Jeep vs truck

Recommended Posts

I really like the Ranger Raptor and would personally prefer it over a Jeep Wrangler. But few things to consider:

1. A truck bed is something you might have to get used too.

2. The Jeep has a strong solid front axle, while one of the weaker points of the Raptor is the front CV axles because it's IFS (Independent Front suspension).

3. Reliability is debatable amongst those two, but parts availability would be better in Jeep for sure.

Jeep vs RR is basically choosing between a mountain goat and a caffeinated cheetah. Both are built to get you into places you probably shouldn’t be, they just disagree on the correct speed to do it.

A Wrangler is the classic “proper 4x4” vibe. It’s happiest when things get slow, technical, and awkward—rocks, ruts, steep climbs, and that whole crawl-and-commit lifestyle, but also very capable in the sand. It also has that weirdly addictive Jeep charm: doors off, roof off, endless customization, and the sense that you’re driving something that belongs in the bush more than the mall parking lot. It’s not always the calmest thing on-road, but it feels purpose-built and unapologetic. @ChrisW can attest to this...

A RR is more like a factory-built off-road weapon you can live with every day. It’s comfortable, planted, and thrives on the fast, rough stuff—dunes, gravel, desert tracks, corrugations—where you want the suspension to do the thinking while you just point it at the horizon and grin. It’s also a “truck” in the practical sense, which is either a huge win or an annoyance depending on whether you like the truck-bed lifestyle. @Luke K P will also say that the Raptor is most at home on the top of a crest, while providing adequate "shovel-time" for everyone around.

So yeah… both are solid choices. The deciding factor is simple and annoyingly adult; what is the purpose of the vehicle for you, don't rush into any decisions, do tons - and I mean TONS of research to make an informed decision.

if I was buying again,.. I would still go for ranger. 😎

@Frederic is right,.. parts much more available for the Jeep(esp aftermarket accessories), but this is changing as more rangers get on the road and al tayer/ford are supporting parts better.

I only had a 1 day wait for parts the last time i broke something.

The CV axle is certainly the weak point compared to the solid axle... but i treat my car pretty harshly and it has held up mostly well to the punishment.

I do get jealous when I see @ChrisW removing the roof and doors when driving his jeep though....😁

@JC_Eits actually fake news that i get crested on EVERY single drive... there has been one or two i have made it through without getting stuck 😜

TLDR; GET A RANGER!

Hey JC you did help me but again put in a loop of debate.
this is be my second car mostly for my self as i have other car for the family.
it is indeed a hassle to park at the mall and elsewhere.

jeep with endless customization is most tempting as it will keep you busy for most of the time while the RR is limited in upgrades.

jeep as a dealer for service is good and customer friendly.

one more thing i heard is a concern. KILL Switch can be installed by dealer and warranty is not void while ford wont add kill switch and if we add it elsewhere the warranty is void.

@Eddie-Dune-Glider @Luke K P can you comment on this.

@Noufal I always switch to 'drive-mode = 'BAJA'' and just keep it in D always.

update: once in baja mode you need to press and hold for at least 15 seconds the traction control button to fully disable all electronics related to traction AND stability control.

You Do Not need a kill switch once engaged like this.

ABS is disabled, and curtain airbags etc are disabled. the baja mode holds the gear you are in, and ensures that turbos are spooled up and ready to just GO as soon as you touch the pedal.

just point the direction you want to go, and hit the accelerator.

Interesting topic @Noufal. it is a can of worms you are opening since Wrangler owners will have a hard time accepting that there is a new King of the Dune in the desert :). That being said, my only feedback to you is that while i agree that Wranglers have more "Off-the-Shelf" customization options available in the market, nothing stops you from customizing an RR. You can simply conceptualize, design and execute as you wish in Dubai. You are only limited by your imagination. Happy to show you a customized RR next time we meet and maybe that would help you see the Art of the Possible for the RR.

One question for you, any specific reason why are you are lost between the two, personally from a performance point of view, i do not see a basis for comparison as they are 2 completely different vehicles with different points of strength. i think it all comes down to what do you do more: driving on dunes or rock crawling. I could be over simplifying it and ill wait for others to comment but i think that is what it comes down to.
