  1. Well it’s not my car. So I can only act as an intermediate and try to help her out. Agree there are far better workshops around but I haven’t met good electronics guys so far yet. Not even in my favorite shop 😜
  2. It’s also itching to get a bike. My friend has a Ducati Monster that I hope he will sell one day so i can grab it 😅 Ducati has a great following here. I know the president of the UAE Ducati club and they do lots of trips and are like one big family helping each other out. Have a look at Ducati owners club Dubai on FB. There are hundreds of bikes covered throughout the year with hardly any miles on them and owners leaving the country. Have a look out and buy from an expatriate that looked after it.
  3. Update: So i spoke to their service manager this morning and got the following info: Car battery was drained when it arrived in the workshop. Then they've put in a test battery and started diagnostics. Apparently the ECM is not sending power to the injectors, which makes them think there is something wrong with the wiring harness and ECM. I am pretty sure that the car can be back up and running with a bit of time and some parts (and probably lots of energy drinks). But as it sits now the workshop does not proceed without further ok-go on the quote.
  4. Happy birthday buddy !
  5. A friend of my boss is having the following problem with her Cadillac CTS. The car was fine before, but has been standing still for a while. At one point the car did not want to start anymore. Her husband left the country already so she was baffled to receive below quote from a well known Dubai Workshop: Looking at the quote they basically want to throw 13kAED at that car, knowing well that this almost exceeds residual value of the car. Either this, or the car is throwing all possible fault codes (which might be related to a harness, power supply, or grounding issue. Unfortunately i have little details about the car's symptoms. I will pass by the workshop tomorrow and try to get some more details about it. @Barry as you are our mad scientist around this place, if you're available freelance to help troubleshooting let me know (056 504 2632).
  6. Hahahaha really cool and well thought off. But he should have put an electric engine to attract the ECO-hipsters
  7. * Mercedes Benz W201 * Volkwagen Golf MK2 * Volvo 240
  8. Superb video with a lot of technical details which are indeed a good lesson in Automotive Engineering. Finally some recognition to the BMW engine. How much i would love to buy this car and keep it in a dry garage bone stock. I'll just need to keep on dreaming.
  9. Fully agree. I remember my grandfather who was always busy with his pigeons, chickens, and working in and around the house. It kept hem going and young. When he later moved to a retirement home it went downwards fast. That's why i have no plan of taking lots of rest, but keeping an active lifestyle with lots of animals and work to do on the land and hopefully some old cars to restore
  10. In these challenging times, and with so much uncertainty, it's probably kind of hard to predict where you might be when you finally arrive at retirement age. However it is something that many people think of. What is your IDEAL DREAM scenario of retirement look like ? and where ? - For me personally, knowing that my children will probably be expats too, i would like to retire in a region where i can have a piece of land to grow my own organic veggies, and have a bunch of animals to look after. Ideally far enough from the city, but still acceptable to make the ride for essential groceries or other things.. - WHERE is the main question. I fell in love with France many times already, and certain parts in the south of Belgium are also nice. But this might as well be Oman or anyplace else where i could find peace and a visa
  11. Ok this is purely a guess: 7.5 Billion is the population. I expect around 20% of the global population to have a car, so around 1,5 Billion maybe ?
  12. @Yash1 is a Jimny driver that was in my convoy some weeks back. From what i've seen the Jimny managed very well. Maybe he can give his two cents.
  13. I always loved watches. But i love my wallet just a little bit more. My 200dirhams classic G-shock is all i need around my wrist.
  14. Welcome to Carnity ! That Prado sounds like a good deal. We are all missing the off-roading now and hope to be back in the sands soon. Stay tuned !
  15. Most of the early GEN4 Pajeros do not have an AUX connection, so it does not allow for other music sources to be connected. Later on they started installing the AUX jack connector in the glove box. But for the people with early 4th generation i made this tutorial on how to install an AUX cable, allowing you to hook up your phone or Ipod. Until now i did not find the time for this install, and used a Bluetooth FM transmitter with a USB stick which i stored my MP3 files on. It's a cheap option, but sound quality was horrible and did not do justice to the nice sound quality the Pajero has with the Rockford Fosgate Setup. Materials needed: - Plastic spatula or knife to remove the AC vents - Soldering gun and solder wire (tin). - Aux cable (cable with headphone jack on it). - Philips Screwdriver Step 1: Remove the vent channels on both sides Do this gently by prying the knife inbetween the vent and the soft part of the dashboard. Work your way around and take your time. It's very easy to do but do not use excessive force. On the vent channel with the warning light indicators, you'll need to unplug the connector on the backside. Step 2: Remove the head unit front panel Put your hands on both sides of the headunit and pull towards you. The complete unit should pull out without any issues. Unplug the connector on the back side. Step 2: Remove the CD unit There are 4 Philips screws thay you need to unscrew to remove the CD unit. On the backside, remove the antenna connector and the two white connectors. Step 3: Prepare the AUX cable In my case this was a cable i had lying around for a long time already. On the one side you have a headphone jack, on the other side you will need to cut the wires and make them solder-ready. You should have 3 wires: The left and right audio channel, and the ground wire. The ground wire is the wire that is wrapped around the other wires and does not have insulation. Step 