smoke from the exhaust is black

there is black smoke coming from my exhaust and i think this is damaging my engine if i continue to drive.

please advise how can i stop this smoke

If its high mileage engine, then its time to rebild and clean the carbon and change the piston rings to stop this smoke.

If its low mileage and well kept car, then check the AFM it could be running low on Air intake and burning more rich fuel causing this black smoke.
