2018-20 Jeep Wrangler JL - Steering play - TSB

My 2018 JL has developed so much play that it is becoming dangerous at high speed, and a pain to drive with some level of precision, there is a dead zone when turning the steering wheel, (already aligned and balanced, new trackbar, also tight a bit the steering box adjustment, checked joints etc), so doing some research online... oh surprise, I find this:

I found the TSB pdf online, went to Jeep (my car is still on extended warranty), complained about the play and after some "pushing" they confirmed my car is affected by the TSB and they will order the steel steering box and install it.

Hopefully done by next week!

Thats certainly helpful research @Aser, Did the commit to when they will fix this? Hope You get it done well in time to get some DCT practice runs!

Well done @Aser for sharing the TSB of such a critical component, so other JL owners can also claim.

It's a shame the dealership isn't informing customers rather than waiting until they chase for such a high-risk item.

Yes, they said they will get the part by Wednesday or so, I can still go off-road if is not too much speed or high dunes etc. it's more work to me at the wheel and I don't want to push my luck...

Had the same thing , my steering stabilizer was complete gone, I had mostly bump steer and when on uneven pave, the wobble was hard to stop it

That's the death wobble 😅

That's a different problem that I had before and it was fixed changing the stabilizer under warranty.

Update:

I have my new steel (black) steering box installed for free (good that I got the extended warranty after I bought the car).

NIGHT AND DAY DIFFERENCE! no more excessive steering wheel play, full in control. 🤣

Great news about the fix! Nothing beats that feeling of a properly handling vehicle.
