2010 Nissan Tiida review

The Tiida is Nissan’s compact car for those looking for a value-for-money, simple and reliable runabout. It sits just above the Sunny in the Nissan pecking order.

Available in both sedan and hatchback forms, it doesn’t offer much in the way of excitement, but is big on practicality. It’s far from cutting edge, being a car that’s now six years old, but it remains popular in the region and indeed across the world – the five door hatchback Tiida is Nissan’s best selling car, globally.

The Tiida was given a facelift in 2009, with revised headlights and a new grille. Care has been taken to ensure that despite the compact dimensions, there’s plenty of legroom and a high roof for rear seat passengers. The large glove box can apparently accommodate a handbag, and there’s an auxiliary input socket on the stereo for an MP3 player.

Both hatch and sedan are available in two trim levels and with a choice of two engines. A 1.6-litre motor provides 109bhp, while a 1.8-litre unit pushes out 127bhp. All models are available with a four-speed automatic gearbox, or a five speed manual in the 1.6 and a six speed ‘box in the 1.8.

The entry level S trim comes with steel wheels, while the SE comes with 15-inch alloy wheels. The sedan is slightly long thanks to its extended boot, and as such can hold 467 litres-worth of luggage behind the rear seats (which also fold down) while the hatch can only manage 289 litres.
