Big thank you to @Emanuel for leading this amazing trip, working together with @Andrew John Melvill, @vinayak n and @Dipu Francis to give us mere Fewbies a ride to remember! Fantastic scenery, great dunes and surely have learned a thing or two, maintaining momentum throughout the sweeping climbs in little and big red and trying some (forgiving) crests between Tawi Nizwa and Pink Rock. Spectacular fun going up Pink Rock and on the hillclimb at Big Red. The freshly-burnt Nissan was sort of a highlight as well, its molten aluminum being my daughter’s newest desert trophy. Emanuel, thanks again for the drive, congrats on the 100th ride and most of all congrats on the anniversary.

Good evening, I’m going to have to cancel. Work got in the way, flying back in overnight and just too tired. Not smart to take a long drive in the heat. Dragracers have immense power with explosive starts and insane grip (sticky tires after a burn out, sometimes even sticky stuff on the pavement. Don’t know if you ever walked on an official drag strip, but sometimes you feel it stick under your shoes), meaning that sometimes the traction asphalt-tire doesn’t break before the tire-rim traction gives a little, that’s why they have beadlocks in the higher classes. Google-knowledge says ‘from 800hp on’. Not likely on loose sand indeed, with less power and having it distributed over 4 wheels. You’d suffer more from it in 2wd accelerating away at the traffic lights. So it’s a very unlikely source of smell indeed, but as you mentioned it I guess one chalk line is a simple check. Easy check for rotation on the rim, do what (some) dragracers (used to) do: Draw or paint a radial line over rim and tire, and see at the end of your drive if they still line up.

@Luke K P I just recently found this topic, really good one to read up on! @Andrew John Melvill These ridges are a bit above my level still, but if I understand you well it is critical when going up to first have the ridge lined up with the centerline of the car, two wheels on each side, before going down the other side

Turned so sharp the forward motion was changed to sideways (centrifugal) force very sudden, and as the front wheels had no more traction they couldn’t ‘pull’ the car forward anymore so it quickly lost even more forward speed. Sharp ridge meant quick build-up of resistance digging the side in, not just the back wheels.
