Hi @Probir Mukherjee, This point about giving commentary on the recoveries is a good one, and in many cases, the drive lead will be able to give a description of what is happening in a recovery. In pre Covid times, we would often have people looking from a safe distance from the recovery - however that is not currently permitted. Where there is space, we may also invite drivers to close in on a reovery to watch from their vehicles. In the specific instances of this drive, the dunes were tight and recoveries complex. In that sort of situation, we need to keep the airwaves clear in case instructions need to be given by the senior leading the recovery and as the safety of the drivers and vehicles is paramount, 'in the moment' it's simply not possible to update other drivers that you know are all safe and can wait. As the third senior on this drive, I did not have any visual on the stuck cars - and would not have moved myself from the sweep position. Off road driving by its very nature has the risk of people getting stuck (even at the end of a drive on the flat - as you experienced) which does require patience and understanding from the other drivers. Education is very important, and we value the opportunity to educate where ever possible. Sometimes, however, circumstances do not allow for that.

Fantastic Fewbie Fun Leaving home in the middle of the night, when it is only just Friday morning requires a real commitment so it's always amazing to see the drivers arrive on time so we can get going quickly and enjoy the planned route. Leaving early meant that after our briefing, we did get a chance for a short time of dark running. It's a completely different experience to drive in the dark, and while the sun rises - evidenced by the first problem faced with three cars all stuck in the same pocket. @Jeandre Bezuidenhout found his own way out, @Heisem needed a little tug and @marks also managed to self recover and we were on the way again. Today's way took us through some of the longest stright dune ranges available in Dubai and were a great chance for some experimenting with slide sloping, climbing and control of the vehicle in soft sand. Everyone, from @Nivin to the sweep handled these dunes well - although, our poor sweep did need to fight his way through some really churned up sand at times as the FJ crew chewed up everything in front of them. Entering the technical dunes we saw that this type of challenge is still a worry for many drivers. Long sweepeing dunes are all well and good, but we cannot stay away from the technical always. Practice makes perfect, and we need to practice these more in future. Nor can we ignore that criss crossing is a difficult skill to master and it caught out many today. @Nivin had an absolutely perfect crest, @Islam Soliman had to be recovered, and from a distance it was clear to see that even the FJ crew of @David Ortells @marks @Christian Andras and @Heisem were not at their most comfortable approaching this type of challenge. But that's partly what the Fewbie drives are about. As Craig @h1fny said at the end of the drive (maybe not in these words), it's about the accumulated experience of drives and doing different things on them that makes each drive more fun. As a new Fewbie, @Nabil Bishara you did a great job with the speed and the complexity of the drive. Somehow, even though we have quite some refusals and stucks (thanks again for digging me out so I could recover) we were not standing by for any of them for too long, and I am delighted that new proper shovel owners got the chance to use their new tool [you know wo you are!]. Covering more than 40km in total is a testament to the quality of the convoy and the willingness to make this a fun and exciting drive. We were even blessed with reasonable temperatures throughout. I also think that the extra 15km drive to get to this starting point is more than justified by the chance to get into such fantastic sweepeing dunes so quickly. The only downside, if that can be called a downside is that the white sand is difficult to read in the high sun and at the end of the drive anyone without sun glasses was finding it more challenging to see where we were headed. As ever, big, big thanks to @Jeepie and @Brette for amazing support on the stucks and throughout the drive. Excellent second lead by @Nivin and a flawless sweep by @Jeandre Bezuidenhout. We were all lucky to have such a great support team on the drive, dealing with every challenge, quickly, calmly and carefully. See you soon in the sand.

Hi All, As a one off exception, we will add @marks to this drive on Friday morning. Unusually, it looks like Mark is the only driver in the club on wait list with no other drive available this weekend, so will be included in the drive (position 12). Jeandre will stay as sweep. Please confirm Mark that you read and noticed this message this evening so we will know whether or not to wait for you tomorrow morning. This means we will have a long convoy tomorrow morning and as a result will be relying on drivers to use their skills to the optimum. Have a wonderful day.

