Why check engine light on after getting O2 sensor changed?

After changing the front right O2 sensor in my 1999 Deville i am getting check engine light. Is this connected to the O2 sensor changing

Replacing the sensor is not connected to the check engine light and when this light comes up there could be number of reasons.

better get it checked with a mechanic.
