  3. Thank you @Simon D for a great drive yesterday morning. The drive was well prepared, and nicely executed.the first portion from Tawi Nizwa, out of the beaten tracks was really enjoyable for a start, and the pace was perfect for a warm up for the whole convoy. Higher dunes were tempting, but the soft sand made it difficult for the back of the convoy and you reasonably decided to turn back in direction to Pink Rock. Despite the cross tracks we could enjoy a few high climbs, well executed by everyone in the convoy, according to the capabilities of their cars. During the break we noticed one man waving at us close to his car. We reached him with @Simon D. It was a lonely unexperimented driver, who tried to follow our convoy for a few dunes…. And got crested. After a quick pull, and some recommendations, we put him back on an easy track and could continue the drive. Simon took us across the Pink Rock and we were going up and down on the back side when the second incident occurred. A motorised paraglider came quite low over us and was intending to cross the mountain when it missed the summit ridge by a few meters and hit the ground. Simon took @Mahmut as passenger and could reach him first. @Robk was already halfway and courageously continued to climb by foot. I reached them immediately after. We checked on the guy who appeared to be globally ok, apart from a pain in the knee and ankle on one leg. He could stand so carefully we helped him to Simon's car to bring him down. Mahmut helped folding the wing and put it in my car, and we were left with the propeller, big thing weighting 30 kg, to be kept upwards to avoid leaking fuel. Luckily Rob's Gladiator was already half way in the slope. We carried the propeller down to the truck and strapped it at the back. The guy was still doing ok, and wanted to reach his car parked in Badayer, so we decided to keep him with us, and Simon adjusted his planned route accordingly. The rest of the drive was a nice stroll through the dunes, quietly reaching the big dune behind Big Red where we started to climb until the convoy got scattered between two soft bowls with other convoys crossing around. @Simon D skilfully put the convoy back in order, and we reached the exit close to Big Red. Excellent lead and management of the convoy from @Simon D, congratulations! @Mahmut well done through the drive. You struggled crossing some slip faces but it will improve as you get sync with your car. @Feras_Sh well managed also. The Pajero was under powered compared to the rest of the convoy and you had 2 passengers, but you did your best, and went through most challenges. @Robk well done with the Gladiator. You have good control of your car, continue to enjoy ! @Ben Lee no issue at all, the Jeep went easily through the dunes and climbs. Unfortunately considering the different situations, you did not have the opportunity to take all the challenges, it will be for next time. @Ranjan Das, great support in guiding other cars when need, alway a pleasure to have you in the convoy. Thank you all for the great support and participation in the different recoveries of this eventful drive !

  12. Dear Desert Drivers, Yes unfortunately, the end of the drive was a bit abrupt. @Bravoecho hopefully you can soon get back on the sand. Yes, a bit low on the ridge, the track a bit churned, and a combination of early fishtail, one wheel on the other side of the ridge, made the car spin and rotate perpendicular to the ridge, and then the middle of the car got stuck as per your photo, and the car flipped. Thankfully you were unhurt, and congratulations for keeping your positive attitude after the roll. Before that, it was a drive close to perfect, (despite @Gary F's mechanical issue). Nice dunes, unexplored area, beautiful morning light, and a team of very good drivers. The ride was spiced with a few high climbs, a big bowl that was tackled by each of you with determination and control, a special ridge, like descending into the void, and a few others. @Shahid Mehmood, @Waqar Sarwar, congratulations for your first Fewbie Plus, you went through the challenges with great concentration and control. Nathan @Stumpy Paj, thank you for the second lead and support, good to see you with @Bravoecho after a long time, @Lawrence_Chehimi, @Ashutosh Garg, welcome back in the sand, hope to see you in many drives this winter, @Gertjan @Gary F, thank you for watching the back of the convoy.

  19. Dear Desert Drivers Thank you for joining the drive this morning. It was a long convoy, and you managed to keep your focus and concentration whatever your position. No stuck, a few minor refusals, it shows your capabilities, going through the dunes, despite the bums and bushes that are difficult to avoid in this area. After a warm up in this nice environment, we reached the long ridges, where the words "control your car" take a specific meaning. As we have all experienced starting on a wide flat ridge is nice and easy, when the ridge becomes sharp and narrow, when its going up, or down, when it is turning, it becomes another story, and keeping the balance of the the car requires your full skills and concentration. You did all very well at this, the most important being to keep the control, and to go down safely when you feel you are not making it. We kept enjoying until @Joseph Raju and @Faraz94 got crested (thank you @Cha for the quick tug). it was probably a sign to move to something else. After a small technical portion, we finished the drive in a nice and easy rolling set of white dunes, before joining the sabkha and looping back to our starting point. Thank you @Joseph Raju for the second lead, @Richard Franks for the sweep (even if you were so far behind, I couldn't hear you on the radio), @Cha for great support from the middle, keeping the convoy together. @lucas amat @Faraz94 @Sreenath G @essam ibrahim @Dan S @Mahesh_ @Stan very well driven, adjusting your driving according to the capabilities of your cars. For the more experienced drivers, @Bjoern, @Waqar Sarwar @Zulfikhar Naiyar thank you for joining and supporting the convoy with excellent team spirit!
