Jeep vs truck

Interesting topic @Noufal. it is a can of worms you are opening since Wrangler owners will have a hard time accepting that there is a new King of the Dune in the desert :). That being said, my only feedback to you is that while i agree that Wranglers have more "Off-the-Shelf" customization options available in the market, nothing stops you from customizing an RR. You can simply conceptualize, design and execute as you wish in Dubai. You are only limited by your imagination. Happy to show you a customized RR next time we meet and maybe that would help you see the Art of the Possible for the RR.

One question for you, any specific reason why are you are lost between the two, personally from a performance point of view, i do not see a basis for comparison as they are 2 completely different vehicles with different points of strength. i think it all comes down to what do you do more: driving on dunes or rock crawling. I could be over simplifying it and ill wait for others to comment but i think that is what it comes down to.

Just adding some fuel to the fire here, for entertainment purposes (but with a grain of truth to it):

Whilst the Ranger is crested and the Jeep is getting new parts fitted, the FJ just drives you home. Or -if so desired- over the next dune.

(And modding options are endless, off-the-shelf superchargers included)

(but in all honesty, I do somehow find myself wanting a short(ish) wheelbase 1st Gen 6.2 V8 F150 Raptor)

Blasphemy ! Who said RRs get crested on a regular basis ? Hard to believe!

I love the fire you are throwing and to your point i think the FJ is a very very solid third position. The new King is still sitting on the throne until a new vehicle comes out. I am getting my popcorn now :)

@Noufal and @_Herman_ your points gave me an idea. I will do a THEMED drive to debate the Offroading King over breakfast. I just need a couple of weeks as i am tied down for 2 weeks. Keep an eye out for this drive. We will finish the debate there :)

As you guys will know I drive often with @Luke K P here in AD, both for Carnity and we’ve done a number of recce drives up here in the evenings etc, so I’ve watched both our cars tackling a lot of terrain back to back.

I can appreciate the RR’s cabin, bed capacity and power. It’s a car you can easily cruise at 140 on the highway in peace, and on the sand you can push hard. You can take a lot out with you easily.

I feel the Jeep can get in and out of places that many cars can struggle with - with a small lift and some suspension changes, it rides the sand incredibly well. The breakaway angles, clearance and articulation are difficult to beat.

I feel the Raptor is more biased towards being a reliable road car, and the Jeep is slightly compromised by being a pure 4x4. The Raptor’s front IFS is a weak point, and it has a comparatively small fuel tank. Clearance can be an issue as well. The Jeep’s steering car be vague on the road, and you have to very carefully manage your speed/momentum/power on the sand to get the most out of the 3.6L normally aspirated engine. The Jeep can be prone to niggling maintenance issues, but the large availability of OEM and aftermarket parts, and capable local garages, means most issues are an easy fix.

On the road I think the Raptor is easily the best choice. As a daily driver with occasional off-roading I would also pick the Raptor. For off-roading I am torn…I regard my Jeep as a great project car and a capable off-roader…I’d love more power and space too…

In the end you won’t be making a mistake either way. Go drive both and get the one that makes you smile.

In defence of the Jeep however…this run down to the star dunes led by @GauravSoni was by far one of the best drives I’ve ever done, in part because of the sheer sense of adventure in transforming my Jeep into what was basically a buggy and tearing into the desert. Trips like this help you overlook a lot of downsides!

At the end of the day @Noufal nothing beats time in the seat for how far ur car will take you.

both of these cars , and lots of others, will give you amazing fun in the desert and take you everywhere.

Pick whichever U like best 😎

Great topic, I love the RR for its comfort, suspension, power & on road handling. The last may seem strange or not very significant but daily driving it on the road with great handling and minimal road noise is a big plus

The downside for me mainly are of course the longer wheelbase and the CV joints. The former takes some attention to avoid cresting and bottoming out while the latter has made me far more cautious e.g coming over a dune and having to immediately make a sharp turn where the car frontal weight transfers to a single wheel

My front left side makes a creaking sound during these faster descents and turns, I may have to ask tech to take a look at the joints

Jeeps are awesome and if I hadn’t been advised by friends due to reliability issues I would definitely have gone with the 392

Jeep is a way of life. Ford Trucks? The only lifestyle I saw in Texas was people hanging rubber nut sacks from the tow hook. Hope this answers almost all 😁😁😁

@Eddie-Dune-Glider i have the exact same creaking noise from drivers side suspension since day 1 with the car. no amounts of grease, silicone lube, or  suspension component changes have removed it. if you find a solution let me know pls
