Trip Report - Drive with a loopy end Thank you everyone for joining in for this afternoon drive starting off Al ain road to Margham on Friday. Most of you were ahead of me when I arrived to the deflation point and ready which was a great testament how you all are eager to ride on sand. We had to wait for one member who was slightly delayed but made it by the time we did briefing and started off on the pylon tracks towards Margham. After driving few minutes on the pylon tracks, we were onto the dunes - immediately some which were nice and playable ,medium range with hard sand. We did our bit of side sloping in a safe manner one after other taking turns , and each one you impressed how well you were in control of it considering it was a fewbie drive. As you do more drives and progress further ,I am sure you will look back upon these as "very easy". For your information this was my first totally independent drive , and hence I was making it very sure I was not crossing any of the fenced areas and the restricted areas in this region especially where we drove on flat sand/hard mud called Sabkhas. Many of you might have wondered why I was going on flat ground when we had so many nice looking dunes around, but I hope now you are convinced with the reason. We had to negotiate a bit of technical area which everyone of you did really well, except few refusals. Once we were clear of these obstacles and reached the bowls in Margham, we did pick up pace and did may loops - fast paced ones after the first recce for you to get a feel and on the second loop everyone did pick up pace and really did a fantastic drive. It was great to watch the whole convoy moving in unison. By the time everyone was enjoying these loops, it was getting dark and we had to head towards exit. We took the easiest way out to reach Margham - Al Ain road and hit tarmac where we inflated and bid a bye - a short one considering its a long holiday next weekend starting Thursday. @Ilya Golubinsky was my 2nd lead in his wrangler and a perfect job, keeping distance and minor rerouting. As you progress you will become more used to this and reroute better than the lead. @Sinol in his Pajero LWB was driving well except for few refusals. As you do more drives you will getter better at using your gears and learn to self recover from refusals most of the times. Remember that pressing gas is not a solution to get out of refusals/stuck. Low RPM and the steering is your best friend most of the times.Well driven buddy. @Mukundan Nair in his Xterra drove well with hardly any issues which was great. You have a great car which is a perfect offroader for any level of drive. Keep doing it and you will get more better if not the best. @Ali Abas Ali in his 4runner was impressive with his beast. Great car which is so popular among overlanding groups ,but you drove it really well on sand. Perfect control during side slopes and in the bowls was a treat to watch. @Ajiesh George Kannankara I started my Carnity tryst with a Y62 patrol, the only difference being it was white. Seeing many patrols coming along in the group I wonder at times if I should bring it back on sand and enjoy the comfort and space it has to offer with loads of power and torque. You drove it well, but remember to switch off some cylinders with precise pedal control and it will perform much better. @Anish S was my center forward with his Pajero. Having driven with you many a times, your sheer presence on some drives is so reassuring that things will be taken care of even more so with your copilot being in company.Well done my friend. @Gok Krish in his SWB Wrangler was getting a feel of the fewbie drives, and it will get more interesting ,involving and thrilling from here.You have a great car which can perform wonderfully on any terrain, well driven ! @Kailas with his pal in front, driving SWB wrangler drove confidently. After watching you in previous drives I must say you are getting better with each drive . Well done. @Shaaz Sha was the last among the wrangler SWB bunch , driving well . In fact all the three of your riding SWB wranglers hardly had any issues which is great. Well controlled driving during the sideys and in bowls was fantastic. @topgear with his little copilot helping during deflation and inflation ,riding his FJC enjoyed this drive doing the sideys and the tricky areas with great control. We do share a common thing that our little monsters accompany us 😜. Well driven buddy. @Desert Dweller was our master rescuer, tugging twice when the car which was supposed to recover another car got stuck, One of them being myself. Fantastic to have your support helping everyone in the convoy, thank you. Some Stats from the drive: Avg Moving speed - 18.6 Kmph Max Speed - 52.5 Kmph Moving time - 1hr 56 min Total time - 2hr 48 min Total distance - 35.7 Km Well I hope you all had a good time and will come back next weekend for another adventurous outing. TRIP REPORT: Fabulous bunch who enjoyed – the superman style. Thanks to everyone for being on time and getting ready for a “funtastic” day. My report comes after a perfectly etched response from @Rahimdad, and I hope I can keep you interested further to read it. We started along the camel track, finding an easier entry through the technical area. Once in the technical area I