As we mention in our briefing offroading puts a lot of strain on your vehicle. On higher level drives like Intermediate, despite our best efforts certain amount of premature body or mechanical damage is expected. The decision of going for a second car is a personal choice. But since you have asked my opinion, I would say that if you intend to make this a regular hobby its good to have a second car purely for offroading purpose. You can modify it or do minimum fixes as per your convenience without worrying too much about offroading damages. Having said that, we have @Emmanuel who has been using his Xterra both for ofroading as well as a daily driver for the past 2 years and has managed it extremely well. Same is the case for @Frederic who uses his 99 Pajero for both purposes. But then their stock vehicles are proper offroader with good ground clearance and minimal electronics. Can't exactly say the same about a Patrol Y62 with its low hanging bumpers.

Rear Bumper fix for Mitsubishi Pajero
Srikumar replied to Srikumar's topic in Mitsubishi Pajero Forum in UAE
If you have a tow bar that provides the support to the aluminum bumper. In such a case this fix is not needed. -

The post 2007 year models (esp LWB) of Pajero have a design flaw which makes their rear bumper (aluminium part) act like a sand scooper. On many of the offroad drives, I personally have recommended to the the Pajero owners to remove the rear aluminium lip which is a 10 mins job. However, it does look quite ugly once removed. Hence, I highly recommend that all Pajero owners get the following plate fixed to protect their rear bumper. Its better to make it atleast with a 4 inch plate and it can be fabricated in any workshop.

You need to get a proper bash plate done. Patrol Y62 stock bumpers are not meant for offroading. And if you intend to use this car for regular offroading it's 100% worth the investment

@Salarios could you send a picture where you hit your bumper. From the video it seems that you hit the bumper in the front and not from the right side.

What needs to be understood is that the rubber can flex and not the alloy/steel rims. So a 20 inch rims has very less rubber and when you deflate the tyre still takes the shape of the rims. But if you have a 18 inch rims, then you have more rubber whose shape would change when you reduce the pressure. Hope it's clear now.

Best 4x4 cars under 10K and 20K dhs in UAE
Srikumar replied to Gaurav's topic in Offroad General Discussion
I am actually quite surprised with your recommendation of desert driving on low range gearing. My points are: 1. In all our absolute Newbie desert drives, everyone has been driving on 4H without facing any difficulty. So what further advantage would 4Low offer in normal desert driving conditions? 2. We have plenty of live examples of guys frying their transmission because some offroad clubs recommend driving on 4 Low ONLY. Some of those guys are on this forum as well and if they wish they can share their experience without naming the clubs. If you love your car, you would definitely would not like to strain it with continuous driving in 4Low. Low range gearing is to be used only for the following : 1. Self Recovery 2. Towing or Tugging 3. Steep hill descent- 102 replies

Infact there is a significant difference in power between the 3.5 and 3.8. Since a LWB Pajero is a heavy car, you will notice the difference with the 3.8 Also the 3.8 comes with the additional feature of Rear Diff Lock which is helpful to self recover in some side angle stucks. If you are serious about the Pajero try to get the SWB Pajero 3.8. Skip the 2008-2011 models as they have a gear upshifting problem.

Not Nissan. You need to buy Land Cruiser or RR. Anything else is blasphemy.
