I prefer to buy used, ideally 2 to 3 years old or a year old with higher mileage. Some makes like Audi or Jaguar seem to still depreciate faster than other makes like BMW for eg but their cars are as reliable in my opinion. It is is just the perception, although I read many times the new BMW 5 will probably depreciate faster than the A6 as it has many flaws! I am in the market for a used 2012 Audi A6 3.0L TSFI Quattro.It is still too expensive at the moment but in a year or so, I am hopeful it will be more affordable.
