  1. Hi there! Once the topic name is fuel consumption... My Disco 2 makes 21L/100km (95 litres=450km). I mainly drive on SZR and Emirates road and I always go as fast as possible...
  2. Hi there, What is the model of your Defender (engine, gearbox, model year)? I had very poor fuel on my MY2000 Disco 2 and it was the air flow meter. I changed it and now it's fine. Concernig the gearbox, as teddychad suggested the best to start with is the oil and filter change.
  3. Hi there, That is one of the known problems for the P38. The only solution is to remove the air supension and install normal springs. I've only driven the air suspended one but "they say" that it is much more confortable than with the normal helical springs...
  4. Hi there, What do you mean with a bit of overheating? Where does the temperature needle goes? The normal should be in the middle... What kind of offroading where you doing? Driving in high revs all the time? The AC shuts down when the vehicle overheats? Probably it is a safety feature. Whenever the engine temperatures goes above a certain level, the ECU starts shutting down non essential systems to reduce the load on the engine... Cheers!
  5. Hi there, The coolant used for engines is ussualy a mix of water and glycol among other chemicals. The main reason for the chemicals is to increase the boiling point of the water and to reduce the freezing point of the water. For what I know there are many different mixtures that can lower or raise the above points. For the ME, I believe we use something that more to raise the boiling point than to lower the freezing point. Also, the radiator/expansion tank cap valve has a very important task once it allows for pressure to be relieved at a certain point. Ideally, one should stick to the manufacturer recommendations unless the engine is tired and the cooling system not working properly... Hope to have helped.
  6. Hi there, Black smoke means too much fuel is going into the engine or that the fuel is not being burned properly. What Rover do you have? I have the same problem on my Discovery 2 and after on line research found that should be the MAF sensor that is either dirty or damaged. If your car has O2 sensors, could also be that they need replacement. You should get it fixed because it is drinking too much fuel and it also not healthy for the engine too run like that. Regards,
  7. Hi there, This will all depend on how much mileage you have on them. Ussualy the front shocks go before the rear ones. That is because they have to handle the weight of the engine and also if you hit a pot hole or climb a sidewalk most probably the front of the vehicle will do it faster than the rear because you realize you did it too fast and you brake. On my Disco 2 the rear ones are a bit too soft but the front ones are fine. Probably because the previous owner changed the front ones only. My car has done 150.000kms and I think the rear ones will last another 10.000. BTW, if you go off road, now would be a good time to consider an upgrade or even a lift kit. Hope I've helped!
  8. Also take in consideration that maybe the spare has not been used for a long time and the rubber maybe too dry and with cracks and this can cause it to burst!! I drove a friend's car that had been parked for a few months from Dubai to Sharjah and one of the tyres started to loose bits of rubber to a point that when we got to Sharjah the metal ply could already be seen!! He got 4 hankook tyres for 2000AED in one of the tyre shops in BMW road.
  9. Hi wsg3098 and amowat, Welcome to the forum! I hope you enjoy it! Concerning the aquisition of a LR, there are a few for sale on Dubizzle and some seem to be some good deals. Have a look and if you need the opinion of the forum I suggest you create a topic for it. Regards,
  10. Hello! Thanks for the reply! Meanwhile, I've changed the spark plugs and the "moods" are gone. Someone already mentioned to me the issue with the fuel filler neck! At the moment I'm out of the country but as soon as I'm back I'll have a look! Did you have to replace yours? If yes, is it expensive? Do you have to lower the fuel tank? Thanks a lot!
  11. The carbon build up can happen on the cylinder head and on top of the pistons. Does Carbon Alter Combustion in Other Ways? Absolutely, in addition to causing poor combustion, excessive build up can also alter the vehicle’s compression ratio. The carbon fills up spaces around the piston rings, head gasket, and spark plugs. This decreases the amount of space that is available in the combustion chamber. This increases the compression, which can cause the engine to overheat, ping (detonate), and also causes an increase in NOX emissions. Check this link: http://www.bearriverconverters.com/data ... etter5.pdf Regards,
  12. Hi, What do you mean with automatic tow rope? Do you mean winch? I never heard of that and uncle google is not helping either...
  13. Very nice!! Can we have some pictures as a source of inspiration?
  14. Hi, If it was done correctly meaning: - Positive with positive, negative with negative, - Preferably but not essencial, first connect positive and then negative so that in case of spark it goes to the negative side and not the positive that is the one usualy connected to the components If done like mentioned above there should be no problem. Did you notice anything different after the jump start? Regards,
  15. Hi there, I would be happy to swap with you if the tyres and wheels are in good condition. What brand and model of tyres do you have? My Bridgestone tyres are almost new with lots of thread on them. I've sent you a PM with my contacts so if you're interested just reply to it or through here. Here is my Disco so you can see my wheels: Cheers,
