Ever driven in Niqa Al Dheeb?

Me either.

This one is exploratory by design. I’ve spent some time scouting the area from satellite imagery, picking out what looks like promising terrain — now it’s time to find out what’s actually waiting for us on the ground.

The mission is simple: explore, map and unlock new areas for future play.

It could be full of vegetation, dead ends and awkward terrain. Or we might stumble across kilometres of untouched ridgelines just waiting to be driven. There’s only one way to find out.

Expect scouting, backtracking, rerouting and plenty of figuring things out as we go. Together, we’ll push into unfamiliar territory, establish the limits of the area and see what Niqa Al Dheeb has to offer.

No established route. No expectations. Just exploration.

Hey Guys,
Good news and Bad news..
The BAD NEWS  is that I have a seized starter motor and wont have the car ready by sunday.

The GOOD NEWS is that the drive will go ahead thanks to @ChrisW stepping up to take over while my car has a spa day :-P

Hey guys - ahead of tomorrow morning's drive - please see the drive order and plan.

Let's aim to arrive by 06.30 and rolling by 06.45 latest. The only caveat to that is I am expecting bad fog tomorrow morning - if that's the case, do allow some extra time, but also no need to rush and taking any risks on the roads. Basically do your best but if the fog is bad, no problem, we'll wait and move together.

We will stick with Luke's plan, so meeting north of the Tilal roundabout (Meeting Point: https://maps.app.goo.gl/YyPjtjPMbgUie3YVA, Meeting Co-ords: 24.440754, 55.193496), and then we'll track a short distance north to clear the farms and initially sweep to the east to discover what that section of terrain is like. We'll then use a farm track to move back to the west, and repeat a sweep heading east in the area further to the north.

It may be good, it may be terrible - either way we'll put our skills to the test together and either find a new area for the club to play in, or mark another area of the map as being only for the brave! We'll aim to finish by around 09.30 (so approx three hours of driving or so).

Looking forward to seeing you all in the morning! Any problems, I am on: Zero Five Zero, 565, 90, Two Seven.

Radio: Channel 10 (446.231-25)

Extremely thick fog this morning. No need to rush. We’ll be waiting for it to clear a bit as the sun comes up.

Hey guys, thanks for coming out this morning!

We all arrived in good time to then try and wait for the fog to burn off. Giving it until around 07.30, we decided to go take a look with probably around 50 metres of visibility.

The first stretch of sand we tackled as more of an overlanding drive, initially covering some fairly flat terrain and discovering larger and more defined dunes as we moved east. I think in clear weather there’s potential for some good ridges here, albeit there was a good amount of vegetation off the crests.

We then hit a farm track and stopped for a while to see if the weather would clear. It didn’t especially, so we moved off again - heading west to backtrack before re-entering the sand to work our way north-east. This area was far trickier, with many fenced off areas. Just as the fog lifted a bit we did find a limited area with some bigger dunes and had a play. It was good to at least rev the engines a bit before finishing.

We then headed out via the tracks and inflated by the camel racetrack.

All in all it was useful to explore the area, and I was able to map a few fence lines and entry points for us. You all drove very well, and I was pleased to see everyone driving safely and considerately given the conditions. Thank you!
