imranpro
Hey everybody!! Just wanted to ask if anybody has ever had a problem with coolant leakage. My Cayman S has been in twice in the last month for a leak near the passenger side rear wheel. The first service repair included changing a clamp and hose with some pressure testing. The second repair has already taken a week as they are waiting for parts and it is still not complete. P.s I hate driving my daughter's Ford!! derekr
of course we have!! rest assured you ain't the first one. They just replaced the pump on my '07 cause the coolant was consistently low even after they had topped it up a couple of times.
montic
Howdy peeps. I am an advanced driving instructor. This past April I had the car dump ALL of its coolant fluid on the track and kill two hours of track time for everybody. The dealer did not seem surprised at all to find out that the clamp had come off. I was horrified to hear them talking about it as something very normal. They said that this happens due to the particular type of clamps used. For technical folks it's a spring-fit or basically a non-screw type. sindhu
Very strange. Mine had a coolant leak near the passenger rear tire too but in our case the dealership determined it was from the fill cap. They replaced the cap and I no longer have the problem. It was a small amount of coolant. I hope this helps.
ravis
@ derek now how alarming is that? seems like porsche is aware of the problem with these clamps and they are doing nothing about it like creating a TSB on the issue and/or coming up with a solution. sounds like a simple fix. just gotta replace the type of clamp used. aditya
Haha. Happened with my 05 once. My mechanic said the water pump seal was to blame which he replaced. Nothing with the clamps of hoses or anything of the sort.
bashi
Ravi - These giants don't think like us my friend. They go by the failure rate. It's obviously cheaper to buy the lesser clamps and replace the few that go bad than putting better clamps across the board. Get it?
JackC
In my scenario I remember hearing a little rattle in the engine once, but could not track it down. When they replaced the water pump and the belt, the rattle went away.
bigbrother
Familiar stories for me. My brother's Porsche had a mis-aligned internal seal from the factory which required a complete engine replacement as the coolant was leaking into the crankcase. Several dealers are of the view that by ramping up production Porsche's taken a hit in quality control. In our experience, the dealer service was excellent and they were committed to fixing the issue which made it easier for us.