4: Identify the connection on your head-unit. You will have 2 white connectors. The smallest connector (18 pins) is the one that you will need to solder on. In my car there were already wires connected on these connectors, as this is the connection for future rear seat entertainment. I have cut these ones and soldered my Aux cable wire onto them. See below the pinout for Pajero: Pin 14: GROUND (YELLOW EXISTING CONNECTOR) Pin 15: AUDIO LEFT CHANNEL (BLUE EXISTING CONNECTOR) Pin 6: AUDIO RIGHT CHANNEL ( PINK EXISTING CONNECTOR) Step 5: Solder all three wires properly. Once you have soldered these wires, make sure they are properly insulated, either with shrink insulation or with electrical tape. Once this is done, you can choose where you want to bring the AUX cable to. You can put it under the steering column or somewhere else, but in my case i drilled a small hole inside the front storage box (where you have the ID card holder) and put the AUX cable through there. Now put everything back in its place. The headunit and vents can be pushed back into their place easily. The AUX is now connected to an old Android phone with 16GB SD card to store the music on. You can also put Spotify with offline download option, or just use your own phone. Even a Bluetooth module can now be connected. Note: To ACTIVATE AUX, you need to push on the CD button for a few seconds. DONE. Overall time taken: +/- 90 mins PS On how to fix the ERROR03 on your CD PLAYER. Since a few months i noticed my CD player did not work anymore. There were still 3 CD's inside, but i got the ERROR03 everytime i wanted to load them. It seems this error means one of the CD's is stuck inside. Since i was opening and removing the unit for the AUX installation i had a quick look and was able to fix the error like this: Step 1) Remove the top panel of the CD player by removing the 4 little screws. Step 2) Locate the CD on top. In my case it was stuck out of center. I gently used a screwdriver to get the CD loose and put it back into the center. I suspect it got stuck during offroading or maybe during loading/ejecting. After this, the CD player worked fine again. I decided to remove all CD's and only put one inside when i actually want to listen to it. This should minimize the risk of getting stuck again.
  16. I’m not really a gamer but got some pretty old consoles at home that my kids love to play with. Most of them I got for free as they were collecting dust somewhere else: - Sega Master System. Love the classic games like Sonic. Nostalgia - PS2: we have all the singstar games so kids and sometimes myself love to karaoke the evening away. Also Buzz and some other cool stuff like the early GTA. -Nintendo Wii: only use it for playing Mario Kart with the kids. Never been impressed with it. -PS3: got this from my brother in law as he upgraded to PS4. Has GTA5 and some other really cool games, but more suitable for adults imho. If you want to game yourself, a PS4 or Xbox is definitely a great buy. If you want this to be a family thing then I’d recommend the older consoles or Nintendo switch. If you happen to have an Apple TV, there is also an option called Arcade that for a small subscription you can install and play some really nice games.
  17. “Toyota said it estimates only about 250 vehicles, or 0.5 percent, of the vehicles being recalled actually have faulty engines”. Imagine how many Toyota’s drive off the belt every single day. this is a ridiculous low amount. And also a proof that every manufacturer has a certain degree of manufacturing errors. Even the holy Toyota brand. Just sit for a minute and think about the number of parts involved in producing a modern vehicle. With lots of parts coming in from global supply companies that produce parts for Toyota.
  18. Living in Belgium i used to go to different concerts every month. When i moved to the Middle-East i was dissapointed about the lack of international artists and the poor organisation. I have a few bands on my bucket list that i definitely still want to see, and once this lockdown is over i am gonna dedicate myself to go and see them, even if that involves travelling. Life is too short to just sit and wait in a corner for opportunites to present themselves.
  19. It’s one of those things that I would never get installed aftermarket. Imagine something going wrong with it and not being able to disable it.
  20. Ouch that doesn’t sound very well. Have a look in the engine bay to see if nothing connected to the drive belt is hanging loose or hitting the fan. I don’t think it’s the engine itself, sounds more like a fan bearing or the fan clutch. When the engine is off try once to rotate the fan to see if the same sound is coming.
  21. Nice, can you give some feedback on which Software you are using ? Reason ?, FLStudio ? , Virtual Synths or real equipment ? Cubase ? I used to make similar Tech-House stuff some years back, with FLStudio and some VST's.
  22. OMG Hiren's boot CD. I didnt know this even still existed. I remember using either BartPE or Hiren's Boot CD to recover operating systems.
  23. Because i hardly print anything at home but had an inkjet printer that was always giving me troubles because the cartridges would dry out from sitting idle, i decided to buy a Samsung M2020 Black and White laser printer for 300dhs: https://www.noon.com/uae-en/xpress-sl-m2020-laser-printer-white-brown/N18407072A/p I was so happy with this little thing that i bought a second one later for my house in Belgium. Mainly to printout mails, flight tickets, concert tickets, and stuff like that while i am on vacation in Belgium. If Black and White printing is OK, i highly recommend this one. Its super fast, print quality is laser so very good, and was really cheap. The toner lasted a very long time too.
  24. @Melenany @Kalahari @Remco Snoek @Pancho @Chaitanya D @Colin Jordan @Cara Jordan @paolo dassi @Hariharan @Shiju Manuel @Jamy B. @Anvar Sadath Bekal @Lorenzo Candelpergher @Shamil @Javier M @Mohammed Osama Due to the current ongoing COVID-19 situation, with clear advice from the UAE government to stay at home at all times, we are canceling this off-road drive. I hope this gives time to the desert to heal itself, so we can appreciate the nature and virgin dunes after this COVID-19 situation normalizes. Looking forward to seeing you all soon.
