  1. I need to install new Salik tag on my LR Discovery and wondering if any of you creative lads come up with some proven technique for installing fugly big @$$ Salik somewhere more inconspicuous than on windscreen, which is bigger than the size of headlight.......! I have seen some people installing on sunroof on sedan, but haven't seen on sunroof on 4x4 especially taller 4x4 like Discovery, will it work? I dont wanna test 100 dhs tag instead learning and asking here is better. Bottom line install it discreetly (if possible).
  2. They both have their own fun per their speed and agility and I would def choose F1 and for local stock car brand enthusiasm I would say NASCAR. Overall I will enjoy F1 any day more than nascar.
  3. Finally got the u-joint changed and here comes to the end of wobbly ride and even slow speed grinding that I was ignoring from some time. It amazes me more now that how smooth and perfect more than a decade old discovery has become with this minor fix. Big thanx to all of you here.
  4. Thanks Nutbolt and I showed my disco to one of the garage near my house and you were damn right the drive shaft U-Joint was dried from last century and so hard and sounding so tight. Will arrange a new joint and get them replace as soon as possible. Hopefully this brings the disco dance to end. Ethan: Axle boot is fine and I think that has no impact on wobbling, as axle boot torn make noise of clak clak while on turns and especially full circle turn. Anyways. thanks for your advise.
  5. This definitely seems like a lots and lots of work and something require true passion, love, time, money and great resources for sourcing parts that can bring this oldie to life again. Instead of finding a problem with engine, I would suggest to plonk another motor that seems to fit in that engine bay. Older engines in general are bigger in size so the newer model let's 90's or 2000's engine might fit in with little modification and custom made adapters. You should start your research in closest matching engine in terms of size and orientation and then find a capable turning guys who can design the mounts and adapters especially the flywheel part. Once you have these two fall in its place rest everything else will follow sooner or later. Good luck and have fun, take lot of pictures.
  6. That 70's - 2000 is almost same for many all car-makers as they brag on simplicity to drive and fix anything anywhere. This characteristic doesn't exist anymore when car comes loaded with so many bells and whistles that half of car is driven electronically and other half with engine mechanics. And electronics break 10 times faster and unpredictable than mechanical. I don't know much about Ford nor a fan of one, but your point is truly from the past not from present. Today's Ford in my impression is good for 4-5 years and then it becomes serious money pit that requires endless workshop visit and fat wallet to "afford a ford".
  7. Check out the chevy silverado, year of experience and reliability and very hi strength truck: http://chevrolet.alghandi.com/new-vehicles/silverado/
  8. Hi Danny, no offence taken mate. I have got the two times alignment already and yes you were right in second time I was standing on their head to make it perfect zero on both sides or else will not pay a penny. Alas, it's still wobble
  9. Im having an old discovery, bought recently for the construction work area visit to nearby emirates than breaking my own car. This car runs just fine and does what exactly its meant to do, but at high speed above 100 there is weird wobbling that develops like an oscillation and then when I leave gas it goes back in reverse order of same oscillation. I got all 4 wheel balancing done, I tried opening the tires to see if there is any sand inside (per my offroad experience) which usually result in such weird oscillation wobbling but I am totally clueless on this one. I hope someone more educated can shed some light here.......! Thanks.
  10. Well I usually don't go into micro management and ask them a lumpsump quote to fix my problem and see if it seems legit I say quick yes, if not I go somewhere else.
  11. Thanks guys for all the help and suggestion, Is anyone of you has a Range Rover 2006-2012 model on springs that I can drive and have a feel of it and then decide accordingly.
  12. I have no clue what to be done with evergreen Range Rover suspension failure. I got the new air balloons less than 2 years and it comes with one year warranty and one of them failing now and loosing air overnight and making my Range in limp mode. Spending so much money every 2 years for suspension is too pricey and wondering if anyone here in Dubai or UAE found some good solution for this other than changing to old fashion spring suspension that lasts for 10 years. I am afraid not to go spring suspension route as I don't want to kill the road comfort at all. Appreciate any advise or heads up in right direction.
