  1. Great drive @Frederic. Will be joining with Kabir. Looking forward to start camping as well.
  2. Sad to you see leave @Hisham Masaad . Wish you good luck.
  3. A pretty exciting drive with lots of action throughout the day. When we started this morning, it seemed that the desert was a tarmac where we could have driven without deflation and on 2H. But as the sun started coming up and the upper layer started to dry, the challenges began in the form of refusals. The maximum learning happens when you have Refusals and Stucks, as there is where you develop the finer skills of driving on the sand. All the Newbies did exceptionally well driving, keeping the right amount of distance and maintaining the momentum. Today's drive was definitely above a typical Newbie level drive, and you all should be proud of how you tackled the dunes today. @Imran Asghar and @PETELCZYC PAJERO - luke were the real show stoppers of the day 😂. But look at the bright side your car will now be even more ready for the DCT. I am sure @Davie Chase would be glad that the broken rim happened on a Newbie drive rather than when they are making a challenge for the Champions Trophy. Big thank you to @Davie Chase , @Benjamin @Fabien Monleau for joining and supporting the drive. Special mention to @Felix Obst who handled the Second Lead position superbly well. It was a pleasure driving with all of you on a beautiful Sunday morning in Sweihan. Till we meet again on sands, take care.
  4. @Dan S @Vijay Cowlagi @SamBha @SUMEDH KRISHNA WAGHMARE @Arravind @Felix Obst @Tatsiana Chase @PETELCZYC PAJERO - luke @James Dunlop @Aser @Imran Asghar @Benjamin @Fabien Monleau Welcome to tomorrow's Newbie Drive in Sweihan. We will start of at a nice relaxed pace to enjoy the morning weather, and as the convoy starts feeling comfortable we might throw in a couple of challenges. We have a strong group of Experienced members who are joining us tomorrow, so please feel free to get stuck. 😁 Few Important Points : Please be at the meeting point on or before 6:30 AM. Please ensure that you have tow points both at the Front and Back. If not, we will unfortunately halve to send you back Deflate to 15 psi if you are on HT tyres, and to 12-13 psi if you are on AT tyres. Incase of any doubt, please feel free to ask questions We will not be stopping close to a gas station, so please bring your compressor along The nearest gas station is https://maps.app.goo.gl/Ncwv8XTiver7zbTi6 which is not exactly on the route towards the meeting point, resulting in a detour. Please factor this so as to make it to the meeting point by 6:30 AM We will be using Carnity Channel 3 (446.056) for tomorrow's drive. Please ensure that this channel is programmed properly before the drive. 8. General Zed is calling all his soldiers to the battlefield. Man your positions!!
  9. Amazing writeup @Zed. I now know who I will be rooting for during the DCT.
  10. If I do participate, I will definitely put a request to join your team.
  11. Rear Fog lamp is not a mandatory requirement in UAE. And with regards to the parking sensors I believe it depends on how they are wired, in series or parallel
  12. That might infact help reduce popouts as the tyre is sitting very tight on the rim. I did the same when I increased the width from a 235 mm to a 270 mm on a 7.5 inch rim width. It turned out to be very forgiving with terms to popouts.
  13. If it's a manual Jeep chances are pretty high it's already been offroaded, because they are either way very few in numbers. I agree with Fred that if you intend on buying a Wrangler the Pentastar engine is what you should be looking at. Also, please do check up, the earlier Pentastar engines did have some issues which were then rectified in the later models. Alternatively if you are lucky to find an old TJ with a 5 speed gearbox.
  14. Appreciate everyone who joined in yesterday. It was great to be out on the sand after a bit of break with lots of energy and laughter. See you guys soon on the sand again.
  15. One of my favorite topics...a Manual gearbox. Firstly, I love the feel of a manual gearbox especially while driving on the sand. No overheating issues, no upshifting issues and if you are reasonably careful they will outlast an automatic transmission any day. As Fred said, however much your experience of driving manual on the road is, off-road is very different. You will definitely burn your clutch in the initial phase. How many clutch sets you go through depends on how fast you learn not to ride the clutch. I prefer the vehicle to stall 10 times rather than ride the clutch once. But before you jump into a manual Xterra, I would check the following: 1. What are the gear ratios of the manual Xterra vs the automatic version. In some cars like the XJ the manual gearbox has a superior first gear ratio than in the automatic, letting you drive at high speeds on 1st gear. 2. If these gearboxes are not common, what would you do when one fails? Are they places (in US or a scrappy) where you can find a replacement. After struggling with quite a few bad scrapyard and rebuilt gearboxes over the past 2-3 years, last year I finally was able to source a new gearbox from the US. Costed a bomb, but I am glad I took the call. Some points that you ought to consider before buying a Manual Xterra.
  16. Hi Anas If the thread diameters don't match there is nothing much that anyone can do at the meeting point. Instead I would suggest you visit a hardware shop and they will provide you with a proper connection. Keep me posted on how it's going.
  17. @PETELCZYC PAJERO - luke @Vijay Cowlagi @Mahmoud Taha @Felix Obst @Arravind @Zed @Naveen Raj @Aser @AnasArif @Ishak @rohit kumar @Vanessa8580 @Asif Hussain Morning Sweihan Boys & Girls It was great to see the number of sign-ins increase during the week, resulting in a near Full House. We are fortunate to have a very good mix of New and Experienced Drivers amongst us. So to all the Newbies, don't be afraid to get stuck. I am sure the Experienced Guys will be more than happy to shovel and pull you out if needed. We have planned an early start to maximize the time we spend during the cooler period of the day. Everyone should ensure that they have a working radio programmed to Carnity Channel 3 as well as ensure that you have a proper safety flag and a shovel. The plan is start the drive at the break of daylight where we would be hitting the long range dunes. The drive level would be a Newbie level but I can assure you that we will have lots of fun and playtime. Convoy Numbering 1. Srikumar - XJ 2. Vanessa - Xterra 3. Luke - Pajero 4. Anas - Fortuner 5. 20. And if you are really lucky, you might sight a near extinct XJ. Some believe they have seen a unicorn 🤣
  21. That's always the case. In my XJ the 3rd gear in 4L is almost the same as 1st gear in 4H. So there have been times in some nasty areas I have toggled between 2nd and 3rd gear in 4L which gives enough speed without compromising significantly on the low range torque to get out
