How important is it to change brake pads when not used alot?

i have not changed the brake pads for almost a year now of my 2006 Jetta as i hardly use the car.

so i dont think it is important.

Am i thinking right or not?

Not changing the brake pads or not considering them important can be a potential hazard. However if you hardly use the car, its still better to get them checked if not changed. Its better to change them often than change them when its too late
