Cluncking Sound from Rear wheels side while switching gear between D to R

Hi. 

Can any one tell me about exact issue in pajero v6. A cluncking sound comes when I swtich gear from D to R and R to D. This is common issue in pajero. Some says broken rear differential bushing.  But mine seens intact. Some says dry axel joints. Some says hub bearing. Please share if any one has fixed this issue in Pajero

I have heard a similar noise, mine seems to be worn out rear diff bushes. Getting them changed on Saturday. Will see if that solves it on my car.

If the noise + jerk only comes while shifting from D to R and R to D, its gear mount or engine mount needs to be checked first and replace if they are torn or even have a hairline crack.

If the noise continues, while driving as well then it could be something else.

This sound comes only once when drive mode changes. Once already you are on same drive mode then no sound, like every time from P to D or N to D no sound. But if D to R then Clunck comes from rear wheels side. My differential bushes /mounts are ok

Did you sort it out? I had the same issue on my previous Pajero the sound and vibrations was very dominant. My current one (Pajero SWB 2006) is slowly showing signs for the same. I have changed all the mounts except for the Gear mount as the mechanic said it was looking fine. Also have you experience a small clunk effect when you accelerate sudden, little heavy, from idle.

Gear mounts are the main reason, ask your mechanic to remove and inspect, because if it has hairline crack, they dont soak the jerk from D to R but looks fine when you inspect them visually.

Hi @Zac No Bro tomorrow I m planning to go to sort this issue and I am quite sure this is due to dry axel joints because we observed this sound comes from wheels side not from any other side. I shall post if i get solution

Hi Gaurav, the jolt effect or grinding just before the gear shifts, basically it happens once you hit above 2000rpm, was solved by changing the Gear mount and the Support mounts. Thank you for the advice

I have solved this issue by tightening the rear Axel nuts , A mechanic suggested this then we did . We loosen the nuts first then movex axels in and out from axel nuts area then retightened the nuts of axels . Then magically sound gone. 😁

Hi can you please share the contact of the workshop and mechanic name. I have a pajero now that's doing the same thing and it's very annoying. The thud feels through the whole car when changing drive train D to R or R to D
