  1. Good afternoon Desert Explorers, Thank you for joining this drive and for being on time. You all drove very well through challenging technical dunes that Freddie chose to warm us up and then onwards to some taller dunes as we made our way east towards the foxes den. We had some refusals that were mostly dealt with easily and provided some practice for newer Fewbie's. During this first part of the drive the fog started getting thicker the further we were going into the desert before starting to burn off about an hour later. We had an exciting and challenging stuck with @Soap who had started slipping off a ridge and ended up in a pocket. He did the correct thing and exited the ridge though it was into this nasty predicament. It was a good learning opportunity on winches and how to safely straighten the car to then be able to self recover the rest of the way. Incremental progress back and forth requires patience and control not to over throttle. The technique also helped @Zahid Sharif later on. Thank you @Frederic for supporting me on this partial lead. Always a pleasure and a learning experience to drive with you. Also thanking @Zed for Center Forward. You made life so much better for Fred and I today on this challenging drive. Thank you @Zulfikhar Naiyar for Sweep. Good communication kept me informed about the convoy progress and movements. Special shoutout to our first time Fewbie drivers - @Soap, @Zahid Sharif, and @Herman G. Congratulations. You all did very well and this continued as we picked up the pace and difficulty. Have a great weekend and see you next time.
  2. Good evening Desert Explorers, The convoy order will be Fred leading with me in partial lead under Fred's guidance and support. This is my third partial lead and I'm excited to be leading this drive and with many familiar faces, seasoned support, and several experienced drivers. Thereafter in the convoy, we have increasing levels of total number of drives and rank towards the back where we have a lot of talented drivers and with the Imran in Centre Forward and Zulfikhar in Sweep. @Frederic in Lead @Emanuel in Second Lead and partial lead @Soap in spot 3 @Zahid Sharif in spot 4 @Herman G in spot 5 @Zsolt in spot 6 @Zed in Center Forward @Jose Luis Campos in spot 8 @Johannes Roux in spot 9 @Andrei S in spot 10 @J-P L in spot 11 @Zulfikhar Naiyar in Sweep L Frederic 1999 Isuzu Trooper - Green Crew 281 2L Emanuel Partial Lead The White Rhino Advisor 94 3 Soap 2023 Toyota Prado - 5 door - White Fewbie 6 4 Zahid Sharif 2024 - Prado 250 White Fewbie 7 5 Herman G 2019 Toyota FJ Cruiser - grey Fewbie 7 6 Zsolt 2014 Jeep Wrangler 2 door Fewbie 18 CF Zed Black LC100 V8 2002 Intermediate 113 8 Jose Luis Campos Mitsubishi Pajero, 2020 LWB 3.8L, White&black Fewbie Plus 26 9 Johannes Roux 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser - White Fewbie Plus 30 10 Andrei S Grey FJ 2015 Intermediate 55 11 J-P L 2021 Suzuki Jimny 3 Door Grey Intermediate 63 SW Zulfikhar Naiyar 2014 Nissan XTerra OR - Silver 2014 LC 200 - Golden Intermediate 76 We will use Carnity Channel 4, which is 446.081. 3. Happy belated congrats @J-P L. Can't wait to see you crushing IM with the Jimny.
  4. Congrats @Herman G. You are so correct, we have something special here in our club. The members, crew and support teams make it fun and welcoming. Whenever I finish a drive I'm already thinking about the next one. Who'll be there, where will it be and what adventures will we experience together.
  5. Congratulations @Jessica Lambert. Very well deserved and looking forward to driving with you again soon.
  6. Good afternoon, Thank you for joining this drive, for your attentiveness, and feedback. All of which were very much appreciated. This was my second time leading a convoy and it was an amazing experience. You all drove extremely well through a variety of terrains. We had minor refusals and successful reattempts though these were few in numbers. Everyone showed up early, which is always appreciated especially now it's getting hot out there. We started with a briefing and then entered the sands with Fred leading until we reached Pink Rock. Once we got to Pink Rock we took a short break and watched two other clubs playing on the long hill climbs just south of the usual PInk Rock crossing. There were several examples of unsafe driving practice for us to talk about. At this point, I began leading the convoy. We easily crossed Pink Rock and then made our way to Camel Hill where we went down and up and around again a couple of times before moving on. We played in a couple of patches of medium sized dunes before staring to make our way to Little Red and Big Red, where we went up and down a few times and played around on the top while minding the other clubs in the area. We exited at the usual point along the E44 and the Desert Adventures operator camps. Thank you @Frederic for your guidance and support on this drive. Very much appreciated. Also, thanks to @Andrei S for Sweeping to make sure we were all together and accounted for. It was great to meet you again @Zsolt and @essam ibrahim. You both drove well today. @Zsolt hopefully there are easy fixes for the traction control and ABS disablement and a fix for your gearing issue. Have a great weekend everyone. Here is our route and some stats from our drive today. We covered an amazing 51 km in 3 hours which is pretty good for a FB drive. The elevation profile shows some decent amount of dune explorations and some really nice hill climbs.
