Thanks everyone, I really enjoyed today! It was quite a simple drive plan today, but we got our fill of climbs, bowls, loops, technical, ridges and switches. Special thanks to @J-P L and @Deepak Eswar for the support and @khurramm in 2nd lead. The big trucks of @Khalid Sharaf and @Jerome gave a good soundtrack to the drive especially while dominating Iftar Bowl. @Ana and @Shary drove briliantly especially during the deep bowl recovery. The route today We also completed the 3rd volume in the short sharp series completing the middle portion of the route.

DRIVE DESCRIPTION For those who have the fear of being trapped in technical tight dunes, this drive is for you to face your fears and learn how to master the challenging technical terrain and get out of it with a big smile. The aim of the day will be to maintain momentum in the technical style of "as slow as possible and as fast as necessary". Steering and throttle control will be essential to keep moving through the tight dunes. My very 1st Fewbie drive was in this area on a drive led by Islam Soliman who was a legend in his Black Yukon, this drive is to re-create what I learned on that drive and pass it on. Due to the terrain, I have made this an 8-car convoy. 6. AI gives the VQ38DD a 15 to 20 % chance but expects some kind of hybrid supported 4 cyl turbo as the petrol option. But for now, only the diesel is available. Good engine for overlanding style driving. The nissan VQ engine would be awesome for the GCC and already here as the base engine on the current Patrol.
  7. Welcome to Carnity, looking forward to seeing you on some drives soon.

Not at all, any Fewbie or above can join.
  9. Congratulation @Rasna, your quiet and humble approach does not disguise your obvious skill in taming your Jeep. Enjoy the new level!

  13. Thanks @_luke_ and @Frederic for the prompt and great advice. Have a bit more direction now. Still have to make the final calls! Cheers Andrew
  14. Hi All I have been looking at fitting some off-road lights to my Pajero, but the more I research the more confused I get! So, any advice would be welcome. I am looking for a set up that will allow me to bring a convoy out of the desert if we get stuck until after dark, as well as for camping trips, joining a night drive as support, etc. So not for dedicated hard core night driving. My eyesight is affected by glare so a set up that prevents any glare off the bonnet will be preferred. Current thinking is as follows: 1. Bumper mounted spots or short light bar - which would work best and mounting options? 2. A pillar mounted ditch or side shooter light pods - size, light color, how to prevent glare, etc? 3. Rear mounted work light for vision during night recoveries, camping etc. 4. Wiring and switch panel in the cabin? 5. Trying to keep the budget within reason, hopefully within 2000 aed all in? Will this be possible while still using half decent options? 6. ADIHEX starts this weekend, so there might be some good deals available? Cheers Andrew
  15. Hi For those of you that are keen I will be posting a drive for the 6th that links the first two short sharp drives together and should give us a chance to put the learnings from the 1st two drives into practice. Cheers Andrew
  16. Drive report 1st thanks for being on time allowing us to get away shortly after 6am. We had a good start talking about and practicing climbs. Each car is a bit different when it comes to gearing and power sweet spots. Knowing yout car only comes with practice. From there we had a technical section before the dunes opened up again. Here we had more chances to practise climbs along with ridge riding, switches and how to get out of bowls! To @Sandeep Padhi, @Enrico - Mountain, @Ana, @Lazy Frog, @Rajath Shetty and @khurramm some really good driving from all especially as we pushed your limits on occasions. To @Frederic, @Ishak, @J-P L and @JC_E would never have been able to do this drive without you. Always a pleasure to drive with every one of you.
  17. Afternoon All @Frederic, @Sandeep Padhi, @Enrico - Mountain, @Ishak, @Ana, @Lazy Frog, @Mahesh_, @Rajath Shetty, @khurramm, @JC_E and @J-P L Really nice convoy for tomorrow morning! We will be heading to a beautiful star dune close to the entry point to spend some time practicing climbs before we drive through to the Badayer shops exit point via super bowl and iftar bowl. The sand will be soft and the weather will be hot, so please ensure that you and your vehicles are fully prepared. We will be using CH 4 on the drive Please be at the meeting point in time for a briefing at 06h00 so that we can maximize the time in the dunes before it gets too hot. https://maps.app.goo.gl/P2f2yg3bqu1apLeNA