  13. Thanks kasim, have they accepted this their fault openly or not about faulty batch.....? I am sure they must have had plenty of complaints over same issue.
  14. Thanks guys for contributing and making me confuse even more. Special thanks to Taqir, to list rides in order of their capability. What happen to below more capable models or you forgot them....? Land Rover Discovery Land Rover LR4 and LR3 Range Rover Lexus LX 570 GMC Yukon Denali Hummer H2 Chevrolet Trailblazer Ford Explorer Mercedes G55 or G500 Nissan pathfinder
  15. Guys, I dont get eplus always and I was almost empty and that's why I got it. Never knew that day was my turn.....
  16. I got my car refueled at Adnoc lately with eplus as there was no other type of fuel was available and few days later car catalytic converter choked to death. Agency suspecting the fuel quality and Adnoc in Sharjah not commenting any possible issue with their fuel grade or error in production....! Wondering if anyone suffered same here recently...?
  17. Jumping traffic light is 2000 dirhams + 12 black points. If any accident happen then it's even more serious penalties and damage to public property fines up to 30,000 dirhams is possible. One of my known friend cousin brother accidentally jumped red light and hit another car and that car hit pedestrian as an affect of this accident. My friend cousin was in Jail until that pedestrian got released from hospital with a hair line injury. He has been fined 8000 dirhams additional for causing damage to the fence near the red light.
  18. Well, that yellow line lane called as Hard Shoulder. Hard Shoulder is made exclusively for emergencies only, especially for stopping by when met with an accident or car break down. However, that lane also used by Police, Ambulance and Fire department cars for case of acute emergencies (ONLY). Driving in hard shoulder in Dubai will get a fine of 2,000 dirhams and 12 black points. Same as jumping the red light. So decide for yourself if ever you want to......!
  19. Honda Accord = Class and Toyota Camry = Taxi Do we need to say anymore...?
  20. Well RTA here in Dubai (Tasjeel, Shamil, Wasl) has a limit of 3 years (soft limit) and 5 years (hard limit) from date of manufacturing. If it's older than 3 years but lesser than 5, then inspector will check the tread and uneven wear presence before passing the vehicle. If it's 5 year old, then straight away fail even if tire has 100% factory tread and unused.
  21. lolololol. I highly agree with tenace. No winter kit EVER required in Dubai +1
  22. What's the best 4x4 vehicle for Dubai sand dunes for dune bashing? Of course I don't mean million dollar Mercedes 6x6 league, but more within a reasonable budget that I can use regularly every week without the fear of breaking bumpers and electric failures. I prefer within 50k AED budget and I am open for old or very old vehicles as far as they are capable and reliable without too much or too expensive maintenance. Must Read: Best off road 4x4 cars under 10K and 20K dhs in UAE
  23. To be honest, it depends on your frequency. If you go every week and rent every time then it's better to buy one. Apart from buying it also requires maintenance and towing trailer blocking one of the parking spot that you need to consider.
  24. Woah, 260km/h speed in 1950's must be rocket fast. Did they have capable roads for testing at that time...? Nice touch of history, Ace.
  25. Well it's better to get online, at least you know for sure that it will fit in that limited space exactly. You can buy here too, but you might find it difficulty while getting it installed. Alternatively, before buying online visit naif market opp old hyatt, as almost all shops sell and install these stuff on the spot. So no chance of disappointment. I hope you know that installing sub woofer alone is not enough unless and until you plug it thru the amp. Last I got some stuff for my smaller car and discover that smallest amp exist in market is Sony 222 (model name). Look for same and you will get decent output. Alternatively if naif boys disappoint that they can't fit in small sub and amp, then you can upgrade your speakers to heavy watts as I have done same couple of years back and result was half way decent. Go with any good brand Sony, Kenwood or Pioneer speakers and you will enjoy it.
