  1. Congratulations @Alain Canivet-Abikhalil ! Well deserved and keep enjoying the sand! 😎
  2. @Islam Soliman - I've joined the drive, apologies for the last minute RSVP.
  3. @Lorenzo Candelpergher - noted and thank you for letting us know and find alternatives. Take care and hope all is well with you and your family. Kindest regards.
  4. @Chaitanya D a saw scaled viper spotted this morning in Al Qudra by someone who goes there a lot. This person often shares images of the fauna he comes across with, snakes are not frequent in his posts which makes this an interesting one: https://www.instagram.com/p/CTgPw3apSdS/ ... on a side note it looks like the killer ants don't mind getting close to these vipers 😆
  5. ...and this puts a stop to my 4L experiment 🤣 This is what the Y61 manual says: "4L - (4WD, low range) Four wheels are driven. Use when climbing or descending steep hills, or during driving in sand, mud or deep snow. The "4L" position provides maximum power and traction. Avoid raising vehicle speed excessively, as the maximum speed in 5th gear is approximately 50 km/h (30 MPH)."
  6. Hi - Geolandar went out of stock for a while so I chose Coopers Disco. AT3 4S. In my opinion, these are heavy tires and I could feel the change. Wheels: I installed new rims with bead locks, with a positive outcome of being able to experiment with low pressures. Bead locks, I hear, reduce the probability of pop-outs. If you change to tires bulkier than the Bridgestone Dueler H/Ts then check they don't rub much of the fender inner liner. My recommendation is you look at suspension (springs, shocks and bump stops), wheels and tires as a whole system. Hope this helps.
  7. Luckily it was not, job was completed during the week in time for my drive in Sweihan, and am glad to report that there was no Patrol No 5 this time 🤣
  8. Hi everyone, just a quick update about the "Patrol Perfume No 5", I took the car to Nissan service, their assessment was that the o-rings in the injectors were worn out and they also advised to replace a segment of the pipe that goes into the carbon canister. Luckily that seemed to deal with the smell, I hope I don't find anything else! By the way, @Hisham Masaad - wanted to ask if you have footage you can share of the "playtime"! thanks in advance!
  9. A big thanks to @Lorenzo Candelpergher for hosting and leading us all during the drive, kudos to @Arman as 2nd lead and @GauravSoni for supporting and keeping the convoy moving from his sweep position. Also a pleasure to meet and drive with all of you @PaoloMaraziti, @Hasan Wahlan, @Farouq Owdeh, @Mus_hus78, @Ruan van den Heever, and @Xavier Treasurer. @PaoloMaraziti, it was an unfortunate situation the pop-out and tyre wall rupture, hope to see you soon in the sand! This was one of the drives with highest adrenaline rush I've been to. It also was my first visit to Sweihan and what a great area it is! it required me to be alert and focused whilst taking those bowls, steep slopes and not to mention the maneuvers to criss-cross certain points. We also managed to sustain continuous driving for long periods, which kept us all concentrated and with the right momentum to take up those challenges @Lorenzo Candelpergher was throwing at us. There were a few refusals and pop-outs, all were dealt safely and diligently, either with help of other members (the morning shoveling workout! 😅) or through self-recovery. As an experiment, this time I drove in 4L/tiptronic and deflated tires down to 9 PSI, the hypothesis was to try improve climbing capability and also maintain a lower engine coolant temperature. The engine coolant temperature reached 105C at its highest point, compared to 110C / 113C observed in a previous drives, notably in Dubai's Area 53, whilst driving in 4H. My perception was that, in spite of the soft and churned sand in some areas, the climbing performance was slightly better than driving in 4H, however driving 4L compromises speed and, as I am no car expert, don't know what impact it might have in the mechanics of the car (short, mid or long term). In terms of fuel consumption: by the time it was announced we were exiting the fuel gauge was about to reach half tank (capacity is 95L), I reached inflation point exactly with half tank, I also had to stop a few seconds on the way back to engage 4H as we were already on the dirt track. Here are a few videos, mostly chasing @Farouq Owdeh whose 5.7L Hemi engine can be heard roaring: Clip 1: Clip 2: Check at 0:05 what I think was a Super Safari Gazelle 🤩 climbing from the right of the video frame Clip 3: Wish you all a great week ahead!
  10. @Islam Soliman - a big thank you for hosting the drive. In spite of having issues with your car you were kind to find a way for us to have some time to play on slopes and bowls in the area, thanks for that. Also, many thanks to @Hisham Masaad for leading us during some "fast & furious" playtime and your support as sweep, much appreciated! @Pacific and @Ranjan Das a pleasure to meet and driving with you. Hope to see you all soon. Have a great week ahead.
  11. @Islam Soliman - looking forward to tomorrow's drive. With sunrise at 5:56am we will have a bit of time to drive with lights. Moonset is at 11:02am, therefore we will still catch a bit of light as well. See you all tomorrow!
  12. Richard @Wrangeld , excuse the last minute notice, I RSVP'd just now, hope this does not cause an inconvenience and look forward to join the drive.
  13. The topic keeps getting interesting - @munkybizness look to the right of the switch to turn on the coolbox, there is a USB port where you can attach a USB drive, I use it to play lossless audio files (e.g.: 192Khz - 24bit) without a problem, though output quality is of course not the same as through an audiophile system. Do you think that installing a DAC, instead of changing the head unit, and of course upgrade the speakers would be another option to consider? I researched and found this DAC: https://apogeedigital.com/blog/blog-how-to/listen-audiophile-quality-music-car-apogee-one-ios-device; There are quite a few shops in Dubai that seem to specialize in "Car Entertainment Upgrade & Installation" ...time to do some more research 🧐
  14. I've been told the same and have seen already a couple more Y61s with Squadron Pros installed as fog lights. In my case I've used them only while driving on sand, the spread and intensity are just right. The headlamps is another story, the bulbs I installed deliver a clear white light, which I use only as low beam while on the road. Check this chart from Philips https://www.philips.ae/c-e/au/car-lights/headlight-bulbs/led-headlight-bulb. You can find the LED bulbs in any car accessory shop, Philips or any other brand, they will install them on the spot for you.
