You've been putting in the hours on the Newbie drives, which is the proving ground for the best contributors in this community and they have all benefitted from the patience and calm you bring to any situation where help is needed. I am delighted to think that you will soon be leading drives and showing just how fantastic a leader you are and I for one cannot wait to support you on a drive soon. You are a fantastic addition to the seniors pool.
  21. @Hennie Schoeman Massive congrats on the promo. Look forward to a drive with you soon.
