This could mean bad evaporator which needs replacement in most cases.

You might want to do this trick to take away the smell on the AC. Spray Lysol into the vent of AC. Drive your car with the vent open to air coming outside. Drive for about 1 hour. Close the vent to let the air circulate inside the car.
