Should I trust a friend to install my alarm system?

I'm pretty hooked on the idea of getting a new Toyota for myself, so I'm gonna ask the question in this forum :) 

 

Is it safe to let a friend of mine install an alarm system on my car? Or are these supposed to be installed by an expert? He does have an alarm system, says he's gonna just give it to me as a gift, and it comes with instructions and all.. but I don't know.. what do you car experts think?