expected some cares to find it tough going through here but only few refusals there made me realize that I had a fabulous bunch of drivers who were willing to step up if I pushed them further. We were off the technical area in quick time and onto our “honeymoon”. One has to believe that we drove , and drove we did that the first break we took- hold on ,not a break but a pause to make sure all were enjoying was roughly at about 90 min when we were on a planer small Sabkha. That is where our “honeymoon” discussion sprung up to cheer everyone. We did innumerable ridge riding, crisscrossing and sideys, for you to have a visual feel have a look at the map The noodle like trail shows us that we drove most of the long-range dunes which Lisaili has on offer. Everyone in the convoy drove exceptionally well, and there were hardly any radio coms while doing these. Well done everyone! Once we cleared out longish honeymoon, we were onto another technical area where we had one pop out fixed in quick time. Everyone followed the COVID regulations and precautions during this break which was commendable how responsible you all were. After this brief interruption , we were into another area of “honeymoon” albeit a bit short as we were on time and had to look for an exit sooner considering that we almost drove for close to 4 hours and just as you all know good things always come to an end- a bit too early. How everyone performed has been beautifully described by @Rahimdad, I concur on all. It was indeed a fabulous bunch who took every terrain and challenge thrown at them. @Nivin did exceptionally well as 2nd lead in his xterra, and he was your defacto leader correcting my mistakes . Everyone in the convoy followed his tracks. @Nizam Deen is getting more confident with his amazing prado, your car has the capability for a perfect off road trip. Well done buddy. @jodha singh shekhawat , can say we share the same car (Xterra) and were on same terrain. You had no issues managing even in technical terrains which is great. @marks was my center forward in his FJC and very helpful in recovering cars with tugs, even in trcky technical terrains. You have a great attitude to help which is wonderful. @Mehmet Volga was in the rear half of the convoy with his LWB Pajero, never really struggled . Great to see how you were handling your car on sideys and ridges. Well done . @Jorge Stepniak Felippe with his SWB wrangler manual is showing great progress and knocking to get into the next level. I personally adore your open top SWB car which is a dreamcar to have in this weather. @Craig Finlayson in his LWB wrangler was again driving so well, hardly heard asking for any help/assistance. Great to have you in my convoy buddy. @Nabil Bishara in his SWB wrangler drove well, managing all the challenges aplomb. Being towards the end of the convoy is always a challenge as you have to adjust your tracks to avoid using the churned up sand ahead, but you did well mate. @Foxtrot Oscar was my sweep in her Xterra, always keeping the whole bunch lively with her humor and encouragement. As a lead , it takes off your burden and also makes you feel you have someone capable to handle issues if any at the back. Well done! @Rahimdad was my flying sweep, a late addition to the drive and what a blessing to have. His presence at the back really gave me the confidence to push myself and everyone in this area where some patches are extremely technical, and baby dunes which look like a baby but for sure will suck your car like quick sand. I was able to avoid most of them, but Rahimbhais presence made me do it with ease. Thank you Superman! Thank you everyone! I have been liking driving and exploring be it on tarmac or off it since I got my license . Off roading and desert driving with Carnity, its Marshals , Experts and all supporting senior members has been a memorable experience not to forget all the drivers who join every week to explore the desert. We will venture into a less explored part of the desert through an area where we can have lot of fun albeit safely. Drive details: Location – on Al Ain road exactly on other side of Lisaili. We will drive through this part if desert heading towards Lahbab and then towards Margham , finally exiting somewhere there along the road connecting Margham to Al Ain Rd or further. Climate – Expect it to be warm to hot as we are starting at 3pm to make the best of day light before exit. Plan to exit before dark.(sunset 5.44pm, manageable twilight for upto 30 min more) . Terrain – Small to Medium Dunes,long range, minimal plantation and bushes. Nonetheless there can be areas which will be technical needing your full attention and finesse. Considering the fewbie level of the convoy we will be going at a leisurely pace with safe sloping, ridge riding and crossing at times. There are some nice and safe play areas ,some of you have already seen . Please make sure your cars are in perfect condition as we are starting when it will be warm to hot and hence possibility of engines/transmission heating up is always there .In any case keep informed and communicate on the Radio. See up close – Camel farms, Falconers, Gazelles and oryx. Exit - towards Margham or Al ain road depending on the response of the convoy and how much distance we cover. See you all on friday!
