We started the drive with a short warm-up section before heading deeper into the Al Adlah dunes for a proper night run. The conditions were great, with soft fresh sand and mostly untouched lines throughout the area. The convoy settled into a nice rhythm early on, linking together long ridge sections and flowing criss-crosses through the bigger dunes. Visibility was challenging at times, as expected on a new moon night drive, but everyone maintained good spacing and communication on the radio which kept the convoy moving smoothly. There were a few refusals during the drive, mostly on some of the softer technical climbs, but recoveries were handled quickly with good teamwork from the group. The technical sections added a nice balance to the faster flowing terrain and gave everyone a chance to practice car control and momentum management in the dark. As the night went on, confidence across the convoy grew noticeably and the pace picked up through some of the longer dune ranges, linking some ridges and doing some blind high crosses across a few bowls. Overall, it was a really enjoyable drive with good convoy discipline, plenty of ridge riding, and a fun mix of technical and flowing terrain to finish the night. We have a number of gates to find and pass through, and some very unusual terrain in the way that the dunes have formed. I have previously done a recce through here with @ChrisW and it is certainly some challenging terrain, but with some excellent rewards. DRIVE DESCRIPTION I'll be attempting this drive again after exiting early after 2 hours the other week 😅😅😅😅 We’ll be starting in Salamat, Al Ain, working our way through a fast-paced, high line desert terrain, before heading north towards one of the UAE’s most recognisable playgrounds: The Old Lady dune. This drive will be paced at IM level, with a focus on maintaining momentum, clean convoy flow, and confident decision-making at pace. Expect a mix of ridge riding, long climbs, bowl loops, multiple quick switches, and fast open sections. This is not a sightseeing cruise — it’s a fast, focused, and engaging Intermediate drive for drivers who are comfortable keeping pace, reading terrain ahead, and managing their car confidently in soft sand and in high temperatures. I recommend to not bring passengers unless they are used to very high fast pace driving. They said nobody makes it out of Al Adlah after dark. They were wrong. Under the cover of darkness, a small convoy of heavily overconfident drivers will attempt the impossible: a full-throttle escape through cursed ridgelines, haunted sabkhas, and soft powder so deep it has claimed axles, bumpers, and entire egos. Engines will roar. Tyres will scream. Compressors will overheat. This is an all-out desert survival spectacle featuring: high-speed ridge warfare blind crests of doom violent side-slopes and at least one completely avoidable refusal caused by “just a little bit more throttle.” Once the convoy enters Al Adlah, there are only two outcomes: legendary escape… or become a permanent waypoint. We rolled out into the dunes early in the morning with cool temperatures, soft sand, and beautifully clean terrain waiting for us. The convoy settled in quickly, with @Diego earning the honours of the first refusal of the drive — a gentle reminder that Fayah was going to demand focus from everyone right from the start. The pace steadily built as we linked ridgeline after ridgeline, carving across some beautifully technical terrain. I got a little too ambitious on one long curved ridge and ended up beautifully crested on both diffs. @Zsolt and @Hani crest king jumped straight into action with the shovels, working hard to free the car before @Rob S delivered the final pull with the rope to get things moving again. A couple more refusals followed later in the drive as the convoy kept pushing through the soft technical sections. One thing became very clear throughout the morning — we did a lot of ridgelines. The convoy flowed smoothly across countless connected crests and criss-crosses, making full use of the terrain while keeping excellent spacing and momentum. Midway through the drive we paused for a short break after experiencing some GPS jamming overhead, most likely caused by fighter jets operating in the area. It definitely added a slightly more chaotic vibe to the drive for me as the navigation systems briefly lost its mind. After the break we continued deeper into the technical zone, where a popout gave the team another opportunity to demonstrate great teamwork and quick recovery skills before carrying on. Thanks @Mehmet Volga and @Rob S for sorting the tyre and getting us going again. To finish the drive, we headed into the desert safari area for one final playful session in the churned-up dunes before wrapping up at 10:35 AM after a fantastic morning of technical ridge riding, teamwork, and nonstop desert fun. Managed to fix up and remove the visit into the ocean from the GPS Spoofing which started towards the end of the drive. We covered about 50km which is good in only two hours! As you can see, we have SO MUCH MORE of Khatim to explore! (This was the initial recorded track)