  7. I just saw he withdrew. It will be a fast moving tight convoy tomorrow for maximum effect. 😁
  8. Good evening, It will be a fun drive tomorrow. Fred will be leading the drive initially and then I'll lead it for the remainder of the drive under his guidance and support. Given the convoy length and experience of the drivers we will not have a Center Forward and we'll have Andrei in Sweep. @Frederic in Lead @Emanuel in Second Lead and partial lead @Zsolt in position 3 @essam ibrahim in position 4 @Andrei S in Sweep We will use Carnity Channel 4, which is 446.081. Get lots of rest and see you in the morning. Updated the convoy order as I see @Glenn W has withdrew.
  9. Interesting fact: @Johannes Roux had the pleasure of driving with each of us (@Ishak @Luke K P and me) on our very first partial lead drives.
  10. Good evening, Thank you for joining this drive, for your attentiveness, patience and feedback. All of which were very much appreciated. This was my first time leading a convoy and it was an amazing experience once we hit the sand. You all drove extremely well and I'm fortunate to have had you on this inaugural lead drive. We had minor refusals and successful reattempts though these were few in numbers. Everyone showed up on time, which is always appreciated especially now it's getting hot out there. We started with a briefing and then entered the sands following a south and westerly route towards Sweihan though our planned exit point was Nahel Pumping Station. We started with some warm-up dunes and then crossed a usual track in order to get to the wonderful stretch of mostly clean dunes ranging in heights from medium to a few tall ones. We enjoyed some bowls, ridges and tall hill climbs and then played for a while in a technical patch before resuming our direction back to Sweihan. We then took a Sabkha route to a sand track leading us out to the Nehel Pumping Station. Thank you @Looper for your guidance and support on this drive. Very much appreciated. Also, thanks to @J-P L for a strong Centre-Forward and to @Aser for Sweeping to make sure we were all together and accounted for. You had great communication with me regarding the status of the rear. It was great to meet you @Diego and @Johannes Roux. Welcome to Carnity. You both drove really well today! With much experience already, @vinayak n, @Abhishek Chikara, and @ChrisW allowed me to focus on my first lead. See you on my next partial lead drive next Saturday with @Frederic. Have a great week everyone! Here is our route and some stats from our drive today. We covered an amazing 45km in 3 hours which is pretty good for a FB drive. The elevation profile shows some decent amount of dune explorations and some really nice hill climbs.
  11. Good evening, The convoy order will see me leading the drive under @Looper's guidance and support. This is my first partial lead and I'm excited for the opportunity. Thereafter in the convoy, we have increasing levels of total number of drives and rank towards the back where we have a lot of talented drivers with the JP in Centre Forward and Benje in Sweep. @Emanuel Lead @Looper 2nd Lead @Diego at #3 @Paul Eldho at # 4 @vinayak n at # 5 @J-P L at Centre Forward @Johannes Roux at # 7 @Abhishek Chikara at # 8 @ChrisW at # 9 @Aser at Sweep See you all tomorrow morning and get lots of rest.
  12. Hey @ChrisW I only have 1 m in my name. Common mistake to put two but we have had a member with 2 m's so those tags go to him. FYI
  13. Also feeling grateful for having found Carnity after my first off road club experience. They were not particularly supportive of new drivers or safety conscious. My wife and I both found Carnity was spot on for a supportive community and safety consciousness.
  14. Grateful for the opportunity to advance under the training and support of @Gaurav and with my friends @Ishak and @Luke K P. Absolutely an eye opening set of experiences of the Technical, Mechnical, and Psychological dimensions.
  15. Pumped after this weekends training and real life limp vehicle recovery application!
  16. Lovin the detailed feedback Mike. Thank you.
  17. Hey Mike, is this still working out for you?
  18. You can down shift from 2nd just at that sweet spot when you begin to lose momentum. Just ease up on the gas when shifting and let 1st take hold then give it gas.
  19. She will come around in parallel with your skill development. I got all the way to intermediate with my 3.5 LWB and she was brilliant once I learned how to drive her in the desert. She was stock except for the front and rear skid plates and AT tires. One point I noticed from the 2013 3.5 and switching to the 2020 3.8 is my 1st gear has a shorter range and I've had to relearn how to time shifting, extra momentum at the bottom of a hill climb, and to time a shift to 2nd or ease up on the gas just a bit to prevent the system from kicking in to dial back the power. Having spoken with @Aser about his diff gear change I will research if this is possible for my Pajero to give me more power on the low end of 2nd or a bit more runway at the top of 1st.
