Why is there black smoke coming from the exhaust?

after coming back from sharjah last night my wife who was driving behind me today morning noticed black smoke from the exhaust which worried me hoping that the engine is not going bad.

What may have caused the black smoke? should i take it to the dealers to fix it or i can do it myself?