THIS DRIVE IS NOW CLOSED Here are the convoy positions for the drive on Friday Morning. Morning Fewbie Drive Qudra Quadrangle 28 Aug 2020 Attendees Level Car Radio Pos # Wrangeld Expert Jeep Wrangler Y 1 Lead Nivin Fewbie Nissan Xtrerra Y 2 2nd lead Islam Soliman Fewbie GMC Yukon Y 3 Nabil Bishara Fewbie Jeep Wrangler Y 4 Ahmed Farghaly Fewbie Nissan Xterra Y 5 Brette Advance Jeep Grand Cherokee Y 6 CF Tero Vallas Fewbie Toyota Landcruiser Prado Y 7 H1fny Fewbie Jeep Wrangler Y 8 Christian Andres Fewbie Toyota FJ Cruiser Y 9 David Ortells Fewbie Toyota FJ Cruiser Y 10 Heisem Fewbie Toyota FJ Cruiser 11 Jeandre Bezuidendhout Fewbie Jeep Wrangler SWB Y 12 SW We will be using Carnity Radio Channel 4. There are a number of Carnity drives in Qudra tomorrow morning, so please make sure you have your radio programmed correctly otherwise you could find yourself listening to the wrong convoy. Tools & Equipment: I will send drivers back who arrive tomorrow without the correct equipment. That means a shovel, flag (that stays erect on the vehicle), delfator, compressor etc. There have been too many people who 'forgot' to put equipment in the car, or could not find it at Dragon Mart recently. What to expect: Speed. We want to get moving and move at some pace tomorrow. If this is a problem for the convoy we will slow down, but this is a Fewbie drive and we will be driving at Fewbie pace. @Nivin @Christian Andras @David Ortells @Islam Soliman @Ahmed Farghaly @h1fny @Tero Vallas @Heisem @Nabil Bishara (reserve @marks) @Jeandre Bezuidenhout What to expect: Complexity. From Newbie to Fewbie, we increase the complexity, so be ready for a lot of slide sloping, criss crossing and higher dune climbs while on the move. We will also tackle technical dunes. You've done it all before, but this time we ramp up the intensity. What to expect: Self recovery. As a fewbie we expect you can self recover as a first line of action. Advise you have a refusal and then see if YOU can find the way out of the situation. Seniors will be there to assist, but at Fewbie it's assistance. As you see above, we still have one driver on the wait list - so if you did not pay attention to any of the previous messages and only read this, and for any reason cannot come, please advise ASAP. Otherwise, see you soon in the sand.

Good afternoon Qudra Quadranglers, Wednesday evening and an update as promised. @Jeandre Bezuidenhout @Nivin @Christian Andras @David Ortells @Islam Soliman @Ahmed Farghaly @h1fny @Tero Vallas @Heisem @Nabil Bishara (reserve @marks) We will be approaching Qudra from Bab Al Shams. Some of you have already started the drive from this spot before and this is a reminder that the start point is another 17km from Last Exit, so please add that to your drive planning so we are all ready on time. There are no street lights where we start deflating so please make sure you have a torch or other light so you can see your valves. It will be dark when we start. The drive starts with a track for the first 10 - 15 minutes before we hit the dunes. It should start to get light as we get to the dunes. If everyone is on time and we can leave promptly we will get into the dunes as quickly as possible so that we can do a bit of dark running. It's a completely different experience so worth getting up that 10 munutes earlier. Once underway, and depending on the convoy performance we will try to cover as much ground as possible and play the dunes, as well as do a little training on cross crossing. As fewbies, it's also important that you can handle technical dunes, so we will spend a little time crossing through some technical areas: The better you are in technical dunes, the easier you will find the more challenging drives because the secrets learned here of excellent power and control ratios will 'train' you for more challenging dunes complexes in other areas. With luck we can motor through multiple dunes, eventually making our way off road back to Last Exit and inflation. Any questions - please post them here. Anyone not able to come please let us know now as there is still a wait list. See you soon in the sand.

