Hmmm the anri glare in the 5000 would make it worth the extra bucks. One of the things I hate about the stock screen is the glare, you can't see a thing at times.

Okay so here is what I have found. Firstly we need something like the pic below , which is available online and can be installed by any decent audio place (or yourself if you are handy) Then the dilemma really begins. There are aftermarket units that have CarPlay (for IOS lovers)and I've been recommended both Sony and Pioneer. The choice is very much dependent on your own needs. I personally want an upgrade to the stock system for better screen clarity and primarily for Gaia GPS. Therefore, screen quality(resolution) and ease/response of the touchscreen, is important and I still want all the features of the current system. With the units I have seen you simply attach your phone via usb and the device will mirror the phone. Therefore Gaia etc will work. I did look at some aftermarket navigation receivers but they don't appear to allow you to add maps. I'm all for Waze and Google but not when I'm up to my neck in sand in the middle of Lisalli, Therefore that option would appear to be obsolete. (please anyone correct me if I am wrong) Below are 2 units that other Xterra owners have recommended Sony-XAV-AX5000-Stereo-Receiver Pioneer-AVH-210EX

Pioneer or Sony ? mirror the phone or built in GPS? (Is that even a thing? ) the old unit will be replaced in its entirety , is it possible to have a perfect fit? I don’t want wobbles

I would like to change the standard system I have in the X for something that will support Gaia GPS and Apple Car play. @Nivin I hear from @Shamil that you have a pretty good set up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Drive report. It started off so well, we had some fun climbing the tall dunes of Shuwaib and everyone was comfortable and enjoying the drive. As we plotted our way around the tall dunes and towards the Iftar Bowl we met with an unfortunate incident, which I won’t discuss in detail here, however what I will say is a massive THANK YOU to the entire convoy who literally leapt into action to help our stricken member. You were all amazing and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. The sense of camaraderie and team spirit that Carnity is known for really shone through. Thanks again, until our next adventure.

Good evening fellow adventurers, Tomorrow's drive will hopefully have a bit of everything to suit all palettes. We will start off in the wonderful play area that is Shuweib and the lovely dunes that it has to offer. The plan is to then tackle some technical dunes and head towards the Iftar Bowl. It won't be all technical en route, we will face some challenging dunes, so please don't leave your wits at home I am being ambitious as I hope we get to play in two magnificent areas but as always the convoy will dictate the drive, so lets make sure we all have a good time, and remember to pack your sense of adventure as well as good humour . You have Yokohama Geolander ATS, the extra traction deflating by an extra 2PSI gives is quite telling. As Sri said, you will learn how best to build momentum with practice and understanding your car's response. As for losing momentum at the top of a climb, it is very much situation dependent , you can always wiggle the wheel to keep it going or drop down the gears.(if you aren't already in first) Practice is key and you'll get plenty more of it this coming Saturday
