  1. I got the ZOMEI Q555 based on very good reviews and affordability: https://www.amazon.ae/gp/product/B07W6Z22JK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It works well for me for the occasional use and i did not want to spend thousands of dirhams for something i use occasionally. I think in terms of professional brands, Manfrotto must be top of the list.
  2. A small summary of the replies we received: Thanks to everyone for the detailed information ! I think we can come to the following conclusions: 1) Driving in Manual (tiptronic mode) seems to give some relief. However it's important to keep the car in the right gear and not toggle between gears all the time. The trick is to minimize the shifting. 2) If above does not resolve the issue, an auxiliary fan could be the first option. 3) Depending on the severity of the problem and your personal driving style (intense offroading vs calm offroading) you can opt for replacing the stock transmission cooler with a bigger model. If the vehicle is still in warranty this is best to avoid. I agree with the statement that the Pajero in D mode sometimes has the tendency to upshift and downshift quite often. There are a few reasons for this: 1) The ECU "learns" from your driving style and changes the gear shifts accordingly. If you drive the car slow and economically during the week, it will be constantly upshifting and downshifting on the off-road drive as it notices your driving style has changed completely. 2) During offroading and especially in technical terrains it's as driver not easy to keep your foot stable on the pedal. If you constantly change your throttle, the car will try to follow what you want and it will upshift and downshift all the time. Hence driving in manual mode and avoiding the constant shifting helps to minimize the transmission from heating up. I remember @Vanessa8580 telling me that she can keep the car in 2nd gear most of the time, and only kicks it back in 1st gear whenever she needs to attack a dune or hill climb. She never faced overheating issues (2008 3.8 model).
  3. DRIVE RSVP IS NOW CLOSED I hope you guys are excited to enjoy a full day of sand, lovely scenery, and some gentle mountain trails ! As mentioned in the drive topic, this drive is meant to be a scenic drive, that focuses more on the experience than specifically on the drive skills. Having said that, there will be times where you will need to use the skills you have learned so far. In this trip we will be driving in 3 emirates, going from Batayeh (Sharjah), to Falaj Al Moalla (Umm al Quwain), and up to Masafi (Ras Al Khaimah). Some pointers: - Upon arrival, you can start deflating to 14-15psi. I would not advise to go much lower as there is some occasional tarmac that we will have to cross, and mountain trails in the afternoon (by then the real pressure will most-likely be closer to 18psi which is good). - Bring plenty of water, lunch, and some snacks. There won't be toilets nearby, but i will do my best to stop at the occasional mosque for the members that would like to pray, and/or freshen up a bit. -You're all pre-confirmed for the drive this week, however your final participation is subject to your "totally agree" confirmation of the specific post about the new Covid-19 restrictions and requirements for the drives, which was shared with all Carnity Members in our Whatsapp Group last Tuesday. Unfortunately numbers are rising and we will be therefore much more vigilant this weekend and beyond, until the pandemic will be hopefully under control - which clearly is not yet the case. Make sure you confirm that you totally agree with the new rules: no confirmation = no drive... it cannot be said clearer than this. Also, be aware that if you don't comply during the drive: 1. You'll be escorted straight out of the desert. 2. You'll earn yourself a ban from Carnity. No one is exempted: the rules apply to you, myself and anyone else on the drive. If you have any questions on this, let me know. There can be NO GATHERING OR SOCIALIZING at any time, not during deflation, not during the rest times. Please abide by this and wear a mask whenever you are out of the car. During the rest-times the cars will be parked on sufficient distance from each other and we should stay nearby our vehicles. - We will be using Channel 1 for all comms: 446.00625 Mhz. Please tune in as soon as you arrive as i will do the briefing over the radio. See you guys and gals tomorrow morning !
  4. Good morning @Hisham Masaad There are different models in the market. You have the flexible roll-up tracks like this: And then you have the solid models like this: * Maxxtraxx * ARB * AOR * Chinese Dragon Mart copies. My opinion: The flexible ones i have seen in action a few times, but never seen them working in sand. I do not believe they are worth it. The solid ones however are a nice item and when used properly, can get you out of tricky spots IF you also understand the essentials about self-recovery and use the blip-blip method instead of flooring the throttle. There will be difference in rigidity/flexibility between the professional models like ARB and Maxxtraxx vs the cheaper Dragon Mart models, but how less effective they are i do not know. Have a look at below video. I happen to know the guy and i discussed this event with him after seeing it online. As he likes going for long overlanding trips, he got stuck on a salt flat and was able to get himself out with these boards: I know that a wet sabkha is totally different from dry desert sand, but i have seen @frederic demolder using his boards a few times, and maybe it was not always a success, but sometimes it was just the little 5% of traction he needed to wiggle the car out. As i said you need to use them with caution so they don't fly out when you rev to hard. Use the blip-blip method and put at least two boards on each wheel that has no traction. Be gentle with the gas and just try to find a bit of traction.
  5. Have you considered Infiniti Q50 ? If you want lots of electronics yet reliability this might be worth considering.

  7. Thanks @Anish S, indeed the oil cooler needs air flow going through it to be able to cool down, so when the car is standing still there won’t be much airflow so that might explain the overheating, although it’s indeed strange during winter time. Anyways looking at the previous replies so far it would seem that: 1) driving in tiptronic causes less shifting, hence less work to do for the transmission and lower chance for overheating. 2) if the transmission oil is still fine and there is no obstruction in the transmission cooler, a fan might be an extra help especially during longer standstill periods. I have the impression the overheating sign is more sensitive on the recent Pajeros which makes me think maybe something was changed (different sensor, lower alarm level trigger)... Let’s keep gathering more information the coming weeks and especially towards the summer.
  8. The smaller ones are absolute rubbish, the bigger ones however, though quite expensive (plus 1000 aed) are amazing. Just be careful to keep it away from hot parts so it does not start melting.
  9. @Adhir Saxena you are signed into the Newbie afternoon drive already. I can put you in my full day drive if you wish (1 space available).
  10. Hi @Lawrence_Chehimi, if any space becomes available do you want me to add you, or will you stay in the other drive you have signed up for ? Just need to know if i need to keep you in the waitlist or not.
  11. Amazing shot with amazing smiles 😃
  12. Hi Ahmad, I would like to schedule in at least a break every 2 hours. We will indeed be passing by a few mosques but the exact time of that is impossible to calculate as it depends on the progress we make. I hope that is ok for you.
  13. Good morning @khurram.k i noticed you have signed up for this drive and the afternoon Newbie as well. Please note this is a full day drive so that won't be possible. Please select the drive you wish to stay in and remove your RSVP from the other drive. Thanks !
  14. 4H is totally fine, the only difference with 4hlc is that this distributes the power between front and back with 50/50 instead of the 30/70 variable ratio. I don’t believe this will make any difference with overheating. Tyre pressure however is very critical and should be kept at 14-15psi and not higher. Thanks @Abilash Madhavan I have merged your topic with this one as we are trying to bring all Pajero generation 4 owners with this issue together and see if we can find a solution.
  15. The white Landcruiser just made his turn and was starting the sidesloping when he suddenly noticed the car in front of him lost momentum. These things are a split second decision and he should have stopped and steered down, rather than overtake. A bit more distance would have helped him to have more time to react.