Good Afternoon Qudra Quadranglers, @Jeandre Bezuidenhout @Nivin @Christian Andras @David Ortells @Islam Soliman @Ahmed Farghaly @h1fny @Tero Vallas @Heisem @Nabil Bishara (reserve @marks) Congratulations on your choice of drive on Friday morning. The Qudra area has a lot of different challenges: from long wide dune plains to short technical dunes and everythign in between. It is also an area that can be easily ramped up or toned down depending on the ability of the convoy. For this reason, be ready Friday for some slide sloping, dune crossing and technical dune navigation that will challenge your skills and get you ready for more difficult conditions and dunes. Myself and @Brette the other senior on this drive are looking forward to seeing everyone. The plan is to play on the wide dunes for as long as we want, weaving back and forth and practicing criss crossing before making our way back to the Qudra lakes and dune complex. A quick reminder - if you don't have the right equipment with you, you don't drive. More to come. As ever, if you need to driop out of the drive, please advise ASAP - there is at least one driver eager to replace you in case you cannot make it.

THIS DRIVE IS NOW CLOSED. Posting on behalf of @Jeepie Good morning @Edgar @Islam Soliman @Christian Andras @Mehmet Volga @Jeandre Bezuidenhout @Nacho @Newton Rozario @Veedooshee @Nizam Deen @marks You are all confirmed for the drive in Qudra tomorrow morning. Here are the convoy numberings for the drive With a few new fewbies in the ranks this will be a chance for the more experienced Fewbies to support the drive a little more and get to grips with the challenges offfered by this part of the Qudra dune complex. The plan for the drive is to make the most of the long dunes in this area that allow for slide sloping and practice of crossing dunes in different ways. If for any reason you are unable to attend, please let us know as soon as possible. There are still members waitlisted for this drive who will appreciate a spot if you cannot make it. We will be using Carnity Radio channel 3.

On behalf of @Jeepie Thanks to everyone for signing up for the Friday morning drive. @Edgar @Islam Soliman @Christian Andras @Shiju Manuel @Mehmet Volga @Jeandre Bezuidenhout @Nacho @Newton Rozario @Veedooshee @Nizam Deen you are confirmed, however, as you have seen from the topic thread there is a lot of demand for this drive, so if there is any chance you cannot attend, please vacate your RSVP so that others can join the drive. The plan for Friday morning is to approach the Al Qudra area from the Abu Dhabi side of solar park where there are some nice long dunes for side sloping and excellent dune ranges where we can practice criss crossing and ridge riding a little. Depending on the convoy we will make our way into Solar Park and on to the Qudra area. If not we will finish the drive at the start point. Please note, this is a conpressor only drive. If you do not have a compressor then please sign out of the drive immedaitely as we will not redirect in the event that someone has no compressor. Please make sure as well you have all the equipment required for your level as this will be checked, along with tow points before we leave for the drive. We are lucky enough to have @Brette supporting the drive and will be looking for our more senior Fewbies to support the new Fewbies on this step up in drive intensity. See you soon in the sand.

Wrangeld replied to Gaurav's topic in Off-Road Club's Announcements
Wow @Lisa Pemberton great news. And really quick. Impressive. Must have been that excellent first drive that did it. Looking forward to driving with you again soon. -
@Chaitanya D Wanted to come back to you on the self recovery here. This wriggling, patient, calm way of getting yourself out of a whole lot of trouble on that hole was quite special for people to see. I am hoping that @Jun Zamora @Islam Soliman @h1fny @Neale Faulkner @Yousef Alimadadi @David Ortells @Christian Andras @Anish S @Mukundan Nair all saw how with a little bit of digging, and a lot of moving 1cm here or 1cm there, you eventually drove your car out of the bowl. Yes, you got yourself a little stuck because the power was a tiny bit too high, but you got out of the bowl yourself ... and with an audience. Well done.
