gear box problem

hi, i have a cadillac BLS 2006 and recently i hav noticed while giving a reverse gear i get a funny click noise from the gear box. how can i confirm that it is a gear box fault and nothing else. and if it wud anybody tell me an aprox expense of the gear box.

It could be gear issue, or else check the universal joint on drive shaft it must be rubbing against the heat shield or it could be gear solenoid clicking noise.

Check these both before doubting gear (expensive part).
