  1. @Tom B this method is a good one to lessen the impact , but not to prevent it if it happens. It is still practiced maybe not frequently or as routine but as the situation dictates when hard tug is anticipated or to pull a dead car. In this thread somewhere ( will try to find it ) will show another example when I was pulled using the safety belt
  2. always look at the slope from the side of the car after proper shovelling and not at the car how does it look front or back heavy . The last one is valid when the slope back and front has perfectly same angle or compensated for by the car tilt with horizontal. In the one above it’s forward moment and not reverse as might seems . if we presumed the opposite scenario then reverse yes
