Set up camp around 6PM in a quiet area and enjoy the evening together. Exit at Moreeb Dune the following morning around 10AM. Considering its seriousness to keep you and your vehicle safe, below rules apply: ESSENTIAL PREPARATION: Your car should be in 100% pristine working condition, so double or triple-check everything. As it's a long full-day drive, so catch up with enough sleep beforehand. 5-10 liters of water per person. Snacks for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and next day breakfast. untilDrive Details Level: Newbie and above (NO ABSOLUTE NEWBIES) Meeting time: 2:30 PM Meeting Point: https://maps.app.goo.gl/iqTBtk5p26vkaZYr5 Action Plan: Dubai's off-roading "old timers", and Carnity's in particular, will remember a time (just 4 or 5 years ago), when Qudra was a pristine sandy background for our escapades on beautiful, long range dunes, not nearly as high as Abu Dhabi's, but nonetheless extremely enticing for the possibility they offered for high speed drives, with lots or ridge-riding and criss-crossing. Nowadays, it seems that the frequent rains have lifted up the water table and fed much-needed nourishment to all kinds of grass and plants. After a few years of trying to avoid this desert that turned into a prairie, I'd like to go back down memory lane and trace back the club's old footsteps in the western and southern sectors of Qudra, from the Bab-al-Shams Road entry toward Solar Park. From here, we'll cross into Qudra's "secret dunes," where we are sure to find clean long-range dunes, to finish our drive in a way most reminiscent of our old days in Qudra. Type of Car: Any proper 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 8-10 inches of ground clearance. What to bring along: Loads of water, snacks, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn. Approximate finish time: 06:00 PM P.S. Only join if you have a compressor to inflate your tires after the drive.2 points

untilDRIVE DETAILS Level: Fewbie and above Meeting time: 02:00 PM (SHARP - Without any exceptions) Meeting Point: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Fj62PekBXHpxUBsD7 Action Plan: A sequel to only 2 previous drives in the area, we plan to visit truly unique spots along this quire technical route. After crossing a wet sabkha (speed will be of the essence), we'll cross a small "plateau" of technical dunes, to reach another sabkha. Here we'll find a scene worthy of Apocalypse Now: an abandoned shooting ground, where drones used to test their functionality on tens of old containers, now scattered across the sabkha like broken toys. From here, after crossing another "plateau" of technical duns, with quite a unique vegetation of small trees, we'll reach the area known for the Ghost Roads: an urban grid of tarmac roads and cross-roads, partially buried by moving dunes, creating another post-apocalyptic landscape, which we'll admire during the sunset. Type of Car: Any proper 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 8-10 inches of ground clearance. What to bring along: Loads of water, snacks (for yourself), smiles, face mask, rubber gloves, enthusiasm and willingness to learn. Approximate finish time: 06:00 PM P.S. untilDrive Details Level: Fewbie and above Meeting time: 03:00 PM Meeting Point: https://maps.app.goo.gl/zHTU54Dek3K5hpZH7 Action Plan: First of a new series of drives dedicated to Country Music. Even though it is distinct American genre, it blends the folk music traditions of English, Scottish, and Irish immigrants with elements of African American blues, gospel, and other musical styles. Invariably, the stories told through Country music are based on everyone's most human and truest feelings - love, family, the rewards of one's work and the pleasures of one's leisure time - infused with fascination for being on the frontier of exploration and at the forefront of cultural innovation and exchange (what was once the feeling of living in America, and is now what feels like living in the UAE). Hence, each installment of this series will pick a song that will embody the spirit of the drive. This time it will be "Country Boy's World", by Jason Aldean. It tells the story of a "country boy" and his world, contrasting it with the experiences of someone unfamiliar with that lifestyle, a little bit "unfamiliar" like most of us must have felt faced for the first time with life in the UAE, and most of all facing its deserts and raw nature. What better area than Sweihan Ramlat to embody this feeling of frontier, wilderness and adventure.... What to bring along: Loads of water, snacks (for yourself), smiles, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn. Approximate finish time: 7:00 PM P.S. Only join if you have a compressor to inflate your tires after the drive.1 point

untilDrive Details Level: Fewbie and above Meeting time: 08:00 am (departure time) Meeting Point: https://maps.app.goo.gl/BJodYk1wCDX5PUWd9 Action Plan: Second installment of the desert books' series, with the choice of a text dedicated to crossings the sands of the Arabian desert, hence very close to home. Authored by explorer and travel writer Wilfred Thesiger, "Arabian Sands" details his two crossings of the Empty Quarter: Thesiger’s first crossing, from Mughshin (Oman) to Liwa, was followed by a crossing of the western sands from Manwakh (Yemen) to Abu Dhabi. The book attempts to capture the lives of the Bedu people and other inhabitants of the Arabian Peninsula. I have chosen a track well within the Abu Dhabi area, where the author's second trek took him, wandering if Thesiger actually crossed these sands. We'll skirt some farms, as well as dwell among the more secluded cordons, to conclude the drive at Tilal Resort (anybody who wishes to have lunch there can arrange to stay). Still trying to distil the best of the book, and to build up to the day of the drive, I'll post a book's quote each day. Let's try to find inspiration in this Desert Books' Series to truly appreciate our interaction with our favorite element of nature. What to bring along: Loads of water, snacks (for yourself), smiles, face masks, rubber gloves, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn. Approximate finish time: 12:30 PM P.S. Only join if you have a compressor to inflate your tires after the drive.1 point
