  1. Well team, I've gone and done it. I have bought and fitted a Chronos 4x4 Traction control defeat switch. Why? mainly because it allows you to mimic a locker front diff by using TC to control front wheel spin when the trans is in 4Llc and diff lock engaged. Another benefit is that instead of popping the bonnet and removing the fuse for the TC/ABS/ASC I can now flick a switch and acheive the same effect. I know that I will enjoy this upgrade since twice now I have been out in the world (not on an off road jaunt) and had cause to drive off the tarseal in order to take a short cut and both times the Gadgero has more or less refused to move believing that all the wheels are spinning and just bogging down and groaning in distress. Now I can hit the switch and getterdun!!! I am off to paradise (Sweihan) on Friday morning so I will report back on the success or otherwise of my folly. Wish me luck.
  2. Thanks Fred, yes I agree. The weight out behind the rear axle provides a pendulum effect which assists the LWB in a sharp turn. Traveling mid pack and toward the rear I often use the berms to assist in turning the little gold sand plow😂
  3. I'm going to stick my neck out and state with some sureity that I have found my SWB steers better in hard driving conditions in 4HLc. Reasoning: The big difference between the LWB and SWB is 400kg weight advantage, all of this is obviously over the rear axle resulting in better weight balance front to rear for the LWB. This is possibly even moreso in the 3.8 engined models. These missing kilos shift the weight balance heavily toward the nose of the SWB and in any vehicle in any conditions, this results in understeer. In my Carnity experience, this results in my having to take different lines around turns from long wheelbase vehicles and those with better weight balance. I find my car washing out in tight turns and wanting to take a much wider line, especially in tight uphill turns (such as when circumventing pockets), my front axle wants to fall in and I have to aim high. When ridge running, I have to be very careful to take a higher line than other vehicles or my front axle will pull the car down slope resulting in a refusal because I missed the line or crossover point. For the last two weeks, I have taken to 4HLc and find that the extra power directed to the front tyres results in better turn in and more assured traction in the turns resulting in tighter lines and less 'understeer induced driver error'. Discuss.
  4. What an interesting morning! You just know that the drive is going to challenge you when you get a refusal on the road approaching the meeting point!🤣 Thanks to @Ale Vallecchifor organising and leading an enthralling drive along the crest of the world. Lots of difficulties were encountered and lots of lessons learnt. Cheers to @Darren Brookewho was working hard at sweep and to @Alain Canivet-Abikhaliland @Nivin for ably assisting. I for one enjoyed it even if my energy was starting to sag after 4 hours of wheel sawing and dune reading in the glaring sunlight. Got some good air and some pretty hard landings but nothing broke so I guess the Gadgero has yet more to give... Looking forward to the next ridgefest for sure.
  5. Thanks @marksfor a technical and challenging drive, I am feeling it in my shoulders already! Lots of nadgery little dunes with sharp crests and soft bowls, slow and intense. Great work from @Russearning his money at CF, I always knew where he was, even if I couldn't see him... BRAAAAAAAAAAPPP! Thanks for sweeping @Nabil Bishara I didn't see much of you but it sounded like you were busy. The sand was chopped up pretty well by the time we tail enders got to it and there were refusals aplenty, all part of the fun.
  6. Oh no! I'm following a Raptor... gotta remember to bring my ear defenders then😂
  7. Great drive today thank you @Vanessa8580and @Srikumaryou co-led us to a fun. challenging and exciting fewbie drive. Lots of stucks and refusals, lots of laughs and a lot of air! A beautiful if slightly foggy 25 degree 5 am morning quickly escalated to a 42 degree 10 am so I am happy we didn't have to do any digging... Thanks also to @Luca Palanca Falsini, @Ruan van den Heeverand @Xavier Treasurerfor stepping up into the administrative roles at short notice. Nice to see the rope being put to good use *cough. Special mention for @Zed whose monster hydrocarbon smashing luxury barge smashed the path flat for me whilst spewing oxides of nitrogen right and left. Was fun to watch.
  8. I love this club! The ethic and brotherhood (and sisterhood sorry) on display is consistently top shelf👍👍👍
  9. Hi Yousef, I did not request waitlisting for this drive. You can remove my name. Thank you.
  10. Oops! my mistake sorry, 4H is 30/70 4HLC is 50/50
  11. Think in terms of “what am I trying to achieve?” 4Hlc gives 50/50 power distribution and 4H gives 30/70 front rear so if you are climbing, your weight distribution shifts rearward and 4H is better. If you are on extra soft flat sand or (lol) snow, and the going is tough, 4Hlc will do better. As for power? Need more? Shift down a gear. Know where your engines torque peak is and try to work at or near those revs.
  12. A thousand thanks @Tbone for the wonderful drive ably assisted by @Janarthan @Ruan van den Heeverand @Xavier Treasurer. To be in Sweihan to see the sunrise is in itself, treat enough but to then get to bash those virgin dunes as well? Priceless! Good job everybody, we had a good selection of stucks, refusals and pop-outs to learn from and a lovely mild morning in which to deal with them. I look forward to driving with you all again soon.
  13. Oh dear, 2.5 tonnes and only 325Nm of torque? This is why it doesn’t sell anymore, engines stuck in the 1980’s😡
  14. I have Geolandar 15’s in 265/65/18. No pop outs yet inshallah. No rubbing but it is VERY close on the front, I have 40mm lift kit, if it wasn’t fitted the tyres would probably interfere lightly. PM me for supplier, they are readily available.
  15. My hearty congrats to you, your mothership and her golf clubs!
