We just came back(31.05-1.06 was very busy and miss you all guys, can't wait when will see you all again) from a magical one-day/one-night mini-trip to Snake Gorge Canyon in Oman, and I can’t wait to share it with Carnity community!
🚗 The Journey Begins
We set out early on Saturday morning with my boys, and after about 8 hours, we crossed the border into Oman. Traffic was nearly non-existent—maybe because it was early, or because Eid was a week away.
🛣️ On the Road
The highway after the border was a bit monotonous, but once we turned toward the mountains, the real adventure began. We passed Al Hazm Fort and an Omani local even suggested we check it out—unfortunately that was on Day 2 and time was tight.
⛰️ Into the Wadi
The last 30–40 minutes to our destination was pure Wadi and mountain switchbacks. My Expedition was cruising in 4A without a hitch, while the Pajero and LC pickup shifted into 4L more than once. This was my first tough-road experience, and wow—the views were breathtaking. On the way back, I made a few stops just to soak it all in. Looking down? Terrifying! XD
🏠 Arrival & Exploration
We reached our guest house, had a hearty lunch, and prepped for the hike. Since my younger son is only six, we chose the shorter 6 km trail—and it was absolutely perfect.
💧 Canyon Fun
Given that it hadn’t rained in over six months, there were tons of deep, clear pools in the canyon. The kids were ecstatic, and so was I—especially in the sweltering 40 °C heat, the cool water felt incredible.
👶 Father–Son Bonding
For the final kilometer out of the canyon, I carried my younger boy on my back whenever rocks allowed. He’d been so excited—stayed up late, woke up early, and didn’t nap a single second during the drive
Leaving
The next morning, we woke up, stretched lazily, had breakfast, and set off to explore an village site—more like a charming little town, really. After our stroll through narrow streets and old walls, we decided it was time to head back. But first, we swung by a car wash—our black SUV came out looking more like ash-gray than black! Then we grabbed lunch at a nearby pizzeria and struck up a conversation with a friendly local.
This short trip didn’t give us the full luxury of a slow-paced mountain retreat in Oman, but escaping the hustle and bustle of Dubai—especially with my sons—has quickly become one of my favorite recent memories!
✅ Final Thoughts
I definitely recommend visiting Snake Gorge Canyon. If you’re up for more action, try the full canyon route—it’s even more exhilarating, with 40 m rope descents and pools deep enough to swim for 15–30 minutes depending on rainfall.
If you’re into a quick but unforgettable outdoor escape, Snake Gorge in Oman is an absolute must!
