  1. There is also the option of bungs. Previously, I had a Subaru which I used for track days. The majority of tracks have noise limits and if your car is too loud, you aren't allowed on track. I had a free flowing rear silencer which was VERY loud but it also came with bungs that could be fitted to the silencer in a few minutes with a handful of screws to instantly bring the db level down. Something else for you to look at.
  2. If you have a big bore exhaust people are more likely to hear you coming and get out of your way. Loud pipes save lives! I don't know of any specific aftermarket manufacturers who make what you're looking for but it is completely doable with a bit of custom fabrication. Aston Martin for one example, the DB9 if I remember correctly has a switchable exhaust system. There is a solenoid operated valve in the system which routes the exhaust gas through extra silencers then opens under throttle to let the gas flow more freely. A lot of owners remove the fuse so the valve is always open and you always have more noise. I also recall seeing something similar on some BMWs although it was a vacuum operated valve towards the rear silencer. So yes, if you can find someone who can weld proficiently and has a little bit of know how, you can do it.
  3. Thank you too @slick72 it's always a pleasure to have you in. @Rahimdad you're right. People like to complain and rarely say when something goes right. The whole 3k, 5k, 10k oil change thing is a load of crap and a scam to con people out of money. I never heard of it until I came to UAE and I've been doing this for 15 years. Put in the oil recommended by the manufacturer and change it when the the manufacturer recommends you change it. Anything else is just asking for trouble. Good oil is 20 dirhams more expensive than crap oil. Why risk it?
  4. AFAIK it's 6 dhs for the big bottle. I'm not 100% sure, the wife deals with it.
  5. I've only ever used a garage twice in my life because I was too busy (lazy) to work on my own car and both times I had a bad experience. These days I don't trust anyone's work but my own. There are lots of good mechanics out there but I don't want to waste my time testing people, if I do it myself at least I know it's done right. First time was a Vauxhall Astra Mk 3. It was chewing tyres badly so I left it in to get a wheel alignment done. Got the car back with the steering wheel upside down. Left it back in the next day to get it sorted. I'm convinced they never bothered tracking it properly the second time, just took the steering wheel off and turned it around. Second time was a Subaru Legacy and a bit more serious. Left it in for a clutch replacement. Driving out it seemed fine. A few miles out the road and I took it over a hump back bridge and got a little bit of air time. They didn't put the bolts back in the bottom ball joints. You can guess what sort of a mess that made. Stance yO.
  6. A couple of weeks ago I noticed that the colour of the big bottles of drinking water I was buying at home had changed from blue to pink. I never gave it much thought other than thinking it was a bit gay but yesterday, I noticed this,
  7. This looks like immense fun. I can only imagine that the drivers must have chrome plated balls.
  8. Just found some pics of the new Mercedes X Class concept. Probably a contender for the VW Amarok but way more expensive I imagine.
  9. @treks flat tappets are solid tappets, as in tappets without a roller bearing. I had to google it too.

It must be road legal. I've seen one on the road a few weeks ago. Taking something illegal on the road here would just be plain stupid.
  11. So someone on a forum put in a different type of oil other than what was recommended by the manufacturer and the engine didn't blow up. No dyno print outs, no before and after pics of crankshaft bearings, no pics of the oil filters cut open and unfolded etc, no solid evidence, just a feeling. 🤔 Im still not sold on the idea. If the manufacturer thought it would be a good idea to use a different type of oil, they would have put it in at the factory or issued a TSB saying it was ok to do so. Manufacturers and oil companies spend millions on research. People trying these things for fun are just experimenting and accepting the consequences if their engines die. I know where my faith lies.

    Polaris Slingshot?
  13. How about this Ferrari shooting brake? OK, it's a one off coachbuilt special but still,
  14. I think realistically, some sort of VTOL craft like this will be the closest we will ever see to a flying "car" in our lifetime but the costs would restrict it to the social elite. http://www.techweekeurope.co.uk/e-innovation/sikorsky-cessna-business-travel-jet-176636?utm_source=Taboola&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Jan2016&utm_source=taboola&utm_medium=referral
  15. Which cars have the best interiors? one of my favourites is the Matra Bagheera. I love the 3 seats up front.

I used to have one of these. It was pure evil incarnate. If you gave it too much throttle, the front would lift slightly and you would lose the steering and it would take off in whatever direction it felt like. Was also very unstable in corners. I came off it a few times, even hit a tree once. There are a few different types of trikes. Car based and bike based. A lot of people use the back end of an old air cooled beetle and fit a bike front end. There are also fully bike based ones. Some of the Honda Goldwing trikes are things of beauty and almost look as if they were built by the factory. My personal favourites are the rat trikes.
  17. I guess it's stronger than using newspaper and body filler 😂
  18. Don't make experiments with oil. Stick to manufacturer recommended grades and service intervals. It can only take one bad fill of oil and you're taking an engine apart to change piston rings and shell bearings.
  19. This could be a serious contender
  20. American Donk style. Not for me thank you.
